Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (11 Viewers)

Same colors: Mapes TRK $25 (w/ its goofy ass inlay) >>> Money Tree TRK $25

Location, location, location.

Some have the luxury of being in an area where there are multiple incredible sets, including some sets a lot of folks would consider grail-like, making it easier to buy local if/when a set or certain chips become available.

Conversely, some folks are in the middle of nowhere or perhaps in an area where there isn't a heavy chipping community. So, the luxury of buying "local," like I've seen @improviseallday advocate a handful of times, doesn't exist.
I live in Honolulu. There are no casinos here. Spinetti's doesn't even do free shipping to here. There's no buying local for me.

But good for the locals who do have cool chips right next to them.

Here's a controversial opinion:

I think thread crapping should be allowed. Limited to just one crap post per person, to keep from clogging up the thread. The owner could respond and the crapper would just have to stand by his initial post (or post a retraction).

If someone asked for an outrageous amount for a rack, the community could make it known to a prospective buyer that you might get these cheaper elsewhere. The seller could defend (It took me 30 hours and $900 at the tables to collect these!). Then only another PCFer could respond, not the crapper - and they would only get the one post to crap (Why should I be the recoup of your gambling losses).

If there are sufficient different posters telling the seller to bring down the price, they might actually do so (as opposed to weekly bumps for 3 months).

Community notes

I wouldn't kick either out of bed for eating crackers.

While the Money Tree gold inlays certainly don't photograph as well, they're pretty special in person IMO.

Biggest difference? One was completely hand-drawn (and a b/w photo negative used), while the other was typed on gold paper with a used 1954 Smith Corona.

The chips are great, but let's face it -- both inlays suck ballz.

Either one would get royally lambasted if presented for feedback here in the custom chips section.

While we are debating the sale of live chips for more than face value and new guidelines... how about one we have already?

Note, I don't care either way. I'm a free-market dude and I'm not in the market for chips priced like they are made of Superman's chest hair.

Couldn't you move the lock to the top of the handle and lift the box enough to get out one rack at a time?

Messy for sure, but it could be done.
Possibly, but the 14g slugged chips might make it quite the challenge. Buy a lock and some slugged chips and post a video. I'm interested to see. :ROFLMAO:

The modding is a thankless job, unpaid job, volunteers, etc. is a bs cop out. Not specifically for here, but anywhere.

PCF is a personal passion project enjoyed by many. It has grown exponentially and also built a sizeable marketplace, but the personal passion project aspect did not change. As previously stated by the mod team, this site belongs to one person and they can do whatever they want.

I get that Admins, Mods, etc. spend their time, money, and various resources into making this place what it is - that is amazing and very appreciated. It's no different than what many people do with their hobbies, passion projects, interests, etc.

That doesn't change the fact that moderation of member activity here is completely opaque and seemingly almost 100% socially engineered, dependent on reporting. And that the moderation supports and encourages that behavior.

This site is currently brimming and overflowing with examples breaking TOS, in both classifieds and not. People would be and have been dismissed from the site for doing the exact things that are currently on the first page of New Posts every day. It's only threadcrapping or violating TOS if the squeaky wheels decide it is.

I don't have any skin in game these days, I don't buy/sell or ever say anything towards classifieds/flippers, but I'll lolz all day at anyone saying that modding is effective, organized, useful, or based on any standard.

edit to say that this isn't a negative comment on moderating, it's just foolish if we gameplan around having something static or standardized, that's not what this place is.
Who started pcf ( why did they leave the blue wall / did they get shafted in the og nagb ? So said I’m starting my own forum?) honestly I never heard how pcf started when we had the same thing basically?

@Tommy started PCF, somewhere around 2013.

In 2014, the blue wall was in a state of disarray. A lot of technical problems that the administrator could not / would not deal with in a timely manner. People started having issues even trying to log in, hackers/spammers were starting to use it as a playground. Someone found PCF, and the "Great Migration" began.

Mystery box sales/auctions are no different than raffles and should be banned. Someone needs to protect PCF degens from themselves.

Scenario:
- take 10 SFRBs, fill 1 with super duper chips, fill 9 with rocks
- list all 10 boxes for auction/sale
- buying one of the SFRBs is no different than buying a raffle ticket

Hmmmm..... maybe that's the way to bring raffles back?
