Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (14 Viewers)

Put me in team controversy.
I don't get it. Single colour, and fnd it hard to see the hot stamp material unless the light is just right. They look boring to me.
But... am truly happy for others to enjoy them.
Seriously? How often do you really need to read the denomination on the chips? Especially when they are standard colors. You can't memorize that blue = 25 cents and white = $1?

The appeal of these chips is the buttery leaded, perfectly broken in goodness. And there is nothing boring about the colors. Those Day Blue quarters are gorgeous. The $1s may be a bit boring, but most white $1 chips are, and the rest of the set makes up for them.

Perfect thread for my post then :D
I also don't like white wine, tropical humid climes, or small dogs.
I'm glad you like hotstamps but just they don't appeal to me.
Can one murder a hotstamps and replace with an inlay like-sticker?

@Josh Kifer exists for this very purpose.

A home game does not exist solely to make money playing poker. It's a social engagement. You're there to spend an evening with your friends playing poker, chatting, drinking, or whatever. When I go to a home game, I play until the game breaks up, or until I bust out and have lost whatever predetermined amount I came to play with. If you go to a game without the intent to stay until it breaks, then you let the host know.
Yeah I’m mostly with this. When people come to a game, they want and expect to play with a fullish table. If you lose one or two early, it stinks. I don’t expect everybody to stay til the sun rises, but I think you gotta put in four hours or something like that. We’re all in it together, right?
But on this topic, I’ll make a confession. When I was new and nitty, I went to a home game with like a buyin and a half. And I milked my last 50 bigs for like the last two hours. That’s just nitty and it stinks. But there was a guy who came in and was waiting for a seat for like 90 minutes. While I was nitting a stub. That’s bad, but I didn’t quite get it at the time.
Anyway, live and learn. I’ve been pretty lucky as a host to have great players. And it’s helped appreciate and understand how to be a good guest.

That's not what I mean. I'm talking about 8 players committing to come to a game that starts at 7:00. And it's now almost 8:00 and only 4 have shown up... GRRRRRR!!!

Late arrivers are impacting the fun for everyone else who was planning on a full table. And in some cases, the host may have said no to someone else who wanted to be there because you thought you had a full table.
Four or fewer? Try Open Face Chinese Poker with only the 2x sweep bonus at an appropriate per chip value. Kinda like limit.

controversial poker opinion: it feels either icky or boring to “lock up a win”. In a casino or any non friendly scenario, I would much, much, much rather hit and run. Not sure why that’s so bad regarding unspoken rules, why do I have to sit there and waste both yours and my time?

In a home game, if you’re someone that “locks up a win”, I may enjoy you and your company outside of poker, but we likely have far different values and reasons we’re playing at that home game.
I am with you on the casino front. In fact, I rarely sit at a casino table more than 2 hours, and sometimes 1 hour is plenty. My mind just loses focus, and I start playing like a tourist.

I'd much rather play my "A" game and leave early and up than donk off my stack because I'm playing like a donk-bot.

In home games, it's different. Stakes are typically lower, and it's no longer about money and more about hanging out with friends.

Aw, I miss those! I guess I don’t hate spotted hot stamps, ha!
Yeah I don’t know what I was thinking, talking trash about spotted hot stamps. Kessler recently posted this and it made my heart flutter (even though they’re beat to hell) Maybe I just like big bold simple spots on hotstamps.

Wait -- what?
It felt like a trolling comment. Like, why would you have that opinion unless you're getting joy out of everybody else's misery that they can't buy Paulsons? I don't get it. I mean, I don't care for plastics, but I'd never even think "I'm glad they don't sell bud jones to the public" - that feels sociopathic.

I understand that. It’s also frustrating doing with three yes and six maybes when our group, we usually provide a dinner.

But I always love it when a game is going on for a few hours and somebody is able to have a friend drop in

it's totally •awesome• that Paulson doesn't sell to the public

Yeah when you had NPS and WTHC at $1.20ea easilly available in several online stores and now you have Paulson classics aka "the shitters" at $18.95ea.. It's totally awesome....

Watching all those domestic Paulson chips at $4 or $5ea now sucks hard.

Right now I’d say it’s Paulson classics. Worse mold and weird plasticky feel but $18/chip.
In all fairness, the Classics, in large part due to the inlays, have long been the consensus ugly step-child of the Paulson fantasy lineups. One moron asking outrageous prices for his set doesn't change anything.
