The Walking Dead (1 Viewer)

This show has somehow surpassed its own retardedness. But evidently I have surpassed my own retardedness because I'm still watching.
I've surpassed your retardedness because I love it :)

Nothing solves life's problems like the application of some high explosives. Opening scene reminded me of Indiana Jones and the guy with the sword . . . got the drop on us, and out number us, too? Say hello to my little friend!!!

I'm kind of bored with the show so that probably is part of my reasoning for not being impressed with it. Big whoopee. Three fairly new people perish. Big deal. Kill off some established characters. Colleen "looks like Glen is going down". Nope hun, he will be saved at the last minute.

Their surrounded by hundreds, if not thousands of zombies. Not a single one of them gets bit. If my wife didn't love this damn show I'd be done with it. Since she watches all my stupid shit I can't say much about it.

I lol'd so hard when that little kid went down. Shit was hilarious. Or when it was bright and sunny and then a minute later it's moonlight! TWD is the best comedy on TV!

We were also stunned by the sudden onset of night. I felt like we missed something. It was explained on Talking Dead afterwards (not why it suddenly became night, but why it was shot in day/night).

I audibly cheered when Sam bought it. I know TWD is no place for science, but I strongly feel that anyone without a strong survival instinct/gene would have started the zombie shuffle a looong time ago.

Glen has dodged so many bullets, that when it finally gets offed, it's going to be a true shock.

Only "unkillable" characters currently:

  • Rick - Centerpiece of the show.
  • Daryll - Supa-hunk. Gotta keep the ladies interested.
  • Carol - Good v Evil storyline too good to kill off...yet
  • Maggie - Eye candy for the rest of us.
Glen, as the only Asian character gets a little more life. Also, negative fan reaction was huge following the dumpster scene. I don't list him as unkillable, but his death must be heroic.

Wish it was an animated gif, but it'll do

And dammit Carl, die already!

Also loved how they only put the zombie guts on their little poncho's but made sure to keep their faces and hair clean of the stuff.

The kid never had to deal with zombies before now so yeah, one and done

If they link his death in the series with his death in the comic it will be outstanding. Certainly not heroic, but outstanding none-the-less :)

I've honestly wondered sometimes if some of the stupidity on the show isn't designed to also fuel the Talking Dead show afterwards. It all seems to contrived and silly at this point (the show itself is lol, but then the after show to talk about what we saw on the show makes me like the actual show less....like they're taking this way too seriously).

I've only watched the Talking Dead a couple of times. Not a fan of it.

Yeah I have to agree with this. I could handle the show as camp and fun, but it is mind boggling to hear people talk about how it "resonates" with them and shows some honest depiction of anything. I remember the first time I heard a band who were self-described "emo" and I was like, "Are these guys serious?" I feel the same about TWD. The actual show is fine, but the evident seriousness everyone attached to it is totally insane.

OMG totally did not expect them to lose that trailer full of supplies and watch it go to waste. What a complete shocker!

Since I dont read the comic books, I never know when this show is going to end. My hope is soon, I am find myself openly rooting in my head for main characters to die, which is a fun little game i play with myself.

America seems to enjoy watching this show though, as it continues to get high viewership, week in and week out

The only character I actually like is Carol, the rest of them can bite it, or, errr.....get bit!

It would make more sense for you guys to stop watching and pump it out binge-style once the show ends, yeah? Why subject yourselves to something you dislike every week?

You guys remind me of the people who were always ranting about online poker being rigged yet continued playing every day.

because at one time the show was really really good, I always hope and pray something will return to its former glory.

and part of the enjoyment in the show is to hate watch and complain about it afterwards. its like therapy for me to post in this thread

I'm adding talking about loving TWD and how it's progressively gotten better over the years to betting eight quarters instead of two singles to my list of ways to tilt you if we ever play together ;)

This past week's episode was definitely my favorite of the season (including the first half of the season obv).

There was actually time to hang out with the characters without their having to address some giant problem or issue. I've seen so many people praise the show for its characters, but it always seemed to me that one got very little chance to see the characters just being themselves since there was always some catastrophe to address that sucked the air out of the interactions. I'll take a lot more of this type of episode where we can hang out a bit with these people.

You're likely to get two more shows like that, I noticed that it seems to be the formula for TWD. An episode with loads of zombies/special effects followed by 3 episodes of walking and talking. It's like the blow the budget and then take a bit to recoup...

The only way that'll happen is if they rehire Frank Darabont as the show runner again, but we know that ain't happening.

I agree that the show is running a bit thin, but then who would watch a show about rebuilding a society if there weren't constant obstacles getting in the way. But to watch every week so you can complain about it? Leave it to these two guys...

Agreed.

What's funny is that I was talking to my stepdaughter this morning. She's 17 and so would think not likely a prime candidate for someone to take the dissenting view on a show like this, but completely without my prompting (but in response to my remark that the last episode was better because it took more time with the characters), she said, "Yeah, the first season was the best one. The characters were just more interesting and more fun to watch."

Don't get me wrong - she loves the show. It's not at all a hate-watch for her. But I was glad that she recognized that there is some value in letting the characters breathe and interact around events that do not include giant explosions and huge "reveals".
