Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (12 Viewers)

1) Denominations are unnecessary for home sets unless your regs’ average IQ is below 70

2) Ceramics are all garbage

3) Ditto all house molds

4) Collecting singles is good therapy for OCD sufferers, and nothing else

You didn't say anything about plastics, so here's a nice set for you that meets all your requirements.

And sometimes people like to act like they’ve increased the value of the casino chips, by tearing the inlays out of them - that one cracks me up.
Ultimately it seems harmless when people do it to mass chip room release chips or to NAGB chips which were often created to be destroyed. But it definitely makes me wince when I see people drilling the lead out of rarer older chips, especially when they just turn around and resell them.

Agreed that murdering rare chips makes no sense.

But I disagree that non-rare murder does not add some value, at least for some potential buyers. If I could have found several batches of pre-murdered THCs (in usable colors, and good condition) to include in my custom set, I would’ve snapped them right up and skipped the complications of homicide. (“Dammit, where’s my bleach and my shovel?”)

That said, if someone has replaced the inlay, the replacements are not necessarily that much easier to remove than original inlays. Found that out the hard way.

More controversially... The murder rate might be lower if there were not a vocal contingent of longtime chippers who look down their noses at overlays and make overlay owners feel that anything less than full replacement is infra dig. /ducking

I’ve done some overlays, with mostly excellent results. They’re not quite as elegant as well-done full replacements, but I guarantee you none of the regs in my game would ever notice the difference (sad emoji).

"Oh shit, the chips say how much they're worth!" -Good friend, 1.5 hours into playing with my new customs.

Yeah, that was part of my (very old, pot-stirring) arguments about denoms. Almost no one reads them. After any confusion during the first few orbits with an unfamiliar chipset, they use colors/spots/sometimes sizes to recognize value, not what’s printed on them.

Newbies still ask the value of chips *regardless of whether it is stated in type on the inlay*.

Of course when I made my own full custom set I did include denoms (except on my fracs so that their value could be flexible).

So, fuck that Taghkanic guy.

The sad thing is that we 're getting old, so I have to say what value each chip represents, despite them being denominated, with the exception of the frac.

No possibility for normal index cards to ever be played with.
Jumbo indexes only, ideally 4 jumbo indexes (which requires a "poker"-wide deck). :)

Thought this thread needed goosing.

I did a quick search and I didn’t see this stated explicitly, so I will do so now. For most of us low stakes pikers a barrel of fracs is the right amount no matter what you efficiency nazis or clean table top fascists say.
A barrel each, or total for the table?

"Here's one for you, one for you, one for you, one for you, one for you, one for you, one for you, one for you, one for you, one for you, TWO for you, two for you, two for you........
This is exactly how a friend of mine started to pay out a split pot once, before we politely intervened.

Damn right! It needed to be said! My next cash set is going to have 200 fracs JUST to put people on tilt!! LMAO

I don't know if this controversial opinon has been posted in this thread but:

Paulson RHC mold SUCKS.
I'd rather have a mint RHC set with nice colours and spots than a blah worn THC set.

But very worn RHC is the worst. So slippery and unpleasant they are even worse than plastic chips.

Look at this nonsense. Not going to out the original poster but just reading those sentences together.... they're lucky the real KGB no longer goes after people for their opinions!
