I do not have extraordinarily high standards for cleanliness in restaurants, but I would never eat a hot dog from a hot dog cart.
what about the roadside hotdog stand? You know those tiny little buildings with just enough room to grill hotdogs and sell them out of a window?
Frankly (har!), me either. But from Gray's Papaya On 72nd and Broadway? Hellz yeah.

In my opinion a sandwich has a top and bottom bread. A hot dog is more kin to a hoagie in that it is open on top.

I don't like hot dogs, and don't really care. I'm killing time waiting for the doctor to check me out after getting rear ended on my way to work this morning.

Amazing how I have already received 3 phone calls and a text from lawyers and doctor soliciting firms.

Playing devil's advocate here, because I'm 100% in the "not a sandwich" camp, but if the limitation is that it's open on end, is a corn dog a sandwich?

Notable that OP has not denied Weiner-induced trauma that resulted in sammich PSD.

Sweden, Sweden of all places, also having all kinds of sammich problems.

I had drinks with friends tonight and I brought up this topic. It was great fun conversation for 30-40 minutes.

I have absolutely nothing to contribute to this discussion. I just wanted to post in a (so far) 9 page thread about hot dogs.

Continue.

Yes, yes, but it'll get edited right back to reality, quickly. Not so quickly on the "simple" variant, but the main Wikipedia is pretty damn well policed, and it's a great source for references (by design.)

And there was obviously some "history" with nonsense going on with the main hot dog page - notice the lock in the upper-right corner? The page has been protected since Dec 23, 2016 because of vandalism.

For all that some people like to complain about Wikipedia, the community runs and polices it quite well, and it's a great source for basic info and references.

Normally, I remove vandalism when I spot it, and often fix grammar errors or typos when I spot them... but have decided to leave the spooky ass magic I've spotted, at least for now...

In theory this would make sense but the mods are clearly fucking crazy. They still have a picture of a hot dog with ketchup on it.....madness....

Not a sandwich.

Sandwich contents = flat.

Hot dog meat = round.

Taco also not a sandwich (one U shaped bread - sandwich has two breads)

It's poutine . . . and it's cheese curds. Only a heathen, or an American, would use cottage cheese. Sheesh, no wonder you're confused about a sammich.

Not confused but some of the Canadian teachers at my school are. They are eating cottage cheese with the poutine and hot dog sandwiches. Talk to them.

Haven't read a single post, but find it hilarious that the thread title's question has elicted 260 responses.

My thoughts exatly, BG. I've been on the west coast all week and I saw this thread start the other morning. I am surprised, and not, that this thread has generated 9 pages of discussion.

This is a hot dog sandwich:

The key thing here is the hot dog has been reshaped to a more traditional sandwich filling. If you do the same thing in a hot dog bun, I will even grant that as a hot dog sandwich. A round dog in a bun is not a sandwich.

Did you make these? If so you should seek help. If you are out of hotdog buns, you just fold the bread. The cutting of hotdogs is only for serving them with Spaghetti Os or hiding your dog's medication.

Uh...bzzzzzzt. So close, Clay, but suboptimal. Apparently, discussion required. Real men eat hotdogs Viking-style:

Behold, the Swedish tunnbrödsrulle: two dogs, mashed potatoes, lettuce, pickle relish, mustard and a big dollop of shrimp salad, all wrapped up in a soft flatbread.

Heaven on earth. And yes, it's a sandwich, bitchezzzz!

Have to disagree, that is a wrap, not a sandwich.

Struggling a bit with this one. If it was a tortilla I'd be on the no sandwich side for sure, but it's flatbread. Life is full of tough decisions.

I'll tell you what that is. It's a fucked up mess....neither a sandwich or a hotdog. The guy who made that probably thinks potato salad is actually a salad.
