Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (10 Viewers)

"Detroit quarters are not hard to harvest."

Scored 81 last night from one trip to the cage.

Took the dirtiest chips and hit them with dish soap and a quick toothbrush. Should clean up nicely after the ultrasonic. Left barrel, after cleanup:

Here's a controversial opinion:

I think thread crapping should be allowed. Limited to just one crap post per person, to keep from clogging up the thread. The owner could respond and the crapper would just have to stand by his initial post (or post a retraction).

If someone asked for an outrageous amount for a rack, the community could make it known to a prospective buyer that you might get these cheaper elsewhere. The seller could defend (It took me 30 hours and $900 at the tables to collect these!). Then only another PCFer could respond, not the crapper - and they would only get the one post to crap (Why should I be the recoup of your gambling losses).

If there are sufficient different posters telling the seller to bring down the price, they might actually do so (as opposed to weekly bumps for 3 months).

I would agree until someone thread craps one of my threads. Rule seems fine in theory but if it affects me or my sale in any way I'm against it. Rules for thee, ya know?

Very much agree with the general sentiment AND really like this suggested implementation. Though I’m not sure how it’ll be policed. Can a crapper say “I agree” with something someone else said or is that a second crapping? Does agreeing or adding onto someone else’s crap make one a crapper or can you still crap on your own?

Believe that secondary crap is still crap, rectangles and squares.

Just checked... it's cheaper to fly from Honolulu to Detroit and back to pick up a rack in person than it is to buy casino used in the recent listing. Another two barrels pays for the hotel for the weekend.

Definitely a good opportunity for the locals, no airfare required.
Yeah, but that means you have to go to Detroit.

Mods police thread crapping now. Do it and get warmed/post gets deleted/account suspended.

It would work the same way. You're allowed one. Then other users (likely the OP) can report the second crapping and the mids can take action.

In theory, I like the idea of allowing anyone to post relevant, factual information in a sale thread: this $1000 rack is available here for $300, etc. Even as a seller, I would appreciate it.

In practice, this would be a moderation nightmare. Way, WAY too much effort needed to fact check and prune threads.

You're kidding right? Classifieds are getting hammered and crapped on left and right site-wide. Spam posts. Threadjacking with memes and gifs everywhere.

Specific people will be reported by specific people and those specific people would be modded sure. But it's very obvious that none of that is happening now, it's the wild west and absolute shit show.

First I’ll say that, in my opinion, trying to police pricing is pointless. But since we’re trying to find a solution to the alleged piss taking that’s taking place in the classifieds…I’ll add this: allowing thread crapping as a way to police pricing is absolutely ridiculous.

I also think it’s important to remind everyone that it’s not because you don’t agree with a price that your price is the correct one - so why do you think your opinion matters more than the next guy? Also it’s not because a chip/barrel/rack doesn’t sell immediately that it is overpriced. That’s nonsense.

I know this is going to be difficult to implement but if you were to force sellers/vendors to show a two way price (a price at which they buy or sell said chip/barrel/rack in a certain quantity) with max bid/offer of 10% of the listed price now you might see a correction in asking prices.

I might try that with some chips that I have listed recently but haven’t sold in less than 10 minutes. I’ll let you know how it goes

remove classifieds altogether. remove PM's. this way only friends can sell to each other (txt message; you wouldn't give your number to someone you don't like, would you?). senior members can't rip off newbies this way.

only way to sell publicly is through auctions, with no reserve pricing. Bids do not bump the thread. If you want to sell immediately, ie in a week, you risk selling the chips for like $10 because no one wants to bid. If you want to squeeze the max, set the auction to a couple months to give buyers a chance to set prices.

let chaos ensue :cool

At this rate we should just buy the chips locally

Applications for mods are in the first drawer on the left.

Wait.

Nevermind.
The modding is a thankless job, unpaid job, volunteers, etc. is a bs cop out. Not specifically for here, but anywhere.

PCF is a personal passion project enjoyed by many. It has grown exponentially and also built a sizeable marketplace, but the personal passion project aspect did not change. As previously stated by the mod team, this site belongs to one person and they can do whatever they want.

I get that Admins, Mods, etc. spend their time, money, and various resources into making this place what it is - that is amazing and very appreciated. It's no different than what many people do with their hobbies, passion projects, interests, etc.

That doesn't change the fact that moderation of member activity here is completely opaque and seemingly almost 100% socially engineered, dependent on reporting. And that the moderation supports and encourages that behavior.

This site is currently brimming and overflowing with examples breaking TOS, in both classifieds and not. People would be and have been dismissed from the site for doing the exact things that are currently on the first page of New Posts every day. It's only threadcrapping or violating TOS if the squeaky wheels decide it is.

I don't have any skin in game these days, I don't buy/sell or ever say anything towards classifieds/flippers, but I'll lolz all day at anyone saying that modding is effective, organized, useful, or based on any standard.

edit to say that this isn't a negative comment on moderating, it's just foolish if we gameplan around having something static or standardized, that's not what this place is.

i will say i prefer buying locally, feels more like chipping than constantly refreshing pcf and getting that instant gratification of sending random internet people thousands of dollars.

before I get flamed, i actually don't think classifieds or pm's should be removed lol. I do think classifieds need to be revamped somehow to see prices and price history easier. one can dream.

I'm waiting for the new implementation.

i will say i prefer buying locally ...

Location, location, location.

Some have the luxury of being in an area where there are multiple incredible sets, including some sets a lot of folks would consider grail-like, making it easier to buy local if/when a set or certain chips become available.

Conversely, some folks are in the middle of nowhere or perhaps in an area where there isn't a heavy chipping community. So, the luxury of buying "local," like I've seen @improviseallday advocate a handful of times, doesn't exist.

The bottom line to me in a collection hobby -- or any hobby or life, for that matter -- is beauty forever remains in the eye of the beholder.

I get there are folks who would prefer to spend no more than $400 on a set of chips, but there are others who don't mind snap-buying/dropping $5K-plus on chips they want when they become available. Totally get it and whatever approach a hobbyist takes doesn't mean one or the other is correct. To each their own, in my book. And whatever the price for either the sale or purchase, it shouldn't encourage what the kids these days call "subtweeting" about a sales ad.

Hell, just tag the person in one of these thread if someone has an issue or either PM, text or call (if you have a cell number), eamil, send a smoke signal, Morse code, etc.
