Now I'm an insurance broker for the last 7 years, selling mainly house, car, and condo building policies. It's not glamourous but it pays the bills!

Congrats, Marsha! My wife finally cut the cord after we returned from France in November. It's liberating!

Thanks, Larry. I recall reading that she was reluctant. As for me, I'll be spending the next couple of months house hunting, packing, moving, and getting myself established in Iowa. After that, I'll be free as a bird. Very much looking forward to life as a retiree. :)

Sales Manager for 21 years. At some point I was Sales Director and Director, but I downshifted back. Greatest decision ever.

Well as of Dec12th, I'm back in the game. I'm an IT Consultant for a global company. Right now I specialize in supporting Wireless Networking at RV parks in the US. I also support 4 companies without IT staff onsite.

So happy to be back making a living, and enjoying what I do.

Lots of jobs in high school and college -- janitor, busboy, dishwasher, college stadium hot dog vendor, construction.
Writer for a mid-sized city's daily newspaper (1980s)
Police officer and detective (25 years through retirement in 2015)

Now working part time as a test proctor at a university (20 hours / week) consulting for government and law enforcement (logistical support for grants, studies, case prep), and running an online casino chip and supply business every day.

But my wife thinks I'm retired and up to no good. She's half right.

.... I recall reading that she was reluctant....

Wouldn't you know, as soon as I typed that, she spent two hours this morning on the phone with her *second* successor, helping her out. The first one was canned after a month...

I limited my post-retirement contact with my former co-workers to occasional lunches and poker games -- no work discussion at all, except to laugh at their tales. It worked out well.

At least I didn't have to run away to Iowa to get away from it all! I mean, I like corn as much as the next guy, but still...

Is that a euphemism? Please elaborate!

Great resume material for a job in Facebook support.
When I was a freshman and sophomore in college, I washed dishes after in house meals at a sorority, a gig that had ulterior motives, that for the most part did not pan out. It was not quite as glamorous as being a waiter, those boys got more face time with the ladies while working.....

I'm a marine engineer.

I have worked all over the world on different types of ships.

Currently sailing on the great lakes on an ore carrier.

I like the work and the time off. (I usually ship about 6 months a year)

The time away always suck though. I hope to be done sailing in 5 or so years and open my own business.
