Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (12 Viewers)

I think we can all agree, no talking allowed at all at the table. The only noise should be coming from chip and deck shuffling.

Hard disagree on that one (unless I’m missing some sarcasm)…My main poker group is also my weekly Magic The Gathering and board game group, and we get pretty rowdy. We bump loud music, and everyone is talking and having side conversations unless it’s at a sweaty showdown.

Personally I can’t stand quiet tables unless I’m at the final table of a tournament, and even then silence will put me to sleep. I got into poker because blackjack had zero social aspects. If I want quiet, I’ll play blackjack heads up with the dealer or just stay home.

I think he was being sarcastic

Oooo there’s the controversial question. Poker strat talk at table or naw? I bet PCF is pretty split on that.

I don’t think it’s a simple yes/no question.

The guy who wants to debate every single hand he played, at length and in depth? Not very interested in playing with that guy. I’ve known a few.

Guy who want to occasionally discuss hands or general strategy, in a friendly and non-obsessive way? Happy to do so.

Ex.: The conversation I alluded to above was a general one about preferences for running it once, twice, 3x once you’re all-in. Not about any specific hand.

A few guys I play with regularly never run it more than once. Others are completely open to whatever the other player wants to do (me).

Then there are the problem people who think they are gaining some advantage by not running it more than once when they are ahead, and wanting to do it 2-3x when behind.

I found the conversation interesting, to see what drove other players’ preferences.

Anyway… If I play in a softball game, I expect some people will talk about softball. Ditto a poker game.

I’ve been told that a proper shuffle is silent
I was told something similar. I feel like I’ve developed a pretty decent shuffle over the years. But not long ago I was sitting next to a guy who’s been dealing forever and he was like “why are you killing those cards? Take it easy.”

This does bring up a rather interesting controversy. What is wrong with sometimes running it once, and on other hands running it twice? Nobody is gaining an advantage, but if there is an advantage my non-mathematical brain can compute, wouldn't you just use that as one more poker tool, like bet sizing or tells? People seem to hate the guy the offers it sometimes, and not other times.

Personally, I prefer running it once, but will gladly offer to run it twice if my opponent is new to the game, or risk-adverse and may not know about running it twice.

Lastly, I will run it twice, but 3x or more is just creating extra work for the dealer when chopping the pot.

The only time you shouldn't be running it twice is when you have very few outs.

picking and choosing is kinda being a dick tbh, you should always want to limit the variance. Running it 3 times is better than just once.

I partly disagree about blackjack. Some of the most fun I've had in a casino has been at blackjack tables where everyone is loose and rooting for each other, celebrating wins as one and with a dealer that's on our side. Hell of a lot of fun! But yes, without that, blackjack is for the suicidal

I don’t personally care and let people pick usually. I think the negative around the changing it is that if someone saw someone run it 3x all night with every other player, that may impact their decisions, ie maybe they know they’re behind but just barely with tons of outs and wouldn’t normally call 1 timers, but willing to get it in at 3x. Then bam, they show up and homeboy changes his mind.

I could see that ruffling a feather (at least in a home game).

Most people I run into prefer 1 or 3, because “there must be blood”. Splitting the pot means no one wins or loses.

My personal take is any odd number. 1, 3, 5, don’t care. We’ve run it up to 7 or 9 times a couple times on a rare occasion.

you can't run it twice in circus games, its already a split pot silly

Derailment but we run the river 2 times, add the points, face cards are 10 and the lowest value including ties go away
Have you tried double derailment single draw?

2 boards go away, and u can draw 1 card post derail.
