BUBBS' POKER DEN - CALI COLORS CASH SET (CPC B-DIAMOND) (3 Viewers)

So nice pictures, but lets keep the discussion on these in the new thread about 20th century paulsons here, its nice to keep it in one thread. Look forward to hearing the story!

Yeah, I missed these too. That set is spectacular, from top to bottom, and all the trimmings. Didn't know CPC had a blue that dark and rich. Nicely done!

Thanks Larry!! Yeah, that's a great Blue for sure, Retro Blue... One of my favorite CPC colors...

If I may ask @ChaosRock how much was this whole set, including artwork? Also, how close is the feel to your custom chips compared to Paulson's (weight, texture)

Hey Charlie! What @detroitdad wrote below your post... I had the artwork done and the exceptional J5 gave it it's final touches...

I've read many of your other posts and I assume you kinda got some feedback regarding CPC vs. Paulsons feel... ;)

Welcome to PCF man...

20th Century Paulsons!

These chips have a hell of an interesting story but @BGinGA should be the one to tell it

Wow these are spectacular. I'm really digging the pastels on these chips. I have a question for you guys, and it doesn't have to be just Mr. Tree. A lot of you folks have super nice chips. Do you guys play these chips regularly in your games, or are they more collectibles that sit on a shelf? I'm just wondering because at $3 to $4 chip for some of this stuff it seems a bit dicey to let folks spill beer on and man handle...

I'm not spending a grand on chips to shit on the shelf. The more play they get the better!!!!

If your group is spilling beer on your chips/tables/cards. Then I guess its time to break out the bat :)

Seriously. I have never had a problem using my chips. I can't wait to get them into play again :)

I know some people who refuse to put Casino sets in play, but I think most people who have customs have no issue with putting them in play.

Im 50/50 on whether I will bring chips to someone else's house. Depends a lot on the host, and which chips.

Just as a point of reference these chips belong to BGinGA, he was just gracious enough to bring them out to play at The Post!

I don't buy chips not to use them. I am sure there are collectors who would treat chips as museum pieces, but if I have a set I don't think they are happy unless they see play!

I feel the same way. I'm not big on collecting stuff per se. If I buy it, I'm going to use the ever loving crap out of it. That goes for everything ... my truck, tools, stuff around the house, etc.

I ask the question because some of these rare sets seem very hard to come by. Glad to see folks aren't treating them as museum pieces. They are poker chips after all and in my opinion belong in a game :D

Keep in mind unless you have an amazingly regular game your chips will probably be basically unaffected by play. You can probably use a set for a lifetime at home and come nowhere near the abuse casino chips see in a couple of years.

But yeah I have the same mindset. If I buy something that has a use I damn well intend to use it whether it is expensive or not. I think most of the people here have the same mentality. Bergs just sold his Dunes set because it wasn't given enough play and that is a poster child for chip sets where the individual chips are worth a fortune.

Although I cannot say that all of my mint sets have been used in actual play, that is due more to a case of no opportunity, rather than by design or intent. All of my chips were/are/will be purchased with the intention of using them, regardless of cost (with exception of single collector chips, but those are typically not in playable quantities).

Hardly any of my cash sets have seen play, mostly because my poker group rarely plays cash games. I was elated to be able to share the 20th Century set with fellow chippers at last year's meet-up at the Hitching Post.

I also have several tournament sets that have not (yet) seen play, but that too is a function of opportunity, along with having one or two 'favored' tournament sets that see regular use. It is certainly not due to refusing to put them into play as 'museum pieces' that need protection from the masses -- the cost and/or rarity of the chips have no bearing on whether or not they see table time.

I'm not spending a grand on chips to shit on the shelf.
Although I will add that most of my chips are housebroken. ;)

I mean, who in their right mind could have an incredible set like this, and then NEVER USE IT?? Not me......

What I find more puzzling is how @ChaosRock had the patience/focus to have awesome sets already, then make/oil customs awesome customs, THEN make/oil MORE awesome customs. How does one continue to make awesome things when other awesome things are already there, begging to be played with. How does one have the focus to say, "No, awesome things! Hold your horses! I must make more awesome things!"...and arguably out-awesome his original awesome in the process.

I'm not trying to be a sycophant here...you just crushed it w/the Bubb's set, and you did so while having some serious chip wealth already in-house.

Thank you for the very, very, very, very, VERY kind words Scott!! Much appreciated...

Many, many other chippers are on the same boat thought, including yourself! ;)

I am a huge Paulson and BCC fan and believe their feel/sound is a bit superior to the ASM/CPC's... However, customs gives us all the opportunity to create something totally new, to externalize our ideas and aestethics... It's totally addictive imo as one wants to keep putting new 'art' out there... Also, I've said that once, collecting playable sets is very unselfish and it's basically done to provide guests with an even better poker playing experience imo... But I digress...

Just a couple of words regarding putting sets in play: All of my sets were bought/made with the intention of putting them in play. No exceptions. However, just like @BGinGA , I haven't put all my sets in play yet... Realistically, some might never get to see the felt, and they'll have to go to someone who might actually use them more often at some point... Not sure how to do that though o_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

I play all of my chips that I can, with the exception of one set, Olivia's. The gift from my father that sent me down the road into chip craziness. It's just too special to me to allow a single chip to get chipped or go missing. But otherwise, play 'em!

Not sure how I missed this post either but far out, I always feel so envious after I visit one of Paulo's chip pr0n posts!!

Envious, yet inspired.. Putting an order in soon. Was going to be for 800 chips but now I'm thinking I need 1600!

Lovely chips, mate. Those quarters are to die for.

psssssst.............guess what guys/gals. I get to play with this set on SAT :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Can my starting stack include at least one 20.00 chip? lol

LOL. It's funny you ask as re-booking became an issue last night (details here).

Next question would be does my airline allow pets on the plane, as dognapping Bubbles would certainly be on Mrs. Bentax's agenda ;)

Mrs. Chaos might have something to say about that!! :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

Believe it or not, many airlines do not transport English Bulldogs... :( They do any other breed but EBs... I know that's the case with Delta for sure...
