Time for a cocktail! (3 Viewers)

Mrs S and I had dinner at a newish local bar/restaurant for the first time a couple weeks ago.

She had a cocktail called a Citronaut and adored it. The menu listed "Crop Cucumber, White Cranberry, Lemon, Lime, Simple Syrup" as the ingredients. So I tried to reproduce it at home.

First, I made some really tasty cucumber-infused vodka: peel and de-seed one English cucumber, cut into half-slices, and soak in 750mL vodka for about two days.

Mrs. S says this pretty much nails what she had in the restaurant:

1/2 oz fresh lime juice
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
2 oz cucumber vodka (adjust to taste, Mrs S likes a weaker drink and prefers 1oz)
2 oz pink cranberry juice
1 barspoon rich simple syrup
Shake over ice about 20 seconds, then serve on the rocks.

Thanks! I can see my wife really liking this.

How was that Paper Fighter Jet? Looks like a simple riff on a Paper Plane but I’m a sucker for Cynar. Rye instead of bourbon is a nice way to balance out the bitterness of that amaro, in theory.
I really liked it. Delicious.

I'm in the mood for a mint julep with this fantastic mint.

But, it's 60 degrees here and the sky looks like this.

Another Old Fashioned it is.

CHEATER ALERT

Or hoard alert? Costco sale - must buy 2 packs. Bought just for kicks and for party drinks.

So far the jalapeno margarita tastes...weird. which is strange since I have Trea Generaciones tequila in house and it's great.

Regular margarita has a similar but less weird taste. I'm not sure if their lime flavoring is causing the issue. Super earthy, earthy to an odd extent.

Daiquiri is run of the mill. Rum, citrus, sweet.

Cosmopolitan is normal. Hard to screw up a Cosmo.

Can't have a bad time drinking and working by the pool on a Wednesday.

A new favorite, recreated by me after I had one at a local bar:

Cucumber Gimlet

2 oz gin (Hendrick's is preferred as it is made with cucumber)
1oz fresh lime juice
½ - ¾ oz simple syrup
a few cucumber slices

Muddle cucumber with simple syrup in a cocktail shaker.
Add lime juice and gin.
Shake and strain:
over ice in a On-the-rocks glass
straight up in a Nick-and-Nora glass
Garnish with cucumber if desired.
(Can add mint, rosemary, or basil before muddling, if desired)

Just a straight ahead lime Margarita. I do use Anejo though (only way anymore). Happy Fourthing y'all!
