2016 Custom Chip HOF stump thread. (3 Viewers)

I didn't disagree with many points made by Jeff and payback but do not in any way want that to be a dig against the 2015 committee. They made good points too.
I hope the way I presented my point last time didn't sound critical of the PEOPLE involved. Quite the contrary, I consider the people who spearheaded this to be great guys...it certainly wasn't a dig against them.

As an avid collector, my opinion continues to be that a wider celebration of custom chips past and present would be something that would be more healthy for the site and the custom chip market than the current approach. It might be more of an inspiration to others who haven't created sets yet.

But if you're going to go down the "best chips in the universe" path again, I don't think 5 sets is enough. MOAR PR0n!

I'll post some pics when I have time. But here are some sets I feel HoF worthy.

California Club - AlbinoDragon
Colony Club - Puggy

And will add more when I remember them

Yes, already stopped by Jeff's site. Doesn't have many of the older sets unfortunately...

There's a thread on CT about all the sets from yesteryear

I'd like to throw my hat in the ring (along with @Poker Zombie's hat) with our CPC chips. Too many favorites to pick one. Here is my first Pr0n montage.

Perfect stuff Ben! I had never seen either of those before.

Gotta rep for the old school - the new school gets more than it's fair share. ;)

Old-time BCC really did pump out the best-looking sets ever - and since he had to order a kajillion to make the BCC minimum, he later sold off some the Vier chips on eBay. For 0.50 euro / chip. Why oh why wasn't I around back then???

In light of the recent add-ons, I'd like to stump for Ben's Via Lactea Cash set. He can post up better photos but here is one. Here is my rationale:
1. Completeness - It covers every player from nit to bergs - Maybe a 1000 is necessary but I don't see a reason for it. DB is in top 5 custom DBs I've seen.
2. Execution of a theme. Astronomy and Latin title go very well together. Constellations are perfectly done. The inlays are different but also very similar and that just ties them together that much more in a pot. The 500 stands out as something a bit different than what anybody has done and the inlay brings attention to it as well.
3. Overall spot progression and color choice. The $1, $5 workhorses are favorites and the California based set is exciting to the eye but not too busy.

I really hope to camp out on Ben's lawn one day and play some nano-stakes to put a bunch of those orange, pies, and $1s in front of me.

I'm not completely sure but I'm guessing that pltrgyst's question about Suicide Kings vs. Suicide Queens was rhetorical - there have been at least 4 different GBs of Suicide Kings (TRK, BCC, ASM, and a hotstamp set that I can't remember who made - can't find any pics now) all well before the Suicide Queens were done.

Thank you Slisk for all the love! :D

Colony Club, beat everyone to it.

I am honored and humbled by the great feedback, which I have gotten concerning Colony Clubs.
And even more so, that they are already mentioned in this thread. Promise to take a lot more pr0n next weekend:

Since I gave my rationale for Via Lactea, here are my CC notes

1. Another example of perfect spot progression and color choice. Keep the white $1
2. Perfect graphic representation of a landmark on a chip that isn't a photo.
3. The color matching for each of the denoms is nearly perfect
4. DB is the nutz. - looking forward to the tournament set if it ever happens.
5. MD50 mold as absolutely perfect for this set...

Just a note, Via Lactea is A mold

Ben's DB was in my mind at the time a brought up the topic of non-chip chips in the HoF. Not surprisingly, it was a topic last year as well - and since the committee rotates every year, it will probably come up again in future years. Here is the reply:

Any betting instrument designed and produced in coordination with the custom set which is intended to be wagered or won during the course of play will be considered a part of the set for the purposes of nomination to and selection for the Hall of Fame.

Further discussion excluded rebuy buttons from consideration (not wagered/won), but included plaques, jetons, and perhaps whatever cool (yet palpable) item the future holds.

I love it. The old ones are the ones you have to dig for if their owner isn't still around pumping out chip porn. Finding the actual pics can be a chore as well sometimes.

While digging, I came across stuff from DrJohn on CT. The man was genius. Since we never hear from him these days, I assume he's outside BCC begging for them to reopen their doors, or homeless living under a bridge in a box made out of chips?

Are you really homeless if you have a box of chips?
