The Essential Edge: Official Knife Thread (1 Viewer)

I have loved this knife for over 15 years.
I used to work nightlife bars in Philadelphia, and this was always with me.
Only snapped it out once in a potential defensive situation. I was walking through a parking garage at 3:30 AM.
Two 'urban youth's came out of a corner and started asking if I could help them out (too aggressive for my liking).
They continued to follow me when I would not engage with them or stop walking towards my shitty car.
Once I was closer to my vehicle, I made a show of loudly snapping the blade out of the Spyderco Matriarch.
Only then did I make direct eye contact and said something goofy seemed appropriate at the time.
They played the whole situation off like they were joking and walked away.
Honestly, they probably saw my ghetto sled (car) and figured I only had $5 to my name.

funny how times change as you get older, get married, and have kids.
I used to care and carry this knife like a samurai nd his sword.
Now days the only action this baby sees are Amazon and Zappos boxes.

This thread is reminding me that it’s been too long since my last knife purchase. Use them more than I use my chips, I should sell chips and buy knives lol

Bought this for my dad last Christmas.
Spiderco dive knife. He had to use it to pry a stuck spear out of a coral head a month ago. Hopefully, we can get it repaired/replaced. He loves the knife and almost said F-it on the spear instead.

Does anyone use a multi-item holster for non-firearm EDC items? Reading this thread and I’m realizing that I carry a blade/pen/marker at all times throughout the day at work in my pocket. Sometimes find myself having to grab my flashlight from my car as well for tasks around the office or on job sites. Might make more sense to combine them all into a holster-type setup, if such a thing exists.

Anyone have a recommendation?

Dibs, depending on type of chips...

More a joke than reality...but sometimes when I look at the dollars stuck in chips I think about other things I could buy with that money. My problem is I love knives almost as much...could buy a ton of knives with chip money

Wear carhartt pants...it’s what I wear at work and they have a lot of pockets. Prolly not office wear I guess

5.11 has great pants too and some of them are perfect for an office environment.

Anybody own the Benchmade Bugout 535? I just purchased one on eBay, can’t wait for it to get here.

A small portion of my chip sales in the last week is going to knives, there’s 2-3 Spyderco knives that will go from the wish list to the mailbox tomorrow as well lol

Late to the party.
Haven't seen this post before.

Just finding this thread! Will have to update post with pics when I get home from work, but @Ben8257 bought me a sweet double sided zombie hatchet....it makes me smile Haha
I've got a large handful of generic pocket knives that I've collected over the years (most were won at the bottle game at carnivals) but the real knife guru of our household is definitely Ben lol .......

Deuce wrecked the edge on his cheap knife through general ass hattery. He tried to take out the nicks with a whetstone, but ended up with an uneven blade...

I let him use my Lansky system. He is a convert now. Pre-Lansky, he said it wouldn't cut fishing line... Afterward, he shredded paper and shaved his arm.

If you ever wanna get a upgraded system like that, check out the KME system. https://www.kmesharp.com/kmeknshsy.html

It's a more refined version of that, with a ton more options. I have one and it's worth every penny.
