Challenge rejected. Those are definitely hamburgers. Spam fritters retain the shape of the tin.

In primary school that’s exactly what shape they were.
But…. As I have no other evidence.

And…. There’s a bottle of IronBru putting the location of the offending food much further North than I’d dare travel ( Watford).
A jury would definitely side with you on this.

So based on this, I withdraw my claim. Without prejudice.

Curious, what’s the most spam fritters you’ve eaten in one sitting? I see these as a love them or hate them thing.

I’m not a fan. So I’d say one spam fritter would have been my max.

Therefore, your initial claim was just a... Spam post.

Now here’s a rant.

On Thursday I offered 2 people a job. I’m paying them over 15% more than they currently earn.

Both accepted my offer. I then told the other 4 candidates that they were unsuccessful.

Now on Tuesday both have come back to tell me that their current employers (they work for different companies in different parts of the country) has matched my offer and they have decided to stay where they are.

Surely if your current employer is not paying you what you’re worth then you should move on. Not have to hand in your notice before they react and match salaries.

This has happened to me in the past when I was an employee and each time I left and went to the new employer who thought enough of me to make the higher salary offer.

WTF is wrong with people?!?!

Sounds like things aren't so different on your side of the pond. Companies, especially in my industry (healthcare) are so hell bent on filling open vacancies and offering signing bonuses that they're not offering the employees that have been with them for years any retention bonuses.

But, when they leave and they're told by the leaving employee that they're leaving because they are getting paid more, employers be like:

Pay. People. What. They're. Worth.

It's not too smart to accept a counter offer. I've read articles about it like these:

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/07/resignation-tips-why-you-should-never-accept-that-counteroffer.html

https://www.apollotechnical.com/reasons-to-not-accept-a-counteroffer/

Around 50% of people who accept counteroffers leave for a new job within 12 months. Just because the offer may seem like a good option, it won’t guarantee job satisfaction down the line.

That’s what I think. So next time you want a raise you need to go get another job offer??? That’s no way to run a company.

Not fair on the 4 people who were told they weren’t successful. They missed out because the other two accepted an offer.

Pay. People. What. They're. Worth
Exactly this. I give my staff raises without them asking for a raise if I think they’re worth it. I always have it in my mind that if they were to leave how much would I pay to keep them.

Guess what. Not one person I’ve wanted to keep has ever left. It’s not rocket science.

I made this mistake twice... with the same company. Twice I put in my notice that I was leaving, and twice they came back with big raises to keep me.

I ended up leaving 4 months after the 2nd big raise, happier and with more money at the new place.

Can you send me an application? I can stand SAP modules up from scratch. I’ve done FI/CO, PPM, SD, QC, and PS

I think there are a lot of factors. It can be very different with different companies (take private vs public for instance). Someone might deserve a raise, but Finance or HR could be a roadblock. I worked for a large not for profit company and sometimes they would lock down raises and only new hires got to negotiate pay. The only way to get a deserved raise was to leave and then come back. Some did exactly that.

That company also did market comparisons and would give raises. I got a big raise one time without asking. I was excited at first, then realized how long I had been underpaid. :(

Bad form, and not a smart long-term move as others in the thread have already pointed out.

Years ago, I was in a role that was great for my resume, but I was being significantly underpaid for my position and experience level. A few key personnel left the company for a competitor that was scooping up talent, and management went into panic mode. I received a salary increase that I didn't ask for.

But it was too late. I'd already interviewed with that same competitor, and they made me an offer that was a great fit and paid even more than my newly-increased salary. I accepted the offer and gave my notice.

My employer countered with a salary match and an offer to "find me whatever role I wanted." It was tempting, but I politely declined. Salary wasn't the only reason I was leaving, and once I gave my notice, the decision was final.

I never surf PCF on the work laptop...
Same here. I have two company-owned laptops, and I don't even like using my Gmail account on them unless I absolutely have to. Everything personal happens on my personal phone.

Even for developers, my industry is moving toward full lockdown of everything (and is about 95% of the way there).

Same - The company I work for is probably on the extreme end of the spectrum of being incredibly strict and locked down.

I could probably piss on my bosses desk, claim I had a stress induced momentary lapse of reason, and end up getting additional mental health days out of the deal.

Attempt to open PCF on my work laptop, the info-sec swat team would be escorting my ass out the door - lol.
