Windwalker’s Chipping Journey in Pr0n0grAph1C Detail (9 Viewers)

There is something so perfect about minty, sharp chips.

Here I was thinking the only time I could be jealous of Beverly Hills was during the Oscars…

I found this photoshoot of the Lakeshores, and wasn’t sure if I had posted them. When I originally started posting Pr0n, I used to layer on a VSCO filter that oversaturated a lot of pics, but I’ve since moved onto Lightroom, where I play with the greys, shadows, and whites to help the colors pop, but be more realistic.

Absolutely tickled pink about this ultra-rare 900 chip micro-stakes single-cardroom set. It’s a great learning set for people who want to feel out circus games, and something I want to use to teach my godson how to play poker. These chips are from circa 1957 1992.

EDIT: As our resident librarian @GianThaMan points out, my information on the date is incorrect, because of the presence of both LCV and SCV. I’m digging to get more accurate info.

Interesting that the 5c and 10c chips are the only ones recessed

hmmmmmmm. I was always under the impression that Paulson/GPI/Angel didn't differentiate between SCV/LCV and mixed runs often took place. More things to remember.
Paulson did, though mixed runs and error chips did occur. GPI/Angel don't. Not sure how that's related to what I said though.

That has to be the best Paulson CA micro stakes hot stamped set ever produced - IMHO …
If there are better quality Paulson CA micro stakes sets - I have never come across any .

I hope you host a home game once a week/month so you can showcase one of your 10 grail sets lol crazy!

These can't be from 1957, Paulson only started producing their own chips in the 1970s, and some of these are SCVs, which means they have to be Paulson-produced, not Burt. Also, I looked up the bowling alley (it's still around, though only as a restaurant and bowling alley) and they say they started in 1994, so I'd guess they were produced around that time (though they may have been made by the previous owner of the bowling alley). Regardless, they aren't from 1957.

I found the 1957 number on an old eBay listing with its history. I’ll do more digging!

I called the location which is now a bowling alley, and they said the owner will be in tomorrow, going to try and talk to them about the history. Someone I spoke to who had been there for 10 years said they hadn’t been a casino as far as he knew. So it had to be from a previous incarnation.

1994 is more than 10 years from 2021, so you still have a 17-year window for the place to have been a casino, and judging by the chips, they weren’t used for very long.

Given the denominations, I'd date The Back Alley to 1970ish. Firmly late enough to not be C&J hat and cane chips, but early enough that nickels and dimes still made a little bit of micro stakes sense. Just a guess.
You trying to say nickels and dimes don't make sense any more???

If you haven't found much history so far I didn't expect to see anything here, but I'm adding it to the thread. Looks like the ChipGuide is missing photos and scans of a couple of the chips you have, Krish!

Greg, as usual, your resident librarian skills are beyond reproach. The former owner of the Back Alley had the chips made in 1992, and they were used only 3 times. He sold the business soon after in 1993, and it was reinvented as a bowling alley / bar and grill under new ownership in 1994.

That’s such a cool wee set. Love it.

This will be contested and again this hobby is different to everyone... but as far as very close to mint, single casino, Cali, super low stakes and from an actual card room... the rarity of all of these thing combined and being a solid Hot Stamp lover my self.. I may venture to say this may actually be the "Crown Jewel" of the collection for me.

Why?? How could I say such a thing...

Lots of casinos made awesome chips with bright colors and amazing edge spots we all know this! But didn't we just go through the rarity of casino/card room nickles? Even 1992... these have had nearly 30 years to get separated, beat up and abused in home games or just flat out neglected! But no, all prestine and original, every micro denom accounted for and all matching/simply beautiful condition gold foil on the stamps!

Cocaine Giraffes are nice, Lakeshores yup amazing, Nevada Lodge... no argument there on Minty leaded TRKs in amazing colors... but there are multiple tables of each of these sets in existence. This place was probably planning on running a table or two max. They played them 3 freaking times almost 30 years ago!!

So again I know this is probably not going to get many likes or many folks that agree. But for a Micro Stakes Hot stamp lover like myself. I think this one just might be that 1st place set for me in the collection. There is one in existence in this category that i think may top it, the Kings Crown Casino. It is a TRK scrown set, it has HS's and edge spots... but the casino never opened, so not sure where I would really rank that and I believe definitely a higher quantity of chips were made and I believe the lowest denom was a dime.

Either way solid 10 Krish! Congratulations Sir! Sorry for the Ben book in your thread.
