Actually insane! :D Any Daytonas in the mix? Really want a nice 16520 but they're pretty expensive now.

for how much I love Daytona’s I agree they’re too expensive now. I have the white 116500

the 5167 is an amazing daily watch - I love mine on rubber strap , incredibly comfortable. Been trying to get myself on a list for a 5712 for ages but with Pateks decision to discontinue the 5711 it looks like it won’t happen :(

I hear the new thing is to collect unworn Swatches from the 80s/90s now (Grand Prix, White horse etc)

I originally got the 5167 on rubber and truthfully it’s really best on rubber. I was oddly attracted to the bracelet and bought the bracelet also for an outrageous price from Patek. I do find the bracelet adds some extra weight which makes the watch feel a little more robust on the wrist. But you can’t beat the rubber strap for a great causal wear.

What a great day today was. England beat the Danes.

I went to the store to get a strap sorted and they snuck my op out and surprised me.

She then brought this out and said that she's going to seek approval to have it allocated to me if I want it. Yes please. Though that's all my chip and poker money gone lol.

My Explorer 16570. I've worn this thing everywhere land and water. It's made its way to my daily and I barely wear my Sinn 556 but can't bring myself to sell it because of how nice it is.
The 16570 is such a cool watch and the size is in the sweet spot that I like.

I just wish the prices hadn't risen so high. I tried one on recently and it was very very worn, price was $12k AUD lol. They definitely don't quite have that same solid feeling as the modern models, but I'd really love to have one that's close to being new.

Yea I got lucky and bought mine on the way up. If the modern went back to its size with a red gmt it would probably be my favorite watch. The white dial is just so clean and distinguishes itself from other Rolex’s. It’s also a lot more low key so I feel more comfortable wearing it in situations I wouldn’t want people knowing I have a nicer watch on.
I will say checkout @zimmermanwatchrepair

he did this watch and after the results I would feel very comfortable buying a more best watch. These newer watchmakers and amazing with what they can do for restoring a Rolex finish

Been away from chipping for a variety of reasons (namely getting scammed, poverty, and work/law school assignments), but I saw this on my weekly check in so figured I’d post my latest acquisitions. (Though I’m young, I prefer older dress watches to sporty watches ten times out of ten).

1) c. 1940s Doxa, all original everything. It could probably use a service, but any problems I’ve had I’ve been able to fix myself. This was originally a very dear family friend’s watch from the old country, and when he died it passed down to my parents. I recently got it from them since I got into law school.

2) Late 1930s German Army-style Doxa
Got this for a steal—relatively clean movement and 14k (unfortunately polishes) Spillman case. I say “German Army-style” because while the dial and movement are certainly appropriate, the case is in 14k rose gold and isn’t marked with a DH serial. I haven’t been able to find other confirmed DH watches in 14k—so either my watch was made privately for some rich conscripted office worker, or it was re-cased at some point (I’ve read that Nazis did that at times to try to shed the image).

Either way, @gopherblue knows my stance on this type of thing—as a proud first generation Jewish-American born to the children of Holocaust survivors, I feel it is a form of poetic revenge for me to wear a dead Nazi’s gold watch. If he had his way, I wouldn’t be around at all, let alone wearing the MFer’s gold in America.

P.S.—I’m a big fan of old Doxas because I’ve been told that it was the watch of middle/upper-middle class Jews in the Old Country. As my grandfather and mother put it, “the comfortable Jews in Varad wore gold Doxas and the rich Jews in Varad wore gold Schaffhausens.”

I really like these!

My Aquanaut has been my daily for over 3 years. If I was to never own another watch, I’d be okay with that. it’s understated and comfortable, I absolutely love it.
My everyday watch . Simple but elegant .
Worn on my wrist for the last 30 years .

Haven’t swapped out my daily for a while, just been wearing the same watch for months; the pandemic made the whole idea of wearing different watches seem trivial; but had to send the watch in for service, so pulled out another today.

Love Panerei watches - I unfortunately always find them to be far too big for my wrist. They do have a few 40mm options, but haven't an opportunity to try one on.

Too big for me too. My collection ranges from 34-42 , with 36-40 being the sweet spot for me.

I like a watch to sit in my wrist rather than on it. My speedy feels a bit cumbersome since i got my Yachtmaster. It's only 42 compared to 40 for the YM, but the difference feels huge on these two.

So when are you having a custom cabinet made for a giant watch collection. I've seen some great ones built into drawers.

I have one Panerai. I love it. It wears big but that’s the point with a Panerai. I like the 44mm luminor case

I find I don't wear this much during the week, it's a bit too polished for work and I don't want to scratch it to bits, and I bought it for best really anyway.

But I couldn't help pulling it out of the safe this morning to ogle at it.

It's making me really want another Rolex though. It's just so accurate and nice to wear. The bracelet has such a silky feel to it. Not sure if I've been infected by the Rolex hype but the 904 steel really does feel better than 316. So I've asked my AD for an explorer 1 lol.

I say go for it lol! But I’m a really bad example. I had the chance to get this today and I couldn’t say no!

Anyone have advice on a quality watch that can really stand up to vibration/hard knocks?

I do a lot of outdoor work, including chainsawing, and have basically stopped wearing a watch because they get wrecked. (My dad ruined a Rolex in this same fashion back in the late ’70s.)
