Hourglass chips are quite light. It's all matter of taste and feel, but I would choose between A and FDL.

As many of you know I'm currently in the process (well, waiting for J5 anyways) to place my order for a custom CPC set. Over the last few months I have emailed cpc several times with rookie questions pertaining to an order. They always answer me within 24 hours. Usually it is the same day that I emailed the question.

For me, dropping 1k on a chip set is a pretty big deal. With the customer service that cpc brings to the table it definitely helps alleviate any fear that I have that this will be done right.

Anyways, I just wanted to give them props.

Thanks Dave.

Can anyone give me their opinion of the Hourglass mold? I have a complete sample set I'm borrowing from Tommy but there is only one hourglass chip. I'd like to know thoughts on how they shuffle, sound, stack etc.

I agree with both assessments below. It is by far my least favorite ASM/CPC mold, based on both looks and feel/sound. Just feels very 'unsubstantial' and cheap, and the design is way too busy imo. If it were the only mold they offered, I'd pass on customs (and I have similar issues with the E&C mold, for the same reasons). However, some people love one or the other, or even both. YMMV. Get samples (like a stack or more) before you commit hundreds or thousands of dollars.

I thought the hourglass mold felt like a cheaper version of the a mold if that makes sense. For some reason they just felt lighter and more brittle.

Could PCF sponcer (sic) a new color?
I'd chip in for it. Blaze Orange ("PCF Orange") would be 'on brand'

I'm over the top happy with what David and CPC offer at the moment. But would love to see a brighter slightly darker light blue than what there is now. Like what dg tiger did for the orange range.

DG Blue would be sooo marvellous, if available sometime in the future.

CPC has been killing it since David took over. I would love some better blues though. They need a killer color in that spectrum.

Day-glo blue.... all that's really left remaining in the bright color spectrum. All the other primary colors have three solid choices (medium base with light/dark spots, or light with medium/dark, or dark with light/medium). A pretty, bright, day-glo sky blue.

EDIT: Dunno what the development cost would be for a new color, but I'm willing to pitch in to a PCF color fund to help make it happen.

I'm not even sure how much is "development costs" and how much becomes "waste".

As I understand it, CPC makes batches of a color, then just uses it up. I suspect that once a batch is made, it has an expiration date before it dries out and becomes unusable. Since a new color probably won't drive sales beyond the initial offering, the extra option just means other colors won't be used and will expire.

But if I'm wrong,(and I usually am when dealing with incomplete information) DG blue would be awesome, and the start to a CPC cash set that I don't need.

The only info I got separately from David was up to $2k for the dye costs alone. He said stability of colors (ability to reproduce consistently/accurately) is difficult, so prob incurs more time/cost.

That said, I'm still in for a DG Blue (or sherbet green!) GB if it happens!

This is such a great way to put it. DG Tiger hit that sweet spot between DG Peach and DG Orange. Would love to see a similarly situated Blue.

I'm not sure if they CAN expire eventually, but I do know that with the quantities involved, "batches" of colors can and have been in use for 20+ years. That's why some of the old colors have fallen by the wayside or had to be re-formulated (i.e. "New" pink) - the previous batch was so old, the same dyes/pigments used when it was made are no longer available.

As I understand it, new colors happen pretty much by accident - they're trying to make one thing, the mixture is a bit off or some other variable is slightly amiss and they end up with another. Sometimes that "another" is something people might like, sometimes not. Intentional "development" of a new color would consist of basically throwing random formulas/mixtures at the wall and seeing what came out. It's more complicated than that but I think that's the general idea, and with the quantities and costs involved, that sort of thing would be fairly cost-prohibitive.
