Upcoming molds......... (19 Viewers)

@Himewad will let just about anyone get ahold of his nuts won’t he?

Ha! Yeah, I guess...
I've been a fan for a while. Such a great design.
I asked if I could get his card mold chips a few years ago and then got a table topper when he did a group buy.
I've wanted to do a custom CPC set and started talking to him about using his design. We worked together to build a set together but ran out of time and ended up each just getting our own.
I guess that makes his primaries and mine secondaries?

My Jack Rabbit Slim’s sets are on small crown. I really like the mold. Looks and feels good.

I'll just piggyback and reiterate how great these chips are. Played with the tourney chips a year ago at our SoCal meet-up and they were way better than I expected. I decided to abandon my TRK project and sold off most of what I had and instead decided I'd just do a CPC SCRWN set.

I’ve absolutely loved the TRKs I’ve picked up, so it’s very high praise to hear the CPC SCRWN impressed you that much. I’ve never had a whole shuffle stack to fondle, but the sample set and the few Jack Rabbit Slims I’ve got sure do look and feel good!!

Might be time to start working on a new order…….

Yeah, I was really surprised and impressed. The holy grail old school leaded TRKs are still superior, but the difference wasn’t as dramatic as I thought it would be.

And with the superior price tag that comes along with those premium TRKs (buttery and incredible as they may be), I’ll gladly go with the fully customizable and more affordable CPCs

Is it normal for stacks to be this much out of balance? Is that just excess chip dust in one stack? Just clean them and shut up about it?

We scrutinize CPC ships a hell of a lot more than others because they are personal, unique and we are much more connected to them having designed and worked on them for so long. What we don't realise is that height variation is common among all chips. A while ago I stacked various TRKs and found that their heights varied quite considerably but no one talks about that.

Enjoy the hell out of your CPCs - I know I do!
Just now stumbling into this group of posts.

I'll be honest, this is very disconcerting to me. I literally scrapped a used Paulson chip set I was putting together in favor of designing a CPC set specifically due to stack height issues with the used Paulsons. The roughly 1/3 to 1/2 chip stack height differences between some denominations had me tilting. If now I'm going to end up with stack height diffs within denoms, that's even worse!!!

As someone else mentioned, is this due to just a few random "extra thick" chips that can be sorted out? Or are there going to be large groups of chips that are one thickness, and another large group that are a different thickness due to the chips being produced on multiple sets of dies with differing amounts of wear?

I'm literally rethinking my plans to order a set of CPCs due to this issue.

You can definitely sort out the thicker chips that get pressed. Order 10% surplus to your needs and it'll be fine. CSQ and DSQ are notoriously the worst molds when it comes to this.

So it's not going to be half the chips are produced thicker and half are thinner? Because that is what I would expect if this is caused by some dies being more worn than others. If it's only like 10% are thicker, then what is the explanation for why that happens?

Having just been through my set with a fine toothcomb, let me try and put your mind at rest and explain the issue as I see it. This was a huge issue for me and I asked a few people before making my purchase.

First of all, no, not all my stacks are perfect. If you want absolute perfection, I would suggest ceramics.

You can see (just about) in the above picture that the hundos are taller than the £25s. There are more pics in my thread, as you know. Ignore the first one because that was before I sorted them, the pics of each denom should reassure you.

The process I followed was something like this:

1 - Spinners check, I took every single chip, all 1180 of them inc spares and samples, I spun them on a macbook pro, the smoothest thing I could find, any that spun were put aside.
2 - Then I took the fracs and put them into barrels. I ordered 120 (20 for samples), CPC delivered 133. So I had 6 barrels and 13 spares. I stacked the barrels next to each other, maybe 4 were "perfect" then 1 was shorter and 1 was taller. So I'd take the shorter and taller barrels, break them down then randomly mix them up and see how they stacked up after doing that. Sometimes they were fine, sometimes they were worse. Essentially through a process of trial and error I was able to remove any obviously thicker chips.
3 - Once I had 6 even barrels, I broke them all down, mixed up all 120 and then put them in barrels again. Weirdly, I had some uneven stacks again, so I followed step 2 again. Eventually, I got to a position where I had 5 barrels that were even every single time after being mixed up.
4 - Repeat the above for all the denoms.

In summary, in a game, I don't think this will be an issue. All my denoms are pretty close in 20s now, even in 40s it's a small difference. The £25s do seem to be a little thinner than the rest, but in my game, there will never be a barrel £25s in front of a player.

Hope this helps, I don't regret my purchase at all and I am very particular about this sort of thing.

Oh, I forgot....I think this comes down to the handmade nature of these chips. Some are a bit thicker, some are a bit thinner, on the whole it averages out. You'll get the odd tall stack sometimes but it's easily remedied, CPC include plenty of spares as well. I got around 5% extra in spares, can't fault them for that!

I thought I was a bit obsessed with my chips… but I think you win

What are the mold currently running ?
And the next steps ? (B-mold in September for sure :) )
Thanks

DIASQR is running, not sure where I am in the queue but my order should be wrapping up shortly.
