CPC Set Under Construction -- Pillage & Plunder (1 Viewer)

P&P2.jpg
Revisions received although we had a miscommunication somewhere as I do not want P&P in the banner and I want the banner at the bottom :)

I think I am ready to give up on the "fade" concept... worked better in my head months ago than it does on the inlays. I am currently liking the middle two chips aside from the banner being in the wrong place.

Still don't know what I am going to do with the $5 yet but I feel the rest are fairly close to where they will end up.

Personally I feel the $5 doesn't fit the rest because you others are using bright and contrasting colors. The butterscotch base doesn't fit as well. I would use a brighter yellow base and darker spots.

I think a bit of that has to do with CDT colors... when handling samples it seems brights would pop quite well off of butterscotch. And the first thing I was sure of when I started designing was wanting a butterscotch base on the $5 so don't crush my dreams :)

I like the two middle chips too. Good choice on dropping the fade. I don't mind the banner at the top.

For the $5, I think simpler is better on a vintage feel set - maybe a 312 with alternating color spots

I definitely like the butterscotch base for the $5.

I get you what you mean. I love the marroon/dayglo peacock. I think its the retro red throwing things off a bit.
I actually switched the retro red to red last night and I like it better. Must have forget to save it.

I mocked this up at work. Didn't have time to upload it. I like it a better

It's really starting to come together! The "G"s in the bottom middle and bottom right font almost look like "O"s (e.g., "OIVE NOTHINO BACK"), so keep an eye on that. I think I like the black text in the top row more than the negative white text in the bottom row. It's close. Agree on letting go of the fade. The $5 reminds me of a piece-of-8, so I like that it stands out. I'm a fan of the butterscotch, and don't recall seeing another chip like that one. Would like to see the upper middle chip with the correct banner position, but would try adding a bit of banner + skull contrast. Not quite as contrasty as the upper right, but not the no-contrast of the upper middle.

Edit to add: I think a second skull contrast and a third banner contrast would help each stand out from the background, and liven up the inlay.

Edit to add more: The left font is more appealing than the others, but the kerning seems off (e.g., the near merger of the K and E in TAKE). Might need some manual adjusting of that font to sharpen things up.

I have always liked the black label when it works, and it works WELL here...Bottom middle vote.on post 31

These look great. My thoughts
1/4 rotate the spots so that they are the same as #41
$1 and $5 rotate the spots to 1:30;4:30;7:30;10:30
^^^^this gives an "X" look also mimicking your crossed swords as well

Here are some quick mocks of the $5 I threw together quickly

I wasn't quite sure what you were looking for so these are a little all over the place....but maybe thats a good thing......

I actually really like the $5 too. makes me think of buried treasure.

edit: I keep getting the denoms messed up

Can you provide a key to the values for the latest layout options? I think I'm missing something from the comments above.
  • Quarter = Tampa Bay Bucs Colors
  • Blue =
  • Whilte =
  • Tan/Green = $20?
  • Greyscale = $100?

Didn't have a reasoning behind them except the $5 as an alternate version of the Cali colored mockups blood-in-the-water single and the $100 being basic pirate black and white. It was a 90 second project heheh

So the White is the latest $1, and the Blue/Maroon is the $5 in the latest, got it.

TB Buc Quarter: I'd rotate the orange 45 degrees to the top/bottom of the chip. It seems crooked right now. By rotating it, the main chip color will be offset from the green on the $20. I think that will go better.
$1, White: I like the butterscotch varieties better as a $5, and the blue chip as the $1.
$5, Blue: I really like the blood/water chip, expecially your angling the edge spots. Strong! Stronger if it was a blue $1 chip.
$20, Tan/Green: I also like where this is going. I think there's more to squeeze out of this one.
$100, Mono: I preferred the original white/rainbow $100, or a variation off of that.

Any new inlay mockups? I'm thinking white for the skull, and light gray alternated with dark grey for the banner and background (try both combos and see what works best). Would like to see latest fonts too!

Yes, sorry... mockup was in order .50/1/5/25/100.

This really wasn't the "latest mockup", just wanted to play around with standard white/red/green/black. I am still planning on Cali colors. Per the spots orientation... this is something CPC does? At what cost?

Haven't gotten anything since post #41:
P&P3.jpg

As of now he is going to play with the N's a bit in the title font so they don't stick above the rest of the lettering which will enable him to go a little larger. I've also asked to see some alternate colors on the text/banner/skull. Minor changes to the font (like the scrunched up Gs) will be cleaned up later on. I am finding myself torn between still using the two different colored labels or going with the same color on both sides.

Don't give up on butterscotch
I haven't :)

Tweaking...

I liked the full-blown maroon/peacock enough in my standard colors mockup to try changing all spots to maroon in this one. Changed colors a bit on the $5, $20 and $100 as well.

I don't know about the spot orientation. I would think it's feasible at CPC, but don't know that process. I like the angled edge spots from the previous maroon/peacock better, and happy to see return of butterscotch! Feels like the 20 needs different spot progression than the 100

Pretty surprised @Mental Nomad hasnt already mentioned it.

Because the idea of calling it a "bit" when it's really a half, and not an eighth, would tilt me. ;)

It would be cool, thematically, given that the Spanish Dollar, the "real de a ocho", was an 8-real coin. That's why it was called called a piece of eight - it was was one piece, but worth 8 reals.

I do love the idea of using bits in themed sets like this one, but if they don't play very low stakes, the frac just isn't useful.

Also, high-value coins (where the value was the metal) were sometimes cut in half... and the halves cut down to quarters... and the quarters cut down to bits. So a bit of a coin was 1/8 of it:

Don't let that idea get into anyone's heads when making change with your chips, though...

Love all the ideas you're developing here man... Regarding your latest mock-ups, just something you might have noticed already, in stacks, your ¼ Pie chip, your $5 and $20 all have an orangy shade... They are different enough but still could be just too much one tone in stacks... The only two colors outside of the orangy ones are Charcoal on the ¼ Pie and Black on the $20 and those usually don't create a lot of differences on the chip but more of a darker/lighter effect...

Now I gotta say, the below mock up is among the prettiests chips I've seen... It even gives me bad ideas about a set with a ton of those to play NL $1/$1 with $1s only... ;) The chip, with the lighter inlay, is PERFECTION in my book!
