What video games are you playing? (23 Viewers)

Been playing the Metaphor ReFantazio demo and it's just pure turn-based JRPG goodness. Happily put down the money on a pre-order for when it releases in a couple weeks.

Oh and Balatro. Sweet sweet Balatro. Have 4 decks (Green, Yellow, Checkerboard, and Plasma) beaten on Gold Stake now!

About the only thing I play anymore is this game and I’m pretty sure I’m the only person on earth playing it, lol.

Metaphor's combat system looks like it's basically Persona. Am I wrong? It's the same publisher, so that's not surprising.

I miss having time for JRPGs. I have two young kids in sports and my free time going to poker. And I can't stand playing a big RPG only an hour at a time. I need multiple hours per session to be able to keep up with it. I managed to almost finish FF7 Rebirth. But I got to the 2nd to last chapter and then life for in the way and now I just can't go back to it.

A lot of similarities between Metaphor and Persona's combat for sure. It's going to be a lot more streamlined since you don't have to acquire / combine captured foes to acquire new skills and stat boosts. You pick a job class, level it, and can inherit any learned skill to mix and match with other classes.

Outside combat is also familiar. You have time for an afternoon activity and an evening activity every day. Level up your royal virtues (social skills), spend time with allies to gain new job classes eventually. It's a tried and true formula and the developer certainly didn't re-invent the wheel.

English voice acting is top notch as well.

Completely agreed, with JRPGs and survival horror type games. An hour before bed just doesn't cut it. Getting old!

Any good mobile games you enjoy?

If a gamepad is an option for you, SNK released some very good NeoGeo games on Android. To name a few :
- King of Fighters series
- Metal Slug series
- Samurai Shodown series
- Fatal Fury series
- ...

Konami also released what I think is the best Castlevania game of the series : Symphony of the Night.

Thanks!! Just downloaded some of these!

Those were all top notch NeoGeo games. I might have to pick up a game pad for my phone. Many hours playing Metal Slug and Samurai Showdown.

Also played the original NES Castlevania.

Still need to get my kids to hook up their Nintendo Switch to the TV so I can play Metroid Dread. Currently the PS4 is connected so they can play the equivalent to Super Smash Bros (All stars?)

Kids are playing Elden Ring amongst many others. They won't play COD with me lol.

You would think that given a large part of my job is automation that the last thing I'd want to do is play a video game all about automation, but the factory must grow.

Satisfactory has consumed me.

I've played modded for a long time (U4 and beyond) and way too deep into v1.0 now.

Spaghetti world in full effect

I set out with all the good intentions of nice clean layouts and no spaghetti, but I quickly realized this factory is going to get remade four or five times by the time it's all said and done and I should go with convenience while I move up the tech tree.

Now if I could just figure out why the water system isn't functioning properly for my coal generators....

Dude, same!!! I'm doing 8:3 coal to water and 2 of my coal don't get water flow.

What game is this?

OpenRA
This is a modern interpretation of classic C&C games (Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert).
This a modern RTS (balanced, with a lot of UI and QoL improvements) using old Westwood Studios visual assets.
Gameplay-wise, it's totally different than the original games.

I'm kind of on and off when it comes to gaming consistently, but a staple for the past 6 or so years has been Fortnite

Really love the competitive aspect of the game and am currently in the highest rank, Unreal, which makes up the top 2.4% of players currently

Just finished the Silent Hill 2 remake. A bit too long I think (15 hours for first play), but that's pretty much my only negative. Still one of the most psychologically interesting games ever made. I pick up on more things each time I play it. Still working on Echoes of Wisdom as well.

Too many games coming out I want to play and not enough time. Metaphor, Mario & Luigi, Ys X, and Dragon Quest 3 remake.

I really liked the Metaphor demo, but it's nothing that new or different than Atlus's other offerings. None of which I've ever finished. Closest I ever came was Persona 3. My issue with them is that they are sooooooo long, and so punishing in terms of missing stuff. Despite having tons of stuff I like. If you don't have a guidr to learn how to use your limited time each day, you are just going to miss a ton of stuff. So probably just going to forego Metaphor, even though it's supposedly not as punishing in these regards. Maybe when it's on a big sale or PS Plus.

I'm most interested in Mario & Luigi. And my son wants Ys X as he really liked Ys VIII. So probably getting both of those.

Always switching between God of War on the PS5 and Super Mario Bros on the Super Nintendo. 30 years apart and still hard to pick a favorite

Bought Metaphor, love it.

Bought Super Mario Party Jamboree for the family, we love it.

Black deck in Balatro can burn in hell.
