Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (17 Viewers)

I love the Circas. I'll fight all of you.

Thcs are at most marginally better than rhcs.

Sets that mix denoms from different casinos are awful.

NAGB chips… There’s gotta be some funny business taking place to keep prices where they are. Collusion, price fixing, creating fake sales at bloated prices to trick people into buying more at “market price”… I lost my tinfoil hat so I shouldn’t say too much.

The majestic star low denom chips are in such bad shape Id be ashamed to use them in a game. They belong in a dumpster.
I will take any Majestic Star low denoms, the $1s are beauties

From the annals of Poker Chip Forum history, with credit to our esteemed and beloved friend Hammer2171:

Poker chips aren't like classic cars, or silver, or gold... they are f****** poker chips for crying out loud, with no actual cash value or "collectable value" that you supposedly claim maybe those very few rare ones are collectable, but for the most part, not really.

Low key have never felt CPC scrowns and now I’m curious, who’s got a shuffle stack I can test out?

Oh, and I’ll contribute as well….

-People who buy Abbiatis and other high end plastic chips are kidding themselves and only doing it for the name - they are literally the slippery metal “sluggos” that everyone complains about, albeit with a better finish and no flashing. But to say “ugh those entry level chips are too heavy with their insert” and then drop $2.50 a chip for em makes no sense. China clays and ceramics both stack much better than Abbiatis. And yes, I have minty shuffle stacks of Abbiati/Matsui/B&G that I’ve shuffled for hours and I stand by this haha
-Unless you’re a casino or card room the idea of “standard colors” is silly, especially if you’re a chipper. You’re going to be rotating sets all the time anyway, might as well use as many fun colors as you want.
-China clays feel better than ceramics. I like ceramics and have a couple sets, but they definitely feel less like a Paulson than, say, Majestics
-I’ve yet to see photo inlays I’ve liked
-I’ve yet to see oversized inlays I’ve liked
-PNYs are not good looking

( Plz nobody hate me  :ROFLMAO:)

If any of your regulars are accustomed to playing at casinos at all they will appreciate the standard colors. Plenty of fun to be had with color within the “rules”

still imaginary value, there're just more people buying into the delusion. industrial uses for gold/silver account for a tiny fraction of global demand (and by extension price). it's all about the bling bling mothafucker. and the banks/governments recognizing the stability of said demand for bling, and so using it as a store of value.

classic cars prices are almost entirely driven by the funsy happy explosion in old guys minds. they have less utility than a beat up ford escort.

You’d be surprised
Whatever you do, don't do a red frac while @detroitdad is drunk. He will toss them out every bet and yell FIVE DOLLARS!

The issue isnt remembering the new color, it's confusing a old color on a different set....

Btw @detroitdads own set has a red 25 cent chip.......

This is why people devote 26 pages to dialing in the exact color of the denom text on their custom chips - so people can READ them.

Ssshhh I have a Bud Jones set… :x

5) Photographs almost never look good on an inlay

... just in case there was any confusion about my post above, what I was trying to say was: "Yes, @Taghkanic , I agree with you that photos almost never look good on inlays. However, the context of the photograph, the inlay, and the entire chip matters a great deal as to whether or not the photo inlay works well. As a concrete example, here are @detroitdad 's justly famous Sunset chips, in which the use of photo inlays is a masterpiece. Notice how well they coordinate with the colors of the chips; notice how the simplicity of the design underscores the simple beauty of the photographs while allowing them to be appreciated in their entirety. A perfect counterexample to the otherwise correct principle that photos inlays are usually unattractive."

I wouldn't want my earlier terseness to leave anyone with a misunderstanding of my intended meaning.

No I don't. Sunsets have an orange frac

Honestly, I think you can get creative with some colors, but there has to be some ground for people to get it. I tried with the Cactus Pete's and I almost went too bold. The flow is easy to learn on the ones and fives, but the 20s don't hit the table enough to ground the set. I have a new frac I'll make someday that'll be a better fit I think.

My new set is alot more grounded, while being totally fooking nuts.

YOU MADE THE CLAIM ABOUT PLASTICS, SIR.

Have you handled those Abiattis? They're friggen awesome. I mean, not $2.50 apiece awesome, of course. But if I could get them for a buck apiece, I'd think about buying them.

I liked them alot, but something about them felt ..... Not quite right. Bud Jones so far are the only ones that really scratch that itch for me.

And the cards molds. For some reason, they feel great to me.

Yeah, at the end of that quote I mentioned I have a shuffle stack. I agree, they're cool chips and I'd pay a buck a chip for em! But people make the out to be the next best things to minty leaded Paulson's and say they stack like bricks, which hasn't been my experience ha. And I always just chuckle when people throw shade at 14g slugged chips but scramble for the Abbiatis.
