BEWARE - PCF MEMBER MIKE MAC (1 Viewer)

I've fallen for the "I get paid on Friday" story before (not on PCF, just generally). Never again.

If you're so assed-out that you can't scratch up $200 before your next paycheck, why should a stranger extend free, unsecured credit to you? You don't even have a friend or family member or anyone you could borrow from? A credit account you could lean on? Savings you could pinch for a couple days? That says a lot. And it's for a disposable-income kind of purchase like a set of poker chips—or even to buy raffle tickets for poker chips? GTFOOH.

The rest is all just excuses, AFAIC. The car accident, the bike accident, the chains of PayPal accounts, all of it. Just stories. I'd bet folding money that he can't use his PayPal account because he pulled some shenanigans with it or owes money he's refusing to pay.

Unless you legitimately trust someone on a friendship level, it's just not worth it. People like this are an absolute headache to deal with, and there's a good chance you will never see your money.

There is a way to go about outing a member when a transaction goes south. The original post was not the proper way to get to a resolution. The OP went from zero to flaming rage in 3.27 seconds.

You blew up his text over a weekend. He may have been out of town or was having a bad weekend. That shit looked kinda crazy to me but whatever. He didn't get back to you and that sucks.

At that point bring it up in a simple 'warning' post on the forum explaining the situation and the people involved. I wouldn't even use real names at this point. The point is to get their attention and let them know that their reputation is at stake. This is more important to most people than the relatively small amount of money involved and is generally more than enough to open the lines of communication.

You went full pitchforks and torches way prematurely and then seemed pissed off that everyone didn't have your back.

Another good reason why raffles should be gone. If he realizes that the raffle you ran was illegal in your state you open yourself up to legal action if you try to go after him in small claims court.

I hope you are able to get your money.

Besides the legal eagle stuff....raffles became (in some/most recent cases) a milking cow to sell coveted boat chips for unseen prices.
This is bad for the community since it prices up chips that could have been sold without the 400 - 1000% increase.

Not pointing fingers...but some GB-ers used this format to maximize value (with intent), much to the disgust of most GB-ers that did it for the chips, not the returns. This (and other issues) created much of the black/white approach regarding the GB.

Looking back at the original approach of raffles:
- create an equal chance for multiple buyers
- make once in a lifetime sets sellable
- have fun with vendors (like Tony did)

Not once the approach of profit was in play...things changed, so @Tommy took action (not sure if legal stuff was only reason)
I don't think we (as a community) should feel bad about it.

If I were in the situation, I'd just suggest them to bridge the gap by pulling some cash from the nearest ATM with a credit card.
Of course this is lame talking given it already happened. But in case there ever is a next time - before completely turning them down.

And just to be clear.... I like to be transparent :)

Multiple members gave me extra time to get my cash in line on crucial buys or bad timing of sales... thanks sooo much @liftapint @bentax1978 @ssanel54 for making my chipping life easy when I needed it. I did always pay on date like agreed.

Ps. this is not the complete list...just the most recent ones ;)

There are 2 types of people that owe you money. 1 guy will literally never pay you back and the 2nd type is just a flaky dude that doesn't really have his shit together.

In the interest of time it is helpful to figure out what type of person you are dealing with asap. The flaky type of person can often be encouraged to pay you back if handled correctly. IME the best approach is to offer some type of payment plant over weeks/months. For example, pay 20 dollars per week until the debt is repaid.

If you, as the lender, keep things cordial and the debtor refuses (or continually defaults on) a charitable payment plan then you know the money is gone for good.

Don't agree
Sometimes a sale (of specific chips) comes at bad timing or you just maxed out the CC / PP on other expenses.
You just need some time to get the money in place (by selling other chips, clearing CC/PP, ...)

Buyer or seller...i'm always open for a friendly question asked to/by members in good standing.
I'm not living from paycheck to paycheck...but sometimes it's hard to come up with 1 or 2K on the spot, since I would never want my family budget or savings be used to buy chips (no matter how awsome the chips are).

When I needed it...I never got 'no' for answer (but always made good like agreed) and it always created a special relation with seller.
For sure I'm looking out for members that did me a solid one

I am not talking specifically about chipping I am talking about life. Saying I will pay you 2k next week is not a bad debt that is just making a deal. I am talking about collecting bad debts when the borrower has already defaulted on the original deal in some way.

Sure, there are some people who borrow and pay right back. They are upfront about their situation and ability to pay, and they stay in contact.

Then there's this. "I'll pay you on July 27 when my check comes in." July 27 arrives, and the guy vanishes. Even if you can't pay someone back on the intended day, you say something. You let him know what happened and when you can pay, and you see if you can come to an agreement about how to settle it. You don't ghost the guy.

The fact that he did this is very revealing. We can see in this series of messages that he was already spinning ways to delay payment or excuses for why he couldn't make it happen from the jump, before July 27.

From the look of it, he went into it as a sort of freeroll. If he wins, he comes up with the $200 and gets the chips. (And would anyone be surprised if he sells the chips immediately because he needs the cash? I wouldn't.) If he loses, he tries to wiggle his way out of it or just disappears.

funny how he has no PayPal because he got scammed, yet he has the nerve to scam others!!!! Karma will kick in

I gave him a lot of time since he owed me the money, he has logged on PCF 3x since that date but yet to reply to me or my text or my phone calls so who's wrong here ?

I think the mods made appropriate edits of personal information, but otherwise, I don't think @davin is wrong in the slightest to decide now is the time to go open with this user.

Sounds like it's been two weeks of radio silence, not even "I need more time." He's at least owed an explanation, but instead he's been ghosted. I don't think there needs to be any half measures here.

Don't get it twisted man, I don't think anyone isn't on your side here in regards to the deal. You've obviously given him plenty of time to at least communicate, if not make it right.

You have to man up if you fed up!

I wish I knew he was a shaddy person as well. Now he will just prob make a new screen name and start from scratch since his personal info is not out there for others to see.... no one will know if they are dealing with the same guy on another profile

Hopefully to the members that attend his weekly game, they will face him face to face and talk him into doing the right thing , I hope he feels embarrassed in what he has done as well.

i have a situation where I fear for the worst. I paid someone 400 usd to harvest for me. He says chips shipped 4 weeks ago but wont provide tracking or any pics of the chips.

Not a PCF member AFAIK.

How did you find this guy to do the transaction?

I personally made the decision never to deal with Mike Mac after seeing multiple threads of his opened, changed and closed in the classifieds. I didn't like or trust the way he was using the lure of spotted birds to see how big of a prize he could catch...
Totally agree with this....just seemed sleezy. I think since we are cleaning up the classifieds we might as well figure out away to stop people from cancelling ads just to start a new one to make it appear that it's a fresh listing of the same overpriced/overvalued chips. Mike mac wasn't the only one to do this. I dont have a good solution but thought I'd put it out there

Well if he didn’t realize.. I guess you could take credit for informing him lol

this is why all payments should be collected before running a raffle, or shipping chips out. no loose ends to worry about. i see reasoning against raffles, but alas, could be reserved for those who have longevity and proper feedback from dozens of successful sales.

This is just common sense.

I understand OP not wanting to hold up the raffle for one payment, but I would have set a deadline and/or sold @Mike mac's entries if he didn't make the deadline. I would have made the rules clear that drawing takes place *after* last payment is received.

I totally agree and that is really my only problem with raffles (and it's a big problem for me)
