CANCELLED: Group buy interest thread: Gemaco Superflex playing cards (2 Viewers)

Yeah I'ma fan of these. Love the deep red security ink and although the backs aren't "interesting" they're nice. Cards are thicker feeling than many others - I don't personally have a preference for that trait either way but overall quality is amazing.

Here's some in bridge size.

I much prefer poker-size, anyway - they're easier to shuffle when doing a proper riffle.

Bridge-sized, being narrower, are no more difficult to end-riffle, but they're harder to riffle properly... and when people end-riffle, the cards get a lot of bend. Bridging them helps reverse the bend, but it puts more wear on the cards and they don't last as long. (Also, if you're a pro dealer working shifts, end-shuffling also tires out your hands more.)

I really only want bridge-sized when I'm playing bridge or a trick-taking game - games where I need to hold and see 13 cards in my hand at once. And then, I wouldn't want jumbo indexes - you have to fan the cards too wide to see them all!

Yeah, I used to deal Gemaco Superflex in AC in the early 90's. Am curious to see if they feel "familiar" in my hands after all these years.

Also - in my ideal world, there would not be a white border. If the color runs edge-to-edge, it's easier to spot an accidentally reversed card. It's also trickier to mark card backs if there's no clean white edge.

The white edge provides better security against someone who can read which cards are rotated 180 degrees, which some can do... and some dealers are very consistent in how they shuffle. This can lead to an exploitable situation in games like baccarat or BJ. (White edges are also better for magicians, since it helps hide intentionally reversed cards!)

A lot of folks rave about Modiano Platinum Acetate

I hope they're better. I finally sprung for one set up of the platinum acetates...I can't tell any difference between them and regular Modianos. Wasted my money, really.

Question: how large is the jumbo index on the poker size cards? Is it comparable to Modiano, Copag, etc., or is it the "viewable from orbit" size that Kem uses? Anyone know?

Here is an image that shows the pip size in relation to the cards. It may not help much, but offers some perspective:

Thanks Dennis.

@courage , you have the Fournier/Congress bridge size cards in jumbo, correct? Would it be possible to get a picture of the Ace of Spades from the Fournier and Gemacos together to compare sizes?

Edit: This page on HPT seems to give the best comparison I've been able to find.

Can we ship to Canada?

Yes. I can check the flat rate ($24.95 to Canada) against a regular parcel and go with the lower-cost option.\

Even at 4 setups and this price, I think you'd still be ahead by about $10 from Kardwell's best price.

Know would shipping be for 16 set ups?

I don't have these cards, so I don't know their outer packaging total size, shipping weight, etc. The plan right now is to send them in flat rate boxes, as it's usually the most cost-effective way to ship, both in the U.S. and internationally. The sizes and rates for those are pretty widely known, and easy to find on the internet at USPS.com..

Four setups (8 decks) should fit into a small flat rate box, which costs $24.95 today.

A medium flat rate box holds up to 48 decks of cards comfortably, so it should hold up to 24 two-deck setups. A medium box shipped to Canada costs $45.95.

I hope that gives you some idea of what it might cost to ship these to Canada.
