Only photo I took. Too busy looking for golf balls in the rough  :ROFLMAO:

That’s the second course King Robert. It’s got some great holes on it. I think it’s trickier than the Ailsa.

Going to try and play 18 today, but may have had too tight a grip at the driving range yesterday…

:-(

Friday night 2-ball. Alternate shot with your spouse for 9 holes. It’s more a reason to drink than play golf. But hey, it’s fun!

I can’t remember which member suggested that I check out this company but I had to pull the trigger……the goldfish putter cover, let’s gooooo! Thanks to whoever made that awesome suggestion!

I had one of my worst golf experiences .. while actually playing some of my "better" golf.

I played a local "executive" course -- mostly par 3's with 4 par 4's on each side. It cost $30 to walk 18.
I was able to play solo, which was awesome, and its my 1st time walking a course, which was fantastic.

Here's the bad side:
Slow play was terrible. Some of the holes were a tad wet, and it was cart-path only. They upgraded the carts with GPS (which I don't get when you can take them onto the par 3's anyway), so they wouldn't let you go off path. Along with that, the groups in front of us were just SLOW !! On the back nine, I got behind 2 older ladies. They were terrible (hey, I'm glad they're out there enjoying their day, but FFS).
- They couldn't hit the ball further than 100 yards, no matter which club they used
- They constantly waited for the fairway to clear -- 200 yards in front of them
- They couldn't hit the ball straight, and there's no way they scored less than an 8 on any hole.
- They never brought more than 1 club with them -- even when chipping from the other side of the green. They'd walk all the way back to the cart and grab the putter.
- THEY NEVER LET ME PLAY THROUGH !! I waited on my tee box before they teed off.. thinking they'd get the point. NOPE !!
- They waited for the greens to clear on par 3's that were 88-110 yards from the reds. They never got a single tee shot to the green.
- They lined up and finished every. single. putt.
- They never picked up once they were at double par. I was counting. Once, it took 1 lady 5 shots to hit the green on a 90 yard tee shot.
- The group in front of them was even slower. THEY NEVER LET ANYONE PLAY THROUGH !!!
- Did I mention there wasn't a ranger to be found.

And then .. the course. I've played here before, and it was bought a few years ago and they really wanted to make this a nice course. Here are the 1st 2 greens .. and EVERY green looked like this:

green2.jpg

Patches of crab grass all over the green, along with no grass, dead grass, cracked ground, etc... I 3-putted more times than I'd like, because you couldn't get a good roll. You'd have your putt lined up, its rolling well, hits the crab grass and either stops or kicks in another direction. unplayable !!

Fairways were longer grass .. which would be considered light rough on most other courses. Tee boxes weren't mowed, or were so bare you were hitting off of hard dirt.

I'm not a good golfer... I shoot about 100-110 and am working to improve my game. This course is a par 62 ,and I had a REALLY rough front nine (due to many 3 putts and duffed shots). The back nine, shot a 40 (should have been lower) but hit the ball better. progress for sure.

I was torn on asking for a refund, but I am sure 90% of the people out there were probably thinking the same thing .. and the only people working were a bunch of teenagers. The only "adult" I saw was the 85 year old man doubling as the starter and the concession stand guy ... which were not next to each other.

Time to practice some more, and get out to a better course. (sadly, every course around me is about $80-$100 to play)

Don't get me started on slowplay! But yeah, I'm asking for a refund if the greens are looking like that!

Golf is crazy expensive where you are. Most courses in Scotland will let you on for under £30.
Walking is how it’s played over here. The distance from greens to the next tees is about 100 yards max so no need for buggies.

we've got a few courses out here with over 1/2 mile between green & tee box. One course has 3 holes like that. Cart fees are usually $25-$30 of the total cost. Even the cheap course about an hour from me is $60 on weekends now

That’s really expensive compared to most courses here. Most memberships are around £1000 a year and that gives you unlimited play.

The “private” club near me is about $3000 to join, $700 per month, and a required spend of $250/mo. on food and beverages. That’s actually pretty “cheap” for these parts.

30 years ago, the most exclusive club in town was $50,000 for a full play membership, and minimum spend was $500/month. But you couldn't get a full membership unless you got 5 full members to vouch for you, then you could buy limited membership for 10 years before you got the option for full, assuming there were any full membership spots open. Full membership privileges could not be passed on to other family members if you withdrew or you died. Women had even fewer opportunities and privileges.

There are a few clubs like that over here but they are designed for Americans (mainly) with too much money. One club has a £100,000 joining fee and is putting it up to £350,000 based on feedback that Americans think it’s too cheap and therefore not exclusive enough.

Golf in Scotland is an Everyman game. There’s roughly 600 courses for a country of 5 million people. Some courses are as little as £400 per year (these tend to be remote) with only the really famous ones costing more than a couple of grand a year.

I get the impression that it’s a more exclusive game in the US and seems to be more of a country club thing. It’s a shame because it’s a great community game over here.
