Time for a cocktail! (4 Viewers)

The chance of salmonella is actually quite low - but not zero. Most of the time, the salmonella is on the outside of the eggshell, and unlikely to get into your drink if you crack the egg correctly (crack the egg in a flat surface, not on the edge of a bowl or cup which pushes shell fragments into the egg). If you are concerned (and do not want to wait) you can also look for pasteurized eggs.

We’ve all heard of the Moscow and Kentucky Mule…I give you the Canadian Moose lol

3 oz Alberta Premium Canadian rye
1 oz fresh lime juice
6 oz ginger beer
Lime slice garnish

Super refreshing and the flavors work so well together!

My neighbor works for a distributor and brought over the Bulleit cocktail mixes to sample. Both the Old Fashioned and Manhattan were just fine. Better than most bar cocktails. But I make them better at home. Probably not worth the money to buy the premixes unless you want the convenience to take them somewhere.

barsupplies.com has a ton of options and are very reasonable with price.
OK, this place is crazy! I didn't realize what all I needed until I started browsing this website. Also I had some barware items picked out on Amazon that I was going to put on my Christmas list, but most of them are less than half the price here, so I'll just pick them up now rather than waiting. Oh well, the kids will have to find something else to give me. Like WHISKY!!!

So, what will I probably forget about until after I place my order???

Looks good. I personally like the standard jiggers, mainly a 1oz/2oz and 3/4oz/1.5oz. In terms of the rocks glasses, I just went with the standard, though my go to glass for myself is a Peg Leg Porker Bourbon 10 oz glass from the Nashville bbq joint.

Depending on future martini glass uses, I chose to buy the 8oz stemless martini glasses over the coupe glasses or martini glasses. Depending on your storage space, the glasses with stems are a total pain in the ass to store.

Since you will be paying for shipping (Shipping can be a little pricey on bar supply), I chose to get a half dozen of each style glass, and in some cases, a whole lot more, though when I have parties, I don't use disposable plastic cups. I picked up both the 10 and 14oz rocks glasses, along with 16oz mixing/pub glasses. Also got 10oz highball glasses (I literally have used them once or twice, total waste in my opinion), along with stemless martini glasses and a boatload of shot glasses.

I also picked up a dozen 4oz Texan shooter glasses (These are so much easier to taste different liquors without using a Glencairn glasses (Glencairn glasses are a total pain in the ass to wash and dry).

My Glencairn glasses and mixing glasses were from Amazon (I didn't like the style of the mixing glasses from Bar Supply.

Between glasses, bar mats, shakers, and miscellaneous stuff (straws, cocktail picks, jiggers, bar spoons), I probably maybe spent $300. I ended up investing later is a couple nice shakers from Elevated Craft, and some nice jiggers from Cocktail Kingdom (Leopold style is my favorite).

It's a dangerous rabbit hole to go down. I don't even drink that much, but I always wanted a professional stocked bar when having people over.

You can really go crazy on the barware, and really not spend a crazy amount of money. Unless, of course, you are buying crystal, or something like that.

Thanks. It was fun looking through all the various stuff. I really wanted the coupe glasses, but yeah, I know they'll be a PITA. I didn't see those stemless martini glasses until just after I placed the order. Oh well, I put them on the wish list along with a few other things I didn't absolutely need right away.

I was pretty impressed with the prices. Way better than Amazon on a lot of things. I have shaker that "works" but I do want a boston shaker set, and I didn't really see anything I loved on bar supplies, so I think I'll stick with the Pina brand one I have picked out on Amazon. Someone will probably get it for me for Christmas. I have some neat shooter glasses for smaller tastings that I got on Amazon last month. I posted picks over on the whisk(e)y thread after I bought them. I think they are about 3 ounces and I got a dozen of them. I have some unique 7 oz glasses that I use in place of Glencairns, but I'll probably get some of them too eventually. I kept this first order to just a bit over $100, but I know it won't be my last from them.

I would steer away from the wood/bamboo disposable coattail picks and pick up some nice metal ones instead. The bamboo tends to grip the garnich more, making it a little tougher to pull the garnish off with your teeth. Also, metal ones look nicer.

I also recommend buying more glasses than you think you'll need. That way when (not if, when) one breaks you will have a replacement in storage that matches perfectly. You can also bring out the nicer glasses when you have a party - and if one breaks, it's not an issue (except for the glass/cut foot concerns).

Here you see one of our poker spreads, with the Waterford crystal at the end of the counter (the bar is under the counter).

Some people at the Ohio meetup asked for the ingredients for a paloma cocktail. It’s a great refreshing alternative to the margarita.

- Add 3 oz tequilia to a tall highball glass (or a pint glass, let’s go big)
- Add 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
- Fill up the rest of the glass with Squirt (grapefruit soda)
- Add ice and stir
- Top it off with a swirl of Cointreau or Triple Sec
- Garnish with lime peel (if feeling fancy or not making 12 at a time at a meetup, lol)

Delicious.

You can go bigger on the Tequilla if you want. We tried it with Casamigos reposado, and another brand with blanco, anejo, and reposado. All were very good - just want a good tequila is all you need.

Thanks @Leonard for the recipe at RIA I.

Yeah, the bamboo picks were just a toss in because they were a buck fiddy. I have some nice SS ones picked out for my Christmas list. Like I was saying, I needed to save a few things for the kids to buy me.

I got 12 rocks glasses and 8 coupes. I want to see and try them out before I buy more. And yeah, I really want nicer crystal ones, but these are just to get started because in the last week my wife broke my favorite one that I'd been using for years, and we didn't really have anything in HER cupboard that was good for drinks. We're looking for a new place to move to within a year, and I don't need a lot of extra stuff to move. I'll get my bar better stocked up once we are situated in (hopefully) our forever home.

My fav is a Bloody Ceasar
Run a lemon or lime wedge on the Rim of a the tall glass, then dip the rim in celery salt
Add ice to half a glass
1.5 ounce of Grey Goose Vodka or any decent vodka
Top up with 4 ounce of spicy Clamato Juice or add a few drops of Worcestershire and tabasco sauces to regular Clamato juice.
Add a celery stick for stirring and a snack :)

Our Canadian friend would add a spicy pickled asparagus. It's a good add, if you wanted to try that.

Made my first Boulevardier tonight... Not sure yet. Man that Campari is bitter, I may need to back it down a touch. Or just go back to Manhattans.

Happy to report I picked up a bottle of MWND. Thank you to my local place. The owner is the nicest guy and doesn't charge ridiculous secondary. Support your local place and they will support you.

Trying to find some low ABV cocktails for a couple of players (and my liver). Going to try a Bamboo and Adonis tonight.

Made my wife a Paloma tonight. She wanted a smokey Paloma, but I didn't have any Mezcal. Decided to try it with Sotol. Pretty good!

I've been fiddling with my Old Fashioned recipe. My son's recipe was shaken, but I see a lot of stirred recipes online. Which do you guys do?

Here's what I made tonight:

1/2 oz simple syrup
3 dashes Angostura Bitters
A couple of ice cubes
Stir 15 seconds
Add more ice as desired
2 ounces Rye (or Bourbon)
Squeeze some juice from a half slice of orange
Stir another 15-20 seconds
1/2 teaspoon cherry juice
garnish with the half orange and a cherry

Best one I've ever made.

Sorry, drank half before I thought to take a pic...

The rule of thumb I have always heard and followed was you stir if the drink is primarily liquor (eg. Manhattan, martini) and shake if there are juices (daiquiri, margarita, etc.).

I'm a bit late in the season, but I'm having my first eggnog today.

I'm trying Greg's (How To Drink) recipe:

2 oz bourbon (WT101 for me)
1 oz cognac
0.5 oz Luxardo
0.25 oz rich simple syrup
1 egg

Dry shake, add ice and shake again, serve up and add milk/cream to taste (I added 2 oz heavy cream).

It's good and I'm enjoying it, but I think I like my amaretto variant better.
