Things That Are Bullsh*t (10 Viewers)

Dammit Zscaler! Now I need to buy a laptop just for PCF. Or maybe I get an iPad with one of those fancy keyboards… hmmmmm

Now here’s a rant.

On Thursday I offered 2 people a job. I’m paying them over 15% more than they currently earn.

Both accepted my offer. I then told the other 4 candidates that they were unsuccessful.

Now on Tuesday both have come back to tell me that their current employers (they work for different companies in different parts of the country) has matched my offer and they have decided to stay where they are.

Surely if your current employer is not paying you what you’re worth then you should move on. Not have to hand in your notice before they react and match salaries.

This has happened to me in the past when I was an employee and each time I left and went to the new employer who thought enough of me to make the higher salary offer.

WTF is wrong with people?!?!
My past employer refused to give me a raise in pay, back in 2012. I was in my 4th year and worked hard.

I scored a raise each year until this 4th year, at which point I was told, “we have no money this year”. I actually laughed at my manager and then basically said I’m looking for a job the second this meeting is over. He also laughed back at me.

Then, within a week, I found a higher paying job (which I’ve been at for over 10years now) , at which point I gave a 2 week working notice. The manager was stunned. Thought I was kidding at first, which made me pretty angry, and it was over after that.

They tried to offer me money, more benefits, and even tried to convince me that higher paying jobs are easy to find, but a good employer isn’t easy. I laughed at this. Really laughed.

Best decision I took was to walk away from a situation where I’m not even slightly appreciated.

Yeah exactly this. I’ve calmed down now. Got one person starting next month and I’m advertising for another one. Let’s hope both start.

Dude, 100%. We work in deep ocean acoustics and were really sad when they started acting like "hearing it" was such a great lifeline. News was unprofessional and gave way too much hope, what else is new.
Well, we all know the media’s angle. Keep ‘em on the line. If they just said some people got squished, it’s a two second story. Instead they were able to drag it on for days and days and days. Well played media. Side note. Hundreds of desperate migrants drowned in the Mediterranean, and crickets……

Hundreds of desperate migrants drowned.
5 Billionaires drowned.
One story told.

If desperate migrants owned the media outlets, the story told might be different.
I get that but I also think that a big part of the story is the morbid fascination that surrounds Titanic. I mean Belfast (where the ship was built) has a fucking museum dedicated to it. A ship that they built. Poorly. And sunk. On its first trip. And they’re proud of it. Idiots  :ROFLMAO:

To be fair, not that any media deserves it, the Greece tragedy story is being covered. There’s plenty of info all over about it. Maybe it’s not “headlines news” but it’s not being ignored either.
I agree with your sentiment though.
I also question regularly the premise that anything on news media is “news”. It’s information, sure, but most of the time it’s just stories to scare me about something, it’s not actually information that I need or can use in my everyday life. But I guess I did learn this week not to go see the titanic, and also not to take cruises in boats like this.

Mentioned occasionally, not covered. The 5 (ex-)billionaires have been on basically 0-24 since Sunday.

4 rich guys (3 rich guys and 1 rich guys son) + the owner of the company.

And they're dead. Catastrophic failure, crushed by the pressure. The rescuers (and the family) were notified, but the decision was made to continue searching until they confirmed it... Which they have.

But what about Covid? It’s still out there killing people. I think.
Haven’t heard a peep from our media about this deadly world threatening disease that kinda nobody talks about anymore.
Kills more people everyday than either of these tragedy’s combined. Harder to see now that they have removed the death trackers that were once so vital, guess they served their purpose.

Massive Craigslist Score alert!

I had been searching Craiglist for ammo cans. Struck out at the first two ads...they were already taken. But the third ad, I rolled up to this guy's house and he had a bunch of shit on his front lawn, like he was putting it out on the curb for trash pickup. I knocked on the door, he was snoozing on his couch and I woke him up. I felt bad, but I asked if he was throwing everything out and he said yes. I asked if I could take it and he said yes.

Scored about a dozen ammo boxes of varying sizes, used but still usable. I got two rolling tool chests, and :drumroll: 2000+ mint THC Paulsons! I was excited and wanted to get them home, so I didn't inspect them, but they appeared to be a tournament set. There were racks too... Lots of 100-chip racks (some glued together, so I might have to trash those) and two large dealer trays. He had some single chips mixed in, maybe used as card covers. He had two shitty poker tables in his garage that he wasn't giving away. I even scored two older, wood stock rifles with bayonets. Luckily, I had my wife 's van, and I loaded it all up and brought it home!

Sometime before I got home, my son's alarm went off and I realized it was just a dream. :(

International postage. Paypal currency conversion plus their extra fees. I want the old days when pokerstars transfers paid for this hobby, but they banned that for us aussies too.

What was the point of this?

Do NOT let paypal do your conversions for you. Switch to conversion through your credit card, or better yet, look into Revolut
Yeah, that's true in a lot of situations. When I'm abroad and pay by card the card thingy sometimes asks if I want to pay in Swedish currency, and shows what the amount would be (like 110 SEK vs $10). I always choose the local currency, and when checking my balance it has always been cheaper. Every single time.

I'm in Bulgaria right now. Even the ATM "kindly" asked if it could do the conversion for me. The withdrawal would have cost me about 8% (!) more had I accepted.

I guess people accept because it feels safe to know what the actual charge will be, not knowing that it's always at a loss.

The tilt of watching a podcast late, listening to an entire segment droning on and on about how much more awesome chatGPT payout structure is that WSOP, while no one notices the obvious that the chat GPT structure payed out an extra $5 million because it’s a predictive language model and not a poker tool.

Still... from a player's perspective, it is better.
