A Glimpse Inside the Goldfish Bowl - poker analysis, pr0n and random thoughts (4 Viewers)

Well it is official….. this set is being dismantled. The vlv 50s and cdm 1s are now gone and the horseshoe 1s currently are up for sale…… believe It or not, my crew just can’t get used to yellow 5s. The like red 5s better. I know, crazy!

My crew was fine with yellow 5s but were super confused with black 20s

always something new and exciting going in at the animal house! Tried sanding my matsui chips tonight to make them less slippery. 4 racks completed with 2000 grit sandpaper (dry rub). The 4 racks are definitely less slippery than the unsanded chips. No visible signs of scratching/damage to the chips. I went thru 30 pieces of sandpaper. Need to get more tomorrow.

Well, the radissons were not too lucky for me Tonight. Still they shuffled nicely, were not to slippery and looked nice on the felt. They appear much more durable than Paulsons so they will definitely get a lot more play at the animal house in the future.

As I am now getting into plastic chips a bit, is it possible to rank the plastic chip manufacturers? Which one is the best In terms of color vibrancy, feel and function (least slippery). All thoughts welcome!

Opinions vary!

Based on the samples I have, the Abbiati Park Place chips are the best overall. They feel and sound great, rather different than any other chip I've handled. Heavy but not too heavy, grippy rather than slippery. They almost sound hollow when riffled, but with a deep register that gives a sense of importance. They have a satisfying "clack" when scooping in a pot.

The Matsui non-ABS chips (I think these are the same as your Radissons) are pretty similar to the Abbiatis, but with a higher-pitched and not-hollow sound. They're very slippery, though, but of course with sandpaper and elbow grease that can be remedied.

I have some B&G Crystal Moscow chips and some B&G Europa Lithuania chips. These are very heavy but feel great. The Lithuanias are slightly slippery, the Moscows are grippy. The weight makes them tiring to handle, but at the same time gives them a solidity that's very satisfying.

I have some Bud Jones S2 chips and they feel very nice. Not too heavy, easy to handle, very satisfying "clack" when riffled. I also have some Bud Jones S7 chips and cannot recommend these at all; the infamous "suction" effect is real and it makes them extremely annoying to handle.

I have some Matsui ABS chips (Emerald Bay) and I'm not fond of them. The plastic sounds soft and rubbery, while at the same time the corners are sharp and hard, which makes them unpleasant to handle and riffle. They're also quite slippery.

I have two different types of RT Plastics. The Moscow Golden Palace chips are very light, and they sound very light when riffled. They handle well, and would be very functional to play with, but aren't very satisfying. The other type I have is Noble Games / Bugsy's Hideaway / Dillinger's Gambling Hall; these feel very good, handle well, and have a nice mid-range sound when shuffled. They're not particularly slick. They're a bit on the light side. I'd actually place these pretty high on the overall ranking.

All my plastics have bright, vibrant colors. Visually, the limitation will be in the available designs and not the quality of the colors. Matsui and Abbiati can be made to custom specs with a huge array of stock design elements. B&G and Bud Jones, you have to take what you can find on the third-party casino-used market, although there's still a decent variety of nice designs. RT Plastics is also third-party-market only, and the designs are much simpler.

My limited experience.

Matsui Emerald Bay Club - I would give these a 10/10 on color and looks. The colors were very vibrant and the edges were surprisingly sharp. However, playability was 0/10 for me. Have never experienced such slippery chips. Trying to keep a stack of 20 together was near impossible. Would never buy again which is a shame based on how great they looked.

Abbiati Park Place - Thought this site had taught me that plastic was bad so was on the fence with these. Super happy I decided to buy. There are a few negatives such as bleed in the side paint:LOL: , the inner ring seems a little inconsistent, and the sticker is off centered on some allowing the metal insert to shine through. However, with that being said, I am definitely partaking in any addon buy and would love to see some 43mm options added. Abbiati is a solid recommended in my book.

Another +1 for Abbiati. I'm not a plastic chip guy but was in on the Crown Plaza group buy. When I got them I was very pleasantly surprised with how great they felt. The are plastic but have somewhat rubbery feel to them too which helps keep them from being too slippery. The colors are amazing but there was indeed a little color bleeding on some of the edges (dots). Overall I was very happy. When I put those chips into play the poker crew felt that was one of their favorite sets to date.

I have to agree with this. I acquired a Crown Plaza set a few months ago. They finally will hit the felt on SAT night. For me to truly rate/judge chips. I need to get them on the felt. Plus there will be a handful of chippers at the table. I'm excited to get their take on them!

I thought you bought the Park Place set?

I actually love the set. I didn’t only because I need 43 mm for the hi denominations ($500 and above). If abbiati would return my call, I would probably do an animal house run of these……
Reach out to @Tommy to see if he has good guidance on working with Abbiati

Switching gears for a minute….. while I did sell my cdm 1s and vlv 50s (sigh), I am rebuilding the set with red 5s. From a chipping perspective the yellow cdm 1s were a much better fit (leaded, edge spots were more consistent with the set, etc.), but my group seems to like red 5s and 43 mm 500s better, so here we are……..

working on a new felt for my current table, which on do you like best? Also let me know if anyone thinks that a black felt is a bad idea inside the betting line (because black chips will blend in too much). Let me know. Thanks!
