Not familiar with that game. Mount & Blade Bannerlord has multiple themed factions that are competing to control the continent in a quest mode where you either try to unite the Empire factions under one banner or oppose the empire and destroy it.
There are three Empire factions (north, south and west, modeled after Rome/Byzantine) and then there's Sturgians (think Nords/Vikings), Vlandians (French/German/Gothic knight style), Khuzait (Mongols), Aseri (Desert factions/Egyptian?), and Battanians (Gaul)
You start out independent with your own clan and work towards leveling your character up and their skills in different areas (you can't max everything so you have to select). You can play as a merchant or smith, trading or producing your way to wealth, you can lead bands of soldiers and eventually armies, hire companians with their own skills to complement your own, etc.
You can become a mercenary for the existing factions, eventually become a vassal in support of one of them or try to forge your own kingdom even. I usually play sandbox mode since the quest is kinda meh
