Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (11 Viewers)

I don't really care, would just be nice to stop being swindled by a "community".
You really think that’s a problem? That people are being swindled because we don’t have official condition rating standards?
I disagree. I’m not sure how much lying/misleading about condition actually goes on in our classifieds, but I have to think if people are lying without formal condition standards, they’d lie with them too. Are we supposed to ship our sets off to PSA to have them graded?

I am totally with you regarding the ineffectiveness of our seller/buyer rating/feedback system.

I think in summary, I'm just a lazy, bad chipper. I'm meek, I don't like to PM, I don't like to ask for more pictures or descriptions, I feel horrible when I ask for more photos and then don't buy the chips because the condition isn't what I want/need, etc. So I'm a buy and pray person lol.

I don't think I really care anymore, I haven't bought a chip set in....a long time. I've emptied all the coffers and only own the Paris and IGs which were bought quite some time ago. This is now a somewhat social thing, but color me curious as to what this place is in 10 years. At some point, I'm guessing there has to be a shift and recognition that this is a hobby and a marketplace, two distinctly different but intertwined aspects. And with that shift, comes some monetary changes where it's no longer free to play, because volunteers can only do so much. I believe that eventually everything being opaque, enforcement of TOS being different each year, etc. will either need to change and be more standardized or PCF will become a tributary and second to a primary site for chippers.

I don't want to be in the room where it happens, but I do think it's a fun use case and cool to think about all the directions PCF may be taken and end up.

I think PCF should have separate classifieds for ceramic vs clay chips.
Not controversial.

Here's something controversial. I don't think resale of any fake RHC, scrown or MGK chips should be allowed in the classifieds at all. They should only be able to be sold to and made custom for members here to keep.

Sale of stock designs from vendors is fine, as long as the stock designs are not an exact copy of the real thing.

Example: fake scrown Trops = bad, fake MGK Trops: fine

Fake scrown Capital Rooms fine. Fake MGK Capital Rooms bad.

These new ceramic hybrid molded chips can be awesome and a great cheaper alternative for those that don't wish to splurge on clay. Don't fuck this up.

Of course good pics are vitally important. But I think what he was saying is that the seller who also provides a verbal description is probably the more honest seller.
Totally agree
That's why I want both. Pics and the seller's description of condition.
yes - totally agree as well.

I am certainly not suggesting just pics with no description.

I was being a bit tongue and check to say if I could only have one, I’d rather have pics.

But, both IS the way, for sure.

For sure. I realize that. I was more referring back to the first hot take in this series that was implying that just saying "look at the pics" opens the door to potential dishonesty.

House mold >>>>>>> THC >>>>>>>RHC >>>>>>anything else

Mixed sets >>>>>>> single casino >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> any set with "inlay replacement"

With a few exceptions* live chips should not cost more than 30% above face. There's a justifiable premium for some chips for the work of harvesting them but live chips should not be 100s of times face. As a community we should put pressure on this behavior and change the norms around pricing live chips.

*I think there are some obvious exceptions like a mint rack of a chip that has been in play for 15 years and just isn't available at condition that should apply some reasonable upward pressure on price but new chips from new casinos....

So you don't want to pay $1000 for a rack of fracs? Yea me either.

What live chips command more than 30%?

It depends on how hard they are to get.

- If it's a popular destination and all you have to do is walk up to the cage, the premium will be low.
- If it's remote and you have to play blackjack and harvest one by one, the premium will be higher.
- If they are fracs, the premium will be higher.

That premium is set by us, talking like its Starbucks policy or something lol.

My rack of Ballys I paid double face value was a steal by todays listings lol!

Guy guys guys, this is controversial opinions thread.

If you are looking for the “I’m not allowed to threadcrap so instead I’m going to complain here about a specific users actions but be too chicken shit to tag them” thread, that’s the Bullsh*t thread.
Given the frequencies that I see people listing live at insane prices and people buying at those prices it seems like it is controversial to some. I’ve had this discussion in PMs with people for ages. It’s not spurred by recent listings. Though those, and the people slobbering over them, did give me the drive to post

The premium is set by buyers deciding how much a chip is worth to them.

If there's a buyer at the price listed, I don't understand the issue.

Even if there is not a buyer at the price listed, I still don't understand the issue.
