Barrington poker table thread (42 Viewers)

It sounds like the tight fit keeps them in place? No need to glue in?
The topper:
Because the topper just sits on top of the factory felt, it's going to have a little give if you press hard enough. Given the poor quality of the original barrington felt, even that one bunches up when you press and drag. I would think that the only alternative around that is to get a different playing surface (like SSC) that you could staple down so that there's no give.

The cupholders:
I knew I wanted to replace the factory crappy cupholders. So I ended up purchasing two sizes:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0789HG6NW?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share&tag=pokchifor0d-20
AND
https://www.amazon.com/YH-Poker-Sta...sprefix=yuanhe+cup+holder,aps,99&sr=8-15&th=1

I ended up installing the standard sized ones instead of the jumbo ones because I felt like the jumbos took up too much space in the rail. If you go with the standard cupholders, use a 2-3/4 inch hole saw and the fit will be perfect. No need for glue. And the table will fold up with no issues with the height of those cupholders. Depending on which Barrington you purchased, you may need to cut the off a small portion of the legs so that four of the cupholders fit properly.

I put the deeper cup holders in mine and I do have a few that fall out when transporting the table. I plan to use some glue.

YMMV

I installed the larger cup holders. They weren’t snug, so I wrapped the cup holders with some painters tape to give it extra thickness. Holds snug now and looks great.

Does anyone think I could get away with using a 9” wide roll of foam vs. an entire sheet to replace rail padding on the 6 individual sections?

I don't know if 9 inches is wide enough for the 2 rounded end pieces. It should work fine for the other four.

Could someone link me to the best tutorial/how to for upgrading to the jumbo cup holders? I’m considering a Memorial Day weekend project.

I think these are the correct cup holders (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0789HG6NW?ref_=cm_sw_r_apin_dp_17K1WRCSBRQ81W0EWC1E_1), but recommendations for the drill bit, saw (if needed for trimming the leg brace underneath?), and best method for the replacement would be great!

I used these (I think it is the same link...but just in case) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0789HG6NW?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share&tag=pokchifor0d-20
previous page, you will see I used a heat gun to soften the glue. constant movement so you dont burn any of the fake leather touching it. they came out in about 30 seconds to a min of heating.

I used a cheap hole saw set I got on amazon. I wont even link it because it sucked so bad. I drained three dewalt batteries cutting the holes, so if you have a corded drill...then buy a cheap hole saw set I guess

I used a 3.5 hole saw for it. very tight fit. I had to use scarp 2x4 and a rubber mallet to set them in place.

to start, I took the legs off and did some measurements to trim the leg supports down. I think i trimmed off about 1-1.5" off each end and it worked perfect.

Once the cup was out, I took the saw bit and pressed it onto the faux leather to give me an approx location on what extra material/foam to cut out....then I trimmed back the excess. I also took my shop knife and trimmed back any table cloth that was intruding into where the hole would be.

Now, I cut holes.

Once the holes were cut, thats when I started gently pounding the new cups holders into place.

reassemble legs, vacuum your mess and done.

Thanks for this! About how long did it take you?

I already have mine out - I used a small patch of Velcro on the cup and speed cloth to keep them together.

this 3 5/8 (92mm) hole saw seems like it would work? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08YJFNQR7?ref_=cm_sw_r_apin_dp_6WN1XW2VEWS5EK9M6N6J

I used this thread for cup holders and instructions. But I just cut 4 slits at the pleather in order to get the drill saw into the hole with the pleather around the saw bit, then drilled down through the padding then wood. I didn’t replace the felt.

Drill bits used below. Make sure to lengthen the pilot bit so that it bites into the wood before the saw bit. The 5/8 would probably be fine, the 3/4 left the hole a little bigger than the cup holder, but I just taped painters tape around the cup holder to give it extra thickness. Now it’s snug.

Took the legs off and cut about 1” off the ends with the pipe cutter. About 4-5 spins and it comes right off pretty clean. When putting legs back on, I moved the support brackets inward to get fresh wood for the screw to bite on

Took about 2-3 hours. If I can do it, anyone can do it. Good luck!

If I would have had a better hole saw kit (I bought some cheap $25 15 piece set on amazon) and a corded drill that I didnt have to worry about draining the battery...it would be have been an hour or slightly more. I had a jig saw with a metal cutting blade, to that took almost 5 minutes to make all four cuts. It took me closer to three because I had to wait for batteries to get a charge multiple times. and the hole saw was soooooo slow.

I bought these cup holders: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06W2JBLJJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
ANd used this hole saw: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0975KF1JW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

I actually installed them this weekend. Took about an hour to drill the new holes. The cups were just barely loose, so I added a strip of duct tape around the lower part of the side, and then it fit in nice and snug, no bracing needed.

I will point out that I didn't have a sawzall, so I had to use a dremel to cut down the table legs. That took a full hour in itself. With a sawzall, it would have taken a fraction of that time.

All in, it took a total of 2 hours and was a total breeze to do.

these are not jumbo size correct? so they really only fit bottles and cans?

I wonder if you stuck the cupholders in the freezer for a bit, if that would shrink them enough to make the job easier?

The pleather on the rail keeps tearing…I’m going to try to cover with some painters tape for the next one. 3 cups done.

Don’t start the drill full speed until you’re inside the cut out in the pleather. I only made that mistake once

Cut some 4 slits in the pleather first (perpendicular to the hole), then that gives enough relief to the hole to allow you to wrap the pleather around the saw bit. Then start to drill. The saw bit should not cut the pleather. I wrapped the saw bit with painters tape so that the pleather didn’t catch in the side walls of the saw bit.

One issue I see is that the lip of the new cup is much shallower than the old cup ie less room to “hide” the relief cuts underneath, making it harder.
Drill a pilot hole in the cup holder space from the top side then use that to line up your cut from the underside. Much harder to cut/tear the vinyl unless you blast through too fast.
Definitely going to try this, especially the four cups closest to the braces
