It is good to know that customs can actually take this long. I have received many packages from the US and it has never taken more than 2 weeks. It is annoying that I don't have any tracking info from the seller which makes me feel I am getting scammed. But hey if the chips show up then no harm no foul.

In fairness, if an iPhone sends "as text message" (SMS/green bubble) it will not report a 'delivered' status. This is an advanced function that is part of its MMS feature set.

Native iMessage (blue bubble) is MMS and requires a data connection to get the full rich text/encryption/functionality.

I think anyone not named @davin or @Mike mac can bow out now. Communication, however dysfunctional, has been established. (Yes I realize I am being a bit of a hypocrite here)

@Mike mac, @navels is right, it's not too late to do the right thing.

I think it is clear that @davin way over-reacted but that was equally matched by your over-reaction. We are all adults here, pay the guy and move on, this isn't something to leave the hobby over.

I hope they show up for you, good luck. The US to Canada tracking is usually pretty useless once the package gets to customs, it has been hit or miss for me (90% don't update until after the package has been delivered), but totally understand that it is better to at least have a tracking number so that you can see they have been sent! Could it be that he shipped it cheaper than he should have (which would explain no tracking info and the long delivery time)?

(Sorry for the side discussion, back to the OP topic, hope @davin gets paid!)

Yes I do agree I over reacted and I apologize mike. I don't want anyone to leave a hobby, I forgive you and if you want to clear this up I'll accept it, let's clear this up and move on

Yeah I just want to see a tracking number to verify something was shipped from A to B on the right date promised. The fact that the package has not showed up and this is the only shipment I have ever had without tracking seems a bad set of coincidence...

Or maybe not a coincidence if in fact nothing was shipped...

"Couldn't use my phone," eh? I could've seen that coming. Somehow you had no idea you'd be out of the country without internet access on the day you agreed to pay him. Or else you did know and arranged the payment for that date anyway. And then you somehow went two full weeks without internet access? No wifi, no one who could give you a hotspot, not a laptop you could borrow, nothing, in the friggin' United States? I've been in South America for over three months, and my U.S. data plan doesn't work here, but I've been online since the minute I arrived in the airport. The internet is ubiquitous.

Now you claim you're refusing to pay out of righteous indignation, because the guy you ghosted for two weeks responded in a totally appropriate way for someone who just got ripped off. But what it looks like to me, and no doubt the vast majority of anyone reading this, is that you had no intention to pay up—at least not in a timely fashion—and now you're grasping for any excuse whatsoever to get away with it. And you somehow think you can do that and still come away looking like the victim.

Just be a man and pay him his $200, Mike. It's not too late.

Even if this was the case, communicating to davin that you'd be out of contact for some time would have made this look less negligent than it appears currently.



Ceasing communication *(deleting your account) also makes you look more negligent. Think of someone being criticized on social media. If they have a valid point, they'll talk it out to prove their point. People who'd rather not listen to reason, will tend to just block the person who's criticizing them rather than lay out the facts to prove their side.

Not that I'm standing up for people that don't own up to their responsibilities ON TIME but I'm on speakout wireless and I always tell all the meetup hosts that the only way to contact me is by email and I only get that in the US if I can find a wifi source. Speakout wireless does not work in the USA AT ALL. As soon as I cross back into Canada I receive all my texts that were sent while I was away. I'm sure there is more than one provider that doesn't provide service to the USA.

What transpired is not ideal. The timing was avoidable. But some Canadians have offered an explanation for the radio silence. Square the debt and I doubt you will be persona non grata around here. But continue to avoid paying, especially after how out of control this has gotten, and you run pretty good chance of that.
 
Classic "victim" behavior @Mike mac - you not only avoid personal responsibility by failing to pay your debt, you then cast blame on the person who did you a favor by extending credit. Davin did nothing to you - you did it to yourself and he called you out on it.

If you wish to fix this, apologize and pay your debt. I am sure you will find that this is a very forgiving community - if you man up.

I generally have a "miss fact v get fact" ratio of about 7:1, so apologies. In the meantime, things have moved on...

I like this. Good for you. I have on a few occasions lent a little money to friends for bills. Was totally prepared never to see it again. Just felt helping out a single father with bills was a good deed. Each time they repaid with no issue.

There's a time and a place for lending money. In my opinion it should be for bills or necessities. And you have to be comfortable with not seeing it again. If not, don't do it. Sometimes people are in a temporary tight spot (divorce/separation/etc).

I know there is still a lot of good trust on this site. Like people shipping me chips (without me asking) and only giving me the total and their Paypal. It is a good feeling when people trust you that much.

I have only had good experiences on this site. I haven't had any negative experiences. In fact several members have gone above and beyond including extra chips, shipped/provided chips for free AND on two separate occasions I have had sellers who shipped later than expected include unsolicited extras to apologize (as well as communicating they were behind on shipping).

A BIG thank you to the members of the community who actually approach this site as a community (as opposed to a venue to buy/sell chips)!!

If for some reason mike doesn't think this will make it back to the chip board and anywhere else chips are concerned then he might want to rethink that.....chippers are a small community and there is a lot of crossover........and a lot of forgive and forget
