Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (43 Viewers)

Disagree. The micro-stakes games (now 5c/10c) will also move up, maintaining the demand (and prices) for quarter and fifty-cent fracs.

Also disagree. I’ve been running a $0.25/$0.50 game with friends for 20 years. The stakes haven’t changed once in that time span despite the value of those stakes in real terms decreasing quite a bit.

There will always be people playing frac blind stakes IMO. Maybe on a very long time horizon but I plan to expire before that.

This is *exactly* what I was going to reply with. And penny poker players might even go to 0.05/0.10 and keep a few nickels alive.
Awww.... I was just going to offer him $1 a chip on all his fracs so he could get out before the market crashes. :(

Seriously, even if the use of fracs did decline, the chips would maintain value for the sake of relabeling.

Ok, back to being on-topic again...

I have enough chips.

$5’s make great nickels as $25’s make great fracs.
Lord I hope this is controversial, but unfortunately I don’t think so.

We lambast folks playing with non denom chips, but then come up with kooky rules to get other chips in play - “don’t worry about what the chip says, just pretend it’s something different!”

Naw, all you harrahs tournament owners, with miscolored misdenominated chips - congrats on having a flippable set, but that ain’t it homies.

Assembling killer sets is less impressive when your budget is unlimited
I’m confused, why?

Is the effort that goes into obtaining the set a primary factor in impressiveness? Serious question.

Actually here’s a part two. If you have someone with $20k to blow on chips because they’re generationally wealthy vs someone with $20k to blow on chips because they’ve been in the lab all year earning overtime, does one’s killer set impress more than the other? They spent two diff amounts of effort obtaining the same set…..

(I say this as someone without unlimited budget who thinks some of what’s been scooped up and created/murdered/labeled by our northwest whale is oooooooooogly. But I still think his pretty stuff is very pretty, overpaid or not)

I have a few racks of $5’s and because we’re a plaque game they stand ready for a micro-cash game/audition night.

Sort of same with my $25’s. When looking for HHR fracs they just weren’t there. Grabbed two racks of Capone’s out of Spragg’s vault and booyah.

I have a few non-denominated sets; my All-in’s (don’t laugh, they’re awesome and my first clay set back in the day) my DieCards which is also an amazing set, and a great set of Robinsonville Roulettes.

Oh and my two racks of BCC Cigar and Snifters ($25’s) are fracs as I pair them with a few racks from my limit set, the $1’s from an old Chipco set.

Yeah, I mix molds, sub out denoms, and intermingle materials.

Mr. Controversy.

And there’s the true controversial opinion. I love it!

But don’t worry, I’m with you I get it. Sometimes I drive a car without power steering or put a little ground up glass in my food because you’ll get soft if life’s too easy.

I think you should just toss all your chips in a huge bank bag and pull out 1000 randomly for game nights like drawing scrabble pieces.

(Edit - you’re prob still ahead of the rat rodders in my book)

Yes.

If you can offer anyone any price to get the very best, and exactly what best fits into your set, you don’t have to make any compromises.

You don’t have to get creative.

You don’t have to do the extra legwork to identify and find alternatives which you can afford.

Not the point I was making.

Ah understood. That makes much more sense to me now.

Why did I know I could count on you being in my corner. Lol

Does a $25 not say “25?”

And my wife would shit if I went looking for three racks of workhorses to get those cigars on the table.

We’ll break bread at a future meetup over this controversial matter.

A whole color palette of chips to choose from, I just can’t get there on 2 chips within 2 denoms of each other sharing that much of a hue.

Feels like I’m back in Glendale in the early 2000s where every Armenian was rocking the full color matching Sean John sweat suits.

I am color deficient and while I can tell the difference between pinks and reds when looking and trying they can be easily mixed up if I'm just glancing in a low light environment, which many of the home games I've played in have been.

That being said, I understand why a lot of people might do it, especially if you're trying to get those pink chips in play somehow.
