Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (29 Viewers)

I have hard and fast rule that the edge spots shouldn't take up more of the edge than the main color. So, yeah, you are wrong. LOL
IMO as long as the colors don't conflict with another denomination within a couple away, it's unique enough to not cause any confusion and perfectly fine.

8Vs are some of my favorites, but given spot shape, the rolling edge can generally be challenged to that point if not very carefully planned.

If spots are larger than the base, would they become the base? Ohmmmmmm.

Well, this is the conundrum with 1/2 pies (and 1/4 pies that use the same colours on opposite sides). Which is the base and which is the spot? They look to cover the same surface area when looked at from the side or the face (beyond the inlay).

The same illusion would happen if you had 3 single-colour spots of about 3/4" width, 4 spots of slightly over 1/2" width, or 6 spots of 3/8" width.

I don’t care how juicy the game is. If I have to listen to y’all yapping for an hour straight about your weightlifting routines or discussing your favorite Marvel movies, I’m racking the fuck up
Super interesting take. I’ll make fun of a group directly to their face about topics, but to rack up and leave based on conversation, that’s a lot.

I like to think I could fit in to pretty much any social setting, lifting or marvel for an hour wouldn’t phase me, those seem pretty innocuous. But if it’s not your scene I could see it be grating.

I think the one and only topic I couldn’t do would be politics if people are talking out of their ass. If they’re educated on specific topics, in the poli sci field, etc., then even politics wouldn’t bug me.

When our local group starts talking about/showing their watches and puts fast cars on the tv for background, it’s not my thing so I just find the other person at the table like me and roll our eyes collectively.

Edit - and actually, if you can’t find a single person at the table to roll your eyes with about the topics, because everyone is enjoying the topic, they may be thankful that the wet blanket is racking up  :ROFLMAO:

This is controversial takes though, so for me I say the post fits!!!

I was at a game the other night where, for the zillionth game in a row, three players were talking endlessly about their protein powders and supplements and arm length and back arching technique etc. Another guy and I started a totally inappropriate side conversation about [checks notes] POKER STRATEGY and the three meatheads actually asked the host to get us to stop. See ya

Actually not a fan of poker strategy at the table and I would much prefer players enjoying a social conversation of whatever the recs want to talk about. Regardless, neither would resort me racking up, although, I usually control the dialogue of any situation I’m in lol

lolz, I don't think I've ever heard someone ask a host to stop others at a table from talking. Idk if that's ballsy, ignorant, or simply socially inept. Not sure why they just wouldn't chat with you, although I've talked with some folks and people seem to agree that an abnormally huge % of chippers and poker players appear to be non normative or similar (akin to being on the spectrum).

Lol I just had to reread. That's crazy. I couldn't imagine. Asking a grown adult to shush another grown adult. :ROFLMAO:

Agreed. It's happened from time to time, generally when there's really green players at a home game reviewing how something went down and replaying a hand for suggestions or tips. Beyond that, I don't think I've ever seen a fun table discussing poker strategy, and generally have never seen fun (rec) players discussing either. Quick way to put the table to Zzzzzz's or or lose players to phones.

Oooo there’s the controversial question. Poker strat talk at table or naw? I bet PCF is pretty split on that.

I’m fine with working out or marvel, as long as you don’t talk too much into detail about work. Like I’m hosting this to get away from work, please talk about something else.

I don’t need to lift in a gym. I cut and move trees in the forest. These gym rats are building strength for nothing.
I don't know if it's "for nothing". I lift every single day and I know at 50 years old I feel 10 times better mentally and physically when I do. Lifting is the way I personally prefer to excercise vs other ways like running, biking etc Do i have alot of muscle...yes...do I 'need' it....no, but i would rather be strong than weak.

I will 1000% agree with you that it would be an extremely boring conversation. Certainly I would never disagree with u on that. I never ever...ever talk about that stuff and would find it annoying as well my friend.

I think we can all agree, no talking allowed at all at the table. The only noise should be coming from chip and deck shuffling.

quiet tim and eric GIF

I mean, I’m loud af. So zero complaints from me when a table texts the host to say I’m being too loud at the last meetup.

The absolutely bizarre part to me (besides them texting a host) is looking over at the table that complained about my noise, and almost the whole evening they’re both quiet and look like they’re having the worst time in the world playing poker  :ROFLMAO:

Guys, I promise I don’t bite. If you’re at a meetup, just tell me to shush, don’t bother texting the host who is busy hosting. #whythefuckarechipperssosociallyfuckingawkwardandincapable

(Edit - I also wasn’t THAT loud. They were getting like BarrieJ4 on a BarrieJ1 to BarrieJ10 noise level.)

I bet it was the hold 'em table.

Sooo... how much do you bench?? :ROFLMAO:
My brother routinely brings a grip strength meter with digital readout and sees what scores people can get at the poker table.

Beefcakes can get a score of 120. I was happy to crack 100. The recent liver transplant guy at my game only managed a 40.

Okay, you have officially hit my hot button issue. There is nothing I hate more than a player that insists on explaining his thought process on every hand regardless of... 1. whether he is in the hand or not, or 2. anyone asked his opinion or not. I feel like screaming "I HAVE PLAYED THIS GAME FOR A DECADE OR FOUR!!! FEEL FREE NOT TO EXPLAIN IT TO ME!!!!" But maybe that makes me the asshole, who knows?

I cannot believe some of the inane stuff people will talk about at the table. Stuff so obscure that only the two of you will have a clue what you are talking about. You do know that the table is a close environment, right? It's unruly to have 5 different conversations going on. Please, when at the table, discuss stuff that everyone can understand, not just you two freaks. Save the esoteric bullshitting for break.

I mean, who wants to listen to a discussion about the sound qualities of "Top hat and Cane" versus "Circle Square?"

 :whistling:

I'll push back and say sometimes it's fun listening to nerds talk about nerd stuff i dont understand. There is definitely an acceptable limit though
