Is the dealer button necessary in self dealt games?

that's just stupid
lol lots of stupid in our traditions.

Why do we deal a card to our left, then continue in order until everyone has two cards?

Wouldn’t it be more random to deal them randomly to people until everyone has two cards? Is there any poker rule in any book that says you have to deal in order?

I mean we all know who the dealer is, and we all randomly get two cards, who needs any kind of order?

Maybe minimise cheating, or accusations of cheating. If cards marked could choose who to deal them to.

Ok now I’m intrigued… do you put the burn cards under the DB?

Curious as well.

In my self-dealt game, I always put the burn cards, in order, directly to the left of the flop. My other players put them wherever the hell they feel like (and it drives me crazy).

I always do, so one can see that I burned properly. I keep the muck separate from the burns. nobody questions if you burn correctly if you do it that way, and can see them properly
I definitely understand keeping the burn separate. But does that mean if the button is on one of the ends, you’re putting the burn way over there and then dealing the flop in the middle?

we’ve sort of evolved to using the dealer button during tournaments but not for the cash game. Probably because it’s a smaller group and usually the more seasoned players are the ones who stay for the cash game afterwards.

In a self-dealt game where dealer is on the end .. yes.

If you have a dealer, no.

The absolute worst is when they burn cards straight into the muck. I slide the burned cards under a chip or two in the pot.
Totally agree. It's one of those "all cost and no value" practices. You might never need to know which cards are the burns and which are the muck, but if you ever do, you'll be happy you kept them separate!

I like dealer buttons, I don't always remember who dealing, especially after a few pops. The problem is my players who tend slide it all the way back to the rail in front of them like idiots. Then they forget to pass it. It's a constant struggle. Still, I'm pro button usage.

This is my kind of guy
