Ever fold AA in a NLHE cash game pre-flop? (1 Viewer)

I once had AA folded for me pre-flop by the dealer while I was sitting in the ten seat in a 2/5 game.

There was a raise, 2 calls and a 3-bet when I saw my hand. I leaned back a second to calculate my raise amount and the dealer snap mucked them (they were unprotected). I was irate. We called the floor.

The guy who 3 bet flopped a set of kings. The dealer saved me about $750 that hand as it was a very dry board and I read the 3-bet guy as squeezing with less than KK.

Yea, @Ronoh more eloquently said what I was trying to say with my story.
Yes. But the part of your story about your friend racking up his chips is the important part. I can totally respect that decision if the folder realizes that he has to cash out.

So last week at the 2/5 NLHE game at my local casino, one of the players said he had played in a 25/50 NLHE game in FL and laid down AA pre-flop. The hand was straddled, and then He was playing with 30k behind and it was 5-bet to roughly $12000 with a couple of callers before he acted in the big blind. He was the short stack at the table and, given the action, was pretty confident that even if he shoved he was going to get several (5-7) callers. So he decided to fold in light of the fact that 30k is a big chunk of his bankroll and with 7 players seeing the flop he is not likely to win. I said that I could never fold AA pre-flop and the fact that he did showed that he never should have been playing in that game in the first place. Most people at the table agreed that they would have folded, so I was in the minority. Has anyone here ever folded AA pre-flop in a cash game?

It is a little unclear, but did he actually have 30K in front of him at the start of this hand or was he short stack, meaning he had bought in for 30K and was sitting on 12k now? If the latter, then his logic may make some sense (but I would never do anyway, I am putting all my money in, even in 1 5 handed shove/call situation).

If the former, meaning he had 30K in front of him at the beginning of the hand, there is no y to fold this hand If he 6-bet shoves or 30K, even if all other players are super deep, likely only 1 or 2 players will call in a 25/50 game (even with straddle and re-straddle). Bad/Awful ply either way.

Short Stack with AA and a chance to quadruple up or better. I'd shove. You're not gonna see a better chance to get back in the running.

Short or big stack I'm playing AA for sure.
Only times I have ever folded are when I'm about in the middle stack, and only with good player Intel on a probable multi-way flop

I suppose after a 5-Bet preflop this is probably the kind of hand that will send someone home, so if you are one or two players away from being in the money it may just be better to get out and watch someone else bust.

Let's not forget this is a cash game, not a tournament.

There aren't many places in a hold'em game where you find edges as strong as AA vs anything else preflop. This isn't a situation where everyone's opinions are equally valid. Nor is it a place where the math is complex and fuzzed by the difficult ranges to assign - the math is simple and clearly favors the best decision. AA is +EV in every case (multi way or heads up, shallow stacked, deep stacked or in between) and not a little +EV but hugely +EV.

Here we are 40+ posts into a strategy thread and still there is difficulty persuading people on something that should be foundational knowledge. The most valid concern is Hero is sitting so out of his depth that even an 100%+EV isn't enough to overcome the fear of losing - then hero can fold, rack up, go home and never ever set foot into a game with stakes even 10% of the stakes outlined in this thread.

In a cash game this is obviosly never fold. If you are not comfortable getting your stack in pre as a massive favorite, then you should not play in the game. In a satelite or some other tourney where the next pay jump is insanely high (super rare circumstances) it is foldable.
