Aside from the painfully clichéd "get in the boats children, I'll be along shortly" (character is clearly going to die, let's try to make us give a fuck about her? bs, the rest of last nights episode delivered.

agreed, though i didn't really think the brief battle was all that impressive cinematically. i really watch this show more for the narrative than the spectacle, though, so that was okay, but i think a lot of people were probably a little disappointed with the scope of that sequence. at least we won't hear from all the book readers how much better it was in the books, though, since it was apparently not really discussed in much detail there.

i loved all the scenes with tyrion and dany together. i guess people think her arc is boring and useless, but i can't wait to see how things develop between those two.

Just finished watching it. Thought it was probably one of the best episodes this season.

(Books still better Jack:))

do the books have pictures of titties? didn't think so...

excellent point. What fabric is Dany's dress? I want to touch it.

also, how fucking great was it to see cersei miserable in that cell? it was fanfuckingtastic.

Loved the episode and the many storylines. Hard to explain Thomin in the tank though while his wife and mother are on lockdown.

not really. he's a worthless pussy who would rather throw a tantrum alone than actually gather up his pre-fallen ballsack and try to do anything. almost (lol okay, not really) enough to make me wish joffrey were still around.

lol, agree of course, but rise up! I think I accomplished more at his age; well, except for ...

And it's about time. I think this season has lagged behind the rest.

Did we watch the same battle scene? For me it was the best large-scale battle the series has shown to date. The Wildlings at the Wall was condensed significantly, and the Battle of Blackwater Bay (Stannis attacking Kings Landing) would be my next in line for excitement.

I wish they had some undead giants in the mix though, that would've been scary as fuck. What I don't get is how the giant could stomp one of the undead and it "died" but when the horde of them leap from the cliff and fall and essentially smash themselves in a similar fashion, they are able to get right back up and attack.

It's not really clear from what they've shown how the regular undead are killed, or why they can't just be raised again (since the injuries that take them down are similar to what are inflicted upon the living before they are raised back as undead)

Guess I'll have to turn my brain off for that portion of it, but anyway, yeah, that battle was fantastic.

Dead children others cool as fuck.

According to the books the only thing that can really kill them is fire. Or apparently being squashed into mush. An arm cut off will continue to move and try to kill. And anyone killed by an other or white walker will become a white walker.

Tommen a pussy? I guess the show creators need to give him some type of airplay. In the books he gets little mention at all. He is actually a lot younger in the books. Under 10 I think. And leaves the running of the realm to his mum and council. So more of the reason he does nothing is because he is ignorant on how to get anything done

Makes sense. Most 10 year olds are pussies. Ever fight one? One good punch and they're out. It's like, come on, stand up for yourself. Pathetic.

So here's my take on last nights episode:

Burning of Stannis's daughter

Made me cringe to hear her screaming, plus was painfully foreshadowed when he's sending Davos to The Wall and Stannis keeps saying his family stays with him. Felt that the mother suddenly breaking down while Stannis held his composure was completely opposite of how both characters had been portrayed. The mother was always this religious kook and didn't seem to care much for her daughter, while Stannis loved her, so just didn't make sense to show the mother so distraught.

Also, the way his camp went up in flames so magically and he somehow knows it was "20 men" who snuck into camp? Gimme a break.

Sand Snakes

For me the most mucked up storyline this season, they just kinda fast-forwarded through them and made their whole existence relatively pointless.

Meanwhile At The Wall

The previews from the previous week would have led us to believe there was going to be an issue with Jon getting back through the wall, but that didn't happen. Still, they've been showcasing that Olley kid from the Nights Watch too much for something to not happen before the season concludes with those in the watch who are upset turning on Jon.

Arya

Will she start working in the brothel to get her shot at killing Meryn Trant? A man needs to know.

Meanwhile in Mereen

Jorah lying there while the other guy waits for approval from the Queen to kill him? Nobody else in that battle waited, wtf? Lame. The Son of the Harpy that Jorah got with the spear, how did he sneak up on Danaerys? There were Unsullied guarding her little pavilion there, so they couldn't have just waltzed in (with or without the mask on). Only thing I can assume is they were already in the pavilion with her and then donned the mask? Still seems kinda odd they could get so close to her.

And man were those Unsullied portrayed as particularly useless during the "battle" (which looked awful). And I was hoping the spears would bounce off Drogon, not stick in him, seemed kinda meh there too. But the worst was the CGI for her flying off

Overall one of the weakest episodes this season, especially for an episode 9 in this series which is generally been pretty boss (plus coming off the above average episode 8 we just had last week)

yeah overall not the best episode for sure, but the appearance of the dragon at the battle of mereen was pretty boss.

and they have a SHITLOAD of ends to tie up in the final episode. i'm a little surprised that more wasn't resolved last night. in seasons past, the next-to-last episode tended to be the kick-ass, blockbuster episode and the final more the epilogue.

SONS OF THE HARPY: Hey guys, The Queen has like, 8 guards left, and there's 50 of us. Let's all attack one at a time rather than using our numerical superiority to overwhelm their little defensive ring, and then toss toothpicks at the dragon and wait for it to roast and devour us rather than run for our lives.

Arya kills Meryn Trant and takes his face to infiltrate Kings Landing obv

Poor timing by the producers. This must have been the Father's Day episode. Thanks, Stannis. Dirtball.

Daavos - sorry bro.

Ollie - get on with it, dude. Jon Snow should have reassigned you to latrine duty by now.

Note to self: Dany great sex toy, but don't marry her.

Will she start working in the brothel to get her shot at killing Meryn Trant? A man needs to know.

Nope, wouldn't be able to attract customers.

Jorah - it's over, man. Go recruit an army of stone men or take an axe to the head.

Dragons are boss.

I wanna see Bronn and Brienne kick some ass, and Ramsay suffer humiliation, mutilation, and banishment.

I will watch episode 10 and then I think I'm done with the series. Wasn't a fan of this season at all. I honestly can't see it getting better.
Didn't care for the rape scene of Sansa, implied child sex scene last night, and the burning of Stanis's daughter.

Are those events intrinsically offensive to you or do you feel they're unrealistic within the narrative or what? I mean, it's a story about terrible people doing terrible things so you kind of have to expect some terribleness imo.

Exactly when do we get what we want with this series? Starks looked protagonist-ish is season 1, look where that got them....

I hope you get your wish, but I'm not holding my breath.
