if I recall correctly 25 years ago the cost of an edge spotted inlay casino chip was somewhere around 60 cents to purchase.

Digging thru my notes I found this memo on Paulson pricing from 2/2008

Market price is :

Base solid chip 39mm :

- Hot stamped : 60 cents

- decal : 70 cents

One to 8 edge spots : add 8 cents

More than 8 edge spots : add 15 cents

43 mm : + 8 cents

Standard UV pigment in inlay (printed) or in edge spots (in clay) : + 5 cents each

Two different inlays : +7 cents

Paulson charges an extra 20% if order below 1.000 chips

So that's why the NAGBs order so many chips...

PIC #1

In the beginning... God created clay...

Well not actually clay at all really. A composite mixture of materials. If I can locate the HCE formula I'll post it. Formulas from manufacturer to manufacturer have changed over the years but they are similar if not fruits of the same tree.

This isn't a very exciting pic... 50 likes and I'll post the next image probably the next day if I'm around.
Looks like clay to me…and cotton.
