eBay is filthy with Cleveland Horseshoes (2 Viewers)

Pretty funny actually, I joined in May of this year and there was no way I was spending $500+ on a set of chips, just not feasable...

Now I have probably $2500 worth of chips in my cabinet LOL
Yup. I'm probably beyond that. Every set has a purpose. The only reason I went so crazy with the Horseshoe was the fact that I am from Cleveland and needed a casino party set. It really was a perfect storm. If neither had been true I'd probably still just have my two CPC sets.

I was going to drop a few hundred on CIN chips but now I'm leaning strongly towards sitting out. I just don't have a use. And really, what would I do with a rack of $2s other than never use them and sell them later? I think I'm going to take the couple hundred and put them towards a quality roulette wheel.

I only have four. To get to these four I've gone through about 25ish sets lol

I have two right now.

Riverside Casino 600pc Chipco used
Wicked Spades 540pc

My third is probably going to be either Nevada Jack Saloon 500pc or Casino Aztar 500pc.

Not a huge fan of the Horseshoe Casino chips but would consider them as a 3rd set.

One important aspect that many seem to ignore when discussing chip prices is resale value. Like automobiles and boats, most budget and mid-range chips lose significant value the moment they are purchased, and it is pretty rare that those chips can be later resold for anything close to the original cost of purchase. This also holds true for most custom sets, no matter how nice or expensive. Most people aren't willing to pay $2+ per chip for somebody else's customs, when they can order their own for that price.

But high-end clay chips (Paulson, TRK, BCC) are another matter, especially if in excellent/near-mint/mint condition, or in high demand, or in extremely short supply. Those chip sets will nearly always maintain their value. As long as one can afford the initial cash outlay, you are essentially playing with some of the nicest chips available for free. That cannot be said for hardly any budget, mid-range, or custom chips.... all of which have a sunk cost, due to a limited ability to recover the purchase price upon resale.

In the long run, the most expensive chips are actually the cheapest. :)

BG, only if you plan to sell them eventually.

My reason for enjoying poker chips is simple: I want a good quality set I can use over and over again at poker nights.

Remember Spock from The Big Bang Theory in Season 5, when he said that not playing with your toys would be illogical. ;)

Do we definitely know that the listing ended with no bids or did it end early because it was "no longer available" (aka: a deal was made offline).
Never know for sure, but it was still up there with less than an hour to go, so unsold is a safe guess.

Well, I've bought and sold many, many sets during my affliction with this hobby. Current count is 25+ sets and close to 30,000 chips -- mostly mint/near-mint high-end casino clays (Paulson, TRK, BCC).

Almost everything gets played, and when something new and shiney or previously unavailable comes along that catches my eye, I can typically sell something off to pay for the new set without having to spend more cash.

It's sorta like a revolving-door museum of really nice chips to choose from every week, and in the long run, it's basically free to have the opportunity.

I find it much more enjoyable than buying and playing with midrange chips while taking a financial hit at the same time.... been there, done that. The only times I have taken a loss when selling were with china clays, ceramics, and a few used casino chips, but I rsrely buy any of those to play with any longer.

Just trying to share the wisdom. :) Ymmv......

100 $1
100 $5
40 $25
10 $100

...maybe I'm missing something but I'd be surprised if that sold for $245.

I pretty much rent my sets for as long or as short as I want to keep them for the price of shipping.

I've lost a couple of bucks and I've made a couple of bucks. Nothing life changing. Poker/Poker chips is my hobby, not my job and I treat it as such. Heck, not many people can say that their hobbies are self sufficient.

I thought the same thing myself. The breakdown in itself is less than ideal, although the ratio is okay. Double it and you've got something; add a rack-o-fracks & you really got something.

Is that something worth $500 (sans shipping & fracs) to a buyer? *shrug*

My vote is for Aztars .... while many here poo poo them, I think they are a great set (I have a few myself). (y)

Got about 40pc myself. I like the Paulson THC design. Eventually it will happen. I have little or no interest in selling said chips.

This one is interesting to me. It didn't help that the guy wanted fourteen bucks for shipping, but even so, $66 shipped for a rack of Paulson THC dollar chips is pretty darn cheap for eBay.
I'm very curious to see what happens with Cleveland horseshoe prices in the future.
