Ah, so you're saying you prefer bicycle playing cards. Duly noted....

;)

As far as the yellow boxes on the card faces go, my controversial opinion is that the only things that matter about cards are the stock and the pips. The backs? Couldn’t give a crap! The faces? I only look at the pips.
The only colour I care about seeing is a combination of all-black, all-red, or mixed pocket Aces or Kings.

That potato chip thread has me on the edge. You people with your hot spicy this and your jalepeno that. It’s almost as bad as the fancy microbrew hot sauce fad. WHY DO YOU WANT YOUR FOOD TO HURT YOUR MOUTH? Screw that. I’d like to actually taste my food and then go about my day, thank you.
I was going to complain, but technically this is a controversial chip opinion. Carry on.

I’ll preface this by stating that people perceive colors differently, so my view is obviously very subjective and I’m not poo-pooing on anyone’s set… But I dislike having cold colored (fully or very close to it) chips next to each other in a set’s progression. They kind of blend together too much. With warm colors it’s not much of an issue for some reason.

Empress Star cards mold thread got me thinking….

Cards mold chips that replicate clay sets and spots?

Emulating real clay chips and replicating interesting casino sets is the literal reason for the popularity of cards mold ceramics.

Glad that you are bored. It means you won't be taking up a spot in one of the dozens of group buys for these chips. They fill up way too fast as it is.

I can understand doing a tribute/replica set to a vintage casino that might be impossible to ever actually acquire. But I 1000% agree that cards mold of sets like Empress Star is boring, IMO. Now, if someone really loves that design go for it. I just think it’s a waste personally.

Doesn't hurt the mouth as much as the pooper

I have had several colorblind players in my game, and they mainly complain about warm colors like greens and reds. I guess there are several main types of color blindness so they must have the same variant.

I think this is best solved by alternating light and dark on adjacent chips — lighter base with darker spots next to a darker base with lighter spots. Inlay shapes and the much-maligned progressive spots are additional cues.

All taken together, this helps non-colorblind players avoid mistakes as well.

Agreed but cigar and snifter is even worse and I love cigars
No way! Cigar and snifter goes perfectly with poker. Do you have any idea how many people in this group drink bourbon and smoke cigars while out at a night of poker? Or at a PCF meetup? Can't remember how many weeks it's been since the last time I took my top hat and cane to poker night.

I'm a beer drinker and my two favorite beer glasses are very similar to snifters.

Green is still considered cold, but green-yellow is sometimes listed as a warm color, so it’s getting there. I can only imagine how difficult it is to keep track of chips for people with color blindness, so I totally agree that every little distinction can help. I believe the most common type is red-green color blindness, making the color wheel appear something like illustrated on the right.

I remember finding some sites where you could upload photos and simulate how they looked with various forms of color blindness… Will try to find one again.

Who drinks bourbon out of a snifter? You're thinking brandy, and what kind of douche drinks brandy at a meetup? :P

I'm not a big bourbon drinker, but a quick google search turned up several glassware options that are "similar" to brandy snifters. And as I stated, I have several beer snifters that I use almost daily. Just saying that in 2022 a cigar and snifter mold is much more closely related to poker than a top hat and cane.

This Kentucky Bourbon Trail Whiskey Glass is similar enough to a snifter, especially given the low level of detail on the edge of a poker chip.
