Windwalker’s Chipping Journey in Pr0n0grAph1C Detail (13 Viewers)

View attachment 577536

This specific chip appears to be a faux shaped label. White edge along the top, no shadow in the cogs, unlike Krish's last pic, and off center printing ...compare the black outline( distance from cog to label edge) at top and bottom of label. These observations are why I brought it up.

Could there be two versions?
Don't think so...the whole casino chip rack (primary & secondary) were ordered in 83-84...no evidence they reodered before they closed down (esp no secondary chips). I doubt Paulson was offering faux shaped inlay back then....only started when shaped inlays were not possible anymore.

That's why I (now) think my Aztar hundos were also smooth...and all were for use of micro dot ($25 & $1 are textured for sure)

Just to clear something up - a "faux shaped inlay" is still a real inlay! I've seen a few comments suggesting that the inlay must be real because it's textured or smooth or has a microdot or so forth... but that's not in dispute! The question is whether the inlay (which is real) is shaped, or if the inlay (which is real) is round, with a shape that's merely printed on the round inlay.

@Windwalker , perhaps you could mail one of them to a very experienced chipper (such as, oh, say, @BGinGA were he willing) and ask them to confirm for you whether the inlay is shaped or round. I believe it would be easy to do for someone with experience, even though it might be difficult for a neophyte such as you or I. Short of murdering the chip. Which I hope you won't do.

I totally disagree. The white 'edge' on top is a reflection of light, not the edge of a 'label'. Image being off-center is due to inlay placement prior to pressing (uncentered inlays -- both shaped and round -- are common).

In contrast, a printed faux-shape label would be perfectly centered, by design. And being round, it wouldn't reach all the way to the edge of the recess, similar to any other round inlay.

Just a low quality pic.
There is one version.
It is shaped with a smooth inlay.
There was no reorder as these were never put in play.

While I love my buddie Dave...there are some other members too that do know what they talk about (not looking at me btw)

Reason why we were looking at milled/relabel option was because noone ever saw faux shaped inlays on Aztar MO sec hundos....the ONLY other options they could exist was this route

Indeed, not intended to be a slight on the many, many knowledgeable and experienced folks here. Dave is merely one of the more... visible... of the local experts.

Not that it matters, but I was going to mention this as well. Off-centered-ness of the shape within the round recess is a pretty sure sign that the inlay is shaped, rather than the shape being printed on a round inlay. Inlays, whatever their shape, are going to be slightly off-center relative to the molded recess, and the molded recess is going to be perfectly concentric with the rest of the mold (the rings and the hats).

The offset is in the inlay...can't do this with milling & labels....also micro dot
Offset was the dead give-away

I see I'm unfortunately too late to prevent the needless murder of a perfectly fine and authentic shaped inlay chip. A pristine $100 Casino Aztar secondary LCV, no less. :(

Please do not murder one of the best hundos ever created. Maybe the best. I am not going to 'experiment' on any of these chips, and my eyes aren't as sharp as when I was 18, but there is nothing FAUX about ANY part of this chip, especially the perfectly shaped inlay
Everyone calm down, I just did some close up pics.

As the newbie in this discussion — what’s the final verdict here? Was the first pic in my Pr0n post of a chip that had a faux shaped inlay? Or was it just the light / texture?

EDIT: nvm, @softchewy cleared it up.

One of the reasons I do not like chip murder on casino chips is this case in point. It creates doubt!. I do follow the, "they are your chips do do with them what you want", but I do not like when people alter casino chips and then resell them. Also I think it is okay as long as you plan on keeping them and not ever reselling. I have seen it go as far as shaving the outside edge to make a chip have sharp edges.

...... So I can't sell anything....

:(

Maybe I should add that full disclosure in sales really helps! People are going to buy what they want to buy.

Sell away!
.... Oh, now your giving me permission to sell! *Flips table*

I demand a recount!

And I have never sold a single one...

I just think this is key...for the rest...love the creativity people use to improve chips
Clean - Ultrasonic - overlabel - inlay replacement - milling - shaving edges

And I must say some chips/sets look sooo much better after a rehaul....like the new Aztar $5 (@bentax1978) and many others

Guys. Thank you.

My chipping journey continues.

journey > destination

ALWAYS :)

I’d like to make an offer on this chip on eBay, but does anyone know if the chip can be easily removed from its lucite enclosure? I’ve never seen a chip housed like that.

You should be able to use any of these, but again, the chip might get damaged if you aren’t careful:
- 1,2 Dichloroethane
- Acetone
- Cyclohexanone
- Dichloromethane
- MEK
- Methyl benzene
- Tetrahydrofuran
Or you could use a wire saw and saw it in half as best as you can, then try to pop it off without damaging the chip.

Ugh. Probably not worth it for the risk / reward. Thank you.
