The Official RPC Showcase thread (5 Viewers)

I’m sure friends of the two <unnamed> pre-IPO buyers from GPI got them at a deal.
Uh, I don't know if it was this thread, or another one. But both have been named. Unless that info has been scrubbed.

So I'm new but I think I get what's going on here with the "NAGB" stuff. Are people just upset because they weren't let in on it to get profit or because they feel left out? Forgive my ignorance. I could see how it would be "scummy" to do it in secret then sell directly to the community for profit.. don't get me wrong.

Regardless of whether or not you like the chips, it's another option for people to buy and use or relabel them as a new custom set.

I think some of them look very cool, but not being in on a buy for profit doesn't bother me (obviously I wouldn't be included but that's besides the fact).

If you don't want them don't buy them, if you do, then it's a cool venture for the person that can afford to buy them. I find it all kind of interesting, regardless. Enjoy your chips fellas.

I could be wrong but I think the debates usually stem from the dynamics, not so much the execution of said NAGB’s. I also applaud those who get in the orders, just not when it results in an arena of Syndicate A vs Syndicate B. It’s ugly and uncalled for.

That's like saying MLMs are right.

Yes, they are legal, but boy are they not right.

In the end, someone has to pay, and it ends up being the forum.

I've said it a million times. If I could Thanos every NAGB chip, I would and never care again. It's fine they are here. I actually really enjoy the people who grab a set and enjoy them. I think more people use them as a savings account and trade fodder. They are all fine chips, but what it does each time it happens is not worth the price IMO. And each time it raises a marker. Yeah, sweet. My leaded set us worth more. Woo. I'd rather everyone come here, love the hobby, grow, adventure then come here and spend a grand on clay discs.

Yeah, I'm an "idealist". My 20 year old self would beat my ass.
Not going to lie: doing this on one of your posts felt cathartic...

People previously got upset because all the chips were done in secret and then a select few got them. In addition to that memebers would sell them at a massive profit and clean house in profit. It’s a weird argument because everyone says how great Jim is, but he makes huge markups as well. The difference in my opinion is Jim sells chips at a price that allows everyone access in a public sale. The people who initiated the NAGB GB sales did neither of those things. They sold the chips at a very high price, built out lineups that would maximize price (my opinion on this one), and finally finished off by lining up the buyers willing to pay extremely high prices. To put it in perspective Jim’s HSI purchase was north of 1 million chips. I’d be surprised if this buy was 100k chips. They’re both prolly making the same ammount of money.

Come on!! ...you know we can't have nice things
I do think that is part of the frustration, only certain people can enjoy nice things. The rest get it paraded in front of them.

Personally, I don't care about these chips, but I can understand some people's frustration or anger. I'll go back to watching my shitty hockey team get murdered. Enjoy the thread people's. Lots of feathers in here now.

I usually like to keep it concise. This is likely my longest post.
Great chips, love the inlay. Someone posted a “jumping the shark” gif and I wonder if this is that moment for the NAGBs. The more NAGB that happen, the less desirable and rare the other NAGB “fantasy” chips become. At some point the market becomes saturated. I personally love casino used and “mint” secondary chips. I love their authenticity and history ( and price).
Anyway, I know we all have multiple sets and poker seems to be having a bit of a surge again but how many people on earth really want to spend $5-10k+ on poker chips?
One last thought. If the money being thrown around here could somehow be invested into CPC or a new company, we could have a fantasy chip making machine because new colors, molds, and formulas could certainly be developed with this type of money being used for “good”.

Keeping the total supply unknown is a nice move on the part of the organizers. It discourages people from buying them for speculative purposes, meaning more people are more likely to only buy them because they themselves want to own them, which in turn both lowers the market price and increases the market supply.

If the experience that David Spragg has been through and shared with us in great detail has taught us anything, it's that the kind of money being thrown around here is not enough to fund new colors, new molds, and new formulas - at least, not through CPC.

The prices we've seen here are outliers - there's maybe a dozen people willing and able to pay them. For this kind of price level to sustainably fund new development at CPC, then everyone who orders chips from CPC has to be willing and able to pay them. I suspect demand is nowhere near enough for that to happen.

I think the original post is deleted, so I'm gonna have to reply here and say I'm not sure If you are joking but if you aren't in my most fake Aussie accent possible, @horseshoez wtf c*nt lol.View attachment 830160

I’ve come to like you Mike. A lot. Took me a while to understand you Aussie’s and decipher your humor but once I did, I’ve really come to like it!
