Game of Thrones (HBO Series - NO BOOK SPOILERS) (1 Viewer)

so can someone with full knowledge of both the books and the series say whether the series is 100% caught up with the books? i know the series is further along in some respects, but have the existing plotlines from the series been taken further in the books at this point?

no specifics obviously to avoid spoilers for those trying to avoid them. i'm just curious as to yes or no.

I would say for the most part, the series has caught up or surpassed the books in almost all the plot lines that they have focused on. However, some major plot lines in the Books have not been covered at all in the series, so its difficult to say if they will take place in a different season (or cut altogether), or perhaps the main show characters may follow certain arcs that were done with different characters in the books.

^^^This, with the exception of Bran's plotline, which they just dropped out of this season entirely. Remember him???

Thats because Bran's story was already caught up at the end of last season.

Rickon though.....

For the most part it seems like they are caught up. The Daenerys and Tyrion plotlines are so different, but those are probably a little behind. The Arya one is behind too if I recall correctly, although it also is different, and its been awhile since I read the books. The last book ends just like the season ended, with Jon Snow getting stabbed and fading into darkness.

Yeah Bran was omitted, as was the entire storyline with the iron islands. Arya is a bit farther along in the books than the series. Jon ended at the same point, Danerys at the same point. Kings Landing same point. Winterfell went farther in the series (no battle in the books), through the entire Sansa storyline is different in the series. There was an entire storyline with Dorne and Danerys that was cut as well. Lady Stoneheart storyline omitted too.

Kit Harington confirmed gone-ski (he even cut off the hair.)

If you watch closely in the final scene, his eyes appear to change colors (also, indications are that his fate in the show/books may turn out differently...)

I'd be happy to take a bet with you, my side being that the actor playing Jon Snow will return in future seasons of the show. He may no longer be a member of the Nights Watch at that point, hell, he may not even identify himself as Jon Snow, but he will return.

Lemme know the odds you want laid and the amount you're willing to wager.

I'd take a bet of that nature, if it weren't going to take like 4 years to collect lol.

If you want to do one for next season only, here's what I'll do:

I lay 3:2 (my $60 to your $40) that Kit Harington does not appear on the show in season 6 as part of the ongoing storyline (appearance in flashback sequences, dreams, or as a corpse, or any CGI or other effects/constructs that may resemble but are not in fact the actual actor don't count.)

Book it. If you want to go larger on the monies lemme know.

I think part of the Iron Island story may be in next season based on some of the casting descriptions.
The Sansa storyline has put Sansa in Jayne Poole's place in the books which means the Boltons have an actual Stark instead of a fake Stark but could end up in the same place eventually.
Whilst Kit Harrington has said that he won't be back next season, no-one has asked him if he will be back the season after - plenty of time to grow his hair back. And, as Ben mentions in post #147, his eyes begin to change colour at the end of the shot. (Hmmmm, thinking aloud here, didn't Bran's eyes change colour/ go milky white/ roll into the back of his head when he warged............)

I figured out my problem with this last season. So much has been left from the books regarding the Dornes that their storyline could've been removed completely. It's hard to see what direction they plan to go with them considering what's been omitted.

They've left out a huge story about the iron islands so I can't see why they couldn't do the same here.

Oh well here's hoping book 6 is released before season 6.

Those are great. Except the Margaery ones...shudder

I will say no more:

The Night's Watch Oath said:
Night gathers, and now my watch begins.
It shall not end until my death.
I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children.
I shall wear no crowns and win no glory.
I shall live and die at my post.
I am the sword in the darkness.
I am the watcher on the walls.
I am the shield that guards the realms of men.
I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.
