I agree it belongs here. People don't have equal chance, its first come first serve. The tournament set went in minutes. Whoever hits refresh more wins.

In a group buy, everybody gets in on a new product until a specified date. Doesn't matter how fast you are to the thread, you get the same pricing and the same unlimited availability on the new yet to be made product that everybody else gets.

I disagree. I would say the PNY GBs that I ran were run in the same manner. Had someone said I'll take them all they would have disappeared.

To address "fairness". Should I go back to a lotto system? How long is enough time to have people enter?

If unlimited quantity is the qualifier than nothing outside of a manufacture would qualify. Even the PNY were limited.

The Tourney set could have been moved here, but it was attached as bait. BTW, they are still for sale.

All this can be settled with a "what is a group buy" post/sticker from the staff

I think the matter of where this thread belongs was settled a few posts ago by Tommy. Don't really understand what the big deal is as classifieds here are free...

US residents get priority.

Everyone has equal chance to participate, no one is excluded.

I'm excluded if there are enough buyers in the US. But I'll just pass to make things easy all around. (y)

Doesn't change anything except the location of the thread, who cares. In sales like these it makes no difference, just tag the sale as "all sell or none sell"... thread location is irrelivent.

Most members have no idea what forum they are in anyways, 95% of what I/they/we see is what pops up when we click "new posts".

I don't know if anybody else does this, but I have alerts set up for classifieds (since they're usually time sensitive) but not group buys. One positive to having the thread here, I guess.

While I didn't end up getting a set, having a lotto system when there are going to be hundreds of sets put up for sale seems way too inefficient and time consuming. I would just continue to list the remaining sets for sale in the classifieds and if someone misses out on one set they probably can get one of the other from this huge collection. It's not like there aren't going to be a ton of different sets put up for sale ;).

Moving this to WTS seems like a knee jerk reaction to something... If we are intent on having rules to define what constitutes a GB or WTS, I would argue the biggest requirement for a WTS ad is that the seller needs to in fact have possession of the chips and ability to sell them at whatever price he chooses. Clearly not the case here.

Exactly this. Why waste time moving threads?

Took 20 seconds on my phone to move thread. After it was reported to forum staff.

I agree that the WTS section is more appropriate. And that it has no negative effects on the ad to have it placed in this section.

I think this debate is silly. Let's just Carry on with this epic sale.

I agree the debate is silly, but I don't think there was one until the thread was moved.

If there is a written policy clarifying what goes where, then it should be followed, but absent that, it seems to me the way to avoid this silly debate would have been not to take unnecessary action that had no substantive consequence apart from providing the opportunity for someone to say, "You're wrong; I'm right," on the basis of a definition no one seems to be able to provide.

How about this. It's his forum, and you're a guest here just like me. You either like it or you don't. If you don't, you can always go back to chiptalk.

Can we move on now?

Did you get deputized? Feel free to move on at your own pace.

I agree the debate is silly, but....

BUT.... We are still debating it?

The location is irrelevant, who cares that it was moved. For sale ads belong in the classifieds, group buys belong in the group buy section. There is no problem that I see, other than what problems people are making of this non-issue.

Carry on with is epic sale.

Agreed the location is irrelevant. Yet you decided to move it on the basis of undefined categories. So perhaps you don't think the location is irrelevant.

One would think that if a rule is going to be enforced that it should at least be understood by those enforcing it. It could be clarified pretty simply: point me to where GB is defined or at least provide the working definition so that in the future, people will know where to post their ads.

Parenthetically, I love the idea of someone caring enough that this thread was "reported to forum staff".

Wow so wrong on both fronts. LOL that group buys are strictly around new product to be made. Also, you either like it or you don't? Are you serious? This is a community and yes things should be challenged when administrative confusions arise vs "Go back to Africa" type responses. It's fair to come up with a definition for what constitutes a GB vs WTS instead of just moving posts around due to personal opinion. HQ doesn't have the chips, but has the opportunity to get discounts based on GB commitments. Do I personally think its worth the hassle? No, but HQ is justifying the means for the end of rock bottom pricing.
