Game of Thrones (HBO Series - NO BOOK SPOILERS) (7 Viewers)

Are those events intrinsically offensive to you or do you feel they're unrealistic within the narrative or what? I mean, it's a story about terrible people doing terrible things so you kind of have to expect some terribleness imo.

Your correct, and I don't feel it was unrealistic at all within the nature of the story. My wife said as much. I just didn't need/or want to see it is all.

My wife flipped out after the Red Wedding and proclaimed she wasn't going to watch the show again too. While I admit the screams of Shireen burning were pretty cringe inducing, I enjoy this series because it's not all happy endings, there's a lot of horrible things that happen and it's not afraid to make us journey through that darkness.

not disagreeing with anyone. Honestly, the show is just running its course with me anyways.

Fair enough, I can't disagree that this season has been relatively weak for my tastes (except the Hardhome battle). But, I kinda expected that going in since Books 4 and 5 are my least favorite as well.

***FINALE SPOILERS***

well i can't say it wasn't interesting, but i really expected all that happened except for jon snow's death and arya's sickness/transformation/whatever that ends up being.

one thing that makes me nervous for the quality of the series, though, is that they will go about resurrecting all the characters they've killed off. i know there has been speculation that because of the stark capacity for warging that it was possible that ned could have left his body and jumped into an animal just before his beheading, i find it much more likely that they'll do something like that with jon snow. certainly it's no coincidence that melisandre arrived to castle black just before they betrayed snow.

but it will be a heavy lift for them to start resurrecting a bunch of characters and keep the audience actually invested in whether a character lives or dies. obviously if they can just be risen by an explanation of the character's warging or by melisandre after the fact, then the deaths carry very little weight. if this interview is to be taken at face value - and if kit harrington really has any idea at all - we're to believe that snow is gone for good, but i'm wary of trusting the actors' statements.

overall, it was a rather weak season. it was apparent that they needed to do most of that work to set up the next, though, so hopefully they will really turn it up in season 6.

My wife loved the scene of Arya taking her vengeance. The Winterfell battle aftermath scenes (Stannis fighting those guys, then Ramsey "accepting" the surrender and then Brienne) were meh.

Wife flipped when Jaquen "died" and then of course "what a twist!". Nights Watch scene was too "et tu Brute?" for my liking. But yeah, pretty sure Snow will be brought back from the dead via the Lord of Lights magic.

Cersei's walk of shame, errr, atonement, was pretty powerful. I was actually rooting for her to get back to the keep and raise her troops to make the streets run red with the blood of the faithful.

Was impressed with the CGI this time around for Drogon, they did a good job. But the Dothraki showing up out of nowhere in such great numbers was too much like the Walking Dead where it's empty space and then suddenly there's a zombie horde out of nowhere right on top of you

how bout those CGI tits, though? effects emmy in the bag obv.

P.S. how many people thought sir jaime was going to bang his daughter? this show has steeled me against all horrendous possibilities to the point where i was just like, "whatever".

P.P.S. i actually had an inkling of a feeling that cersei was going to the great brother-banging, wine-drinking home in the sky and as much as i hate her i wasn't really hoping for it. now i'm looking forward to seeing her direct the mountain to kick some sparrow ass next season.

Lol, I feel like Meryn Trant needs a meme where he's like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, going into some brothel and being like "this girl is Too Old, This girl is Too Old, Ah, this girl is just right!"

As far as the Jon Snow storyline, we are at the same exact point in the tv series as the books, so I have no special knowledge. I just find it hard to believe he is dead-dead...I'm sure Melisandre coming back to the wall was no coincidence. I'm excited to see where they go with this, and if this will spur GRRM to get that next book out.

a couple friends of mine have a $500 bet that GRRM dies before the book series is completed. i'd love to take the no, but i don't have the patience to wait it out.

If he dies, isnt the book series, by definition, completed?

Nah, they'll have someone else finish it, too much $$$ at stake. Plus, he's already given the tv show creators the outline of where the story is going, how it ends, etc. So I can't see that information not being available to the book publisher as well

Someone told me that GRRM was asked about Snow being dead and his response was "You think he is dead?" I don't know if this is true or not but I wish I could find an article to confirm it or not.

I'm in the camp he will be resurrected by Melisandre. And I think she had this look when she came into camp that she backed the wrong guy. Maybe she realizes Jon is much more a leader than Stannis.

Her look to me was more of being in shock, because she's trusted in the Lord of Light and her visions so much, and she feels kinda lost that it didn't proceed as she had interpreted the visions. Perhaps questioning her faith, or at least questioning her wisdom in "reading" the visions correctly

fwiw i don't think jon is a better leader than stannis. they're both pretty awful imo. neither is aware of the impact of their choices on the men they mean to lead. both are betrayed as a result of naive decisions. the only difference is that stannis's decision was out of desperation and desire and snow's was out of presumed destiny and an inability to look at the immediate reality rather than the big picture.

certainly you could make a value judgment against one or the other, but they're indicative of equally poor leadership skills imo.

I'm no fan of Jon Snow (I find him incredibly boring/dull) but I agree with his decision to let the wildlings past the wall. It's make strategic sense given the massacres at the Fist of the First Men and Hardhome that all living men must band together to face the threat the white walkers present. Every wildling left to die is one less soldier on your side and one more on the enemies side (kinda like how a team of search/rescuers will pull out of a building if one of their teams air buzzers is going off, because you can't afford to have one less rescuer and one more victim)

as with most poor leaders, the issue is much less his ultimate decisions than with his inability to get his people on board. he thought he ruled by mandate and destiny would guide him and so didn't lead in a way that inspired confidence and loyalty.

I think he was dealing with trouble from the jump, since the vote for who would become the next Nights Watch Commander was split pretty much 50/50. It's like Three Company where one of the chicks loves you and one hates you.

Yes it's just like Three's Company.

Come and knock on our door, we've been waiting for you, where the kisses are hers and hers and his three's company too!

That scene just seemed too forced into the episode to be inconsequential. Season 6 will probably start with scenes of Beric Dondarion being brought back by Thoros of Myr.

Kit Harington confirmed gone-ski (he even cut off the hair.)

If you watch closely in the final scene, his eyes appear to change colors (also, indications are that his fate in the show/books may turn out differently...)

Usually I go to ASOIAF forums when I want to discuss ASOIAF, but I can't even be there after the last 2 episodes. The amount of butthurt from Team Stannis can be measured in metric tonnes, and they just won't STFU...

Ill believe it when I see it. Im sure they could find a black wig for him to wear.

also consider that if melisandre did some kind of fire ritual, he could come out with his hair burned or just with a new look as a reflection of his rebirth or some shit. they could mess that that however they want. i would probably give 1.5:1 that he returns by the end of the 7th season in some form.
