My father in law lived with us before he passed 8 years ago. Each month we receive a bill for $0.52 in his name from an insurance company. It’s been 8 years now and still we receive the bill- we have called, but it doesn’t seem to matter. Oh well.
At this point, I wonder how much they've spent trying to collect that $0.52.

-EV, maybe.

However, if they sent a notice every month for 500 years, it would still be under $8000. Eight grand is nothing to an insurance company over 500 years. On the other hand, paying a programmer to fix the code would exceed $8 grand, and in the process that programmer would foul up something else in the code.

Probably still less than $100, but now it's like a little visit from Richard every month. My wife and I are curious what his credit rating is.

Yes he voted for Biden.

Sure, if it's one invoice then yeah. But hundreds or thousands of them start to add up.

As a programmer, I resent the implication that we can't fix bugs without creating new ones.

It's true, but I still resent it.
