I had one of my worst golf experiences .. while actually playing some of my "better" golf.
I played a local "executive" course -- mostly par 3's with 4 par 4's on each side. It cost $30 to walk 18.
I was able to play solo, which was awesome, and its my 1st time walking a course, which was fantastic.
Here's the bad side:
Slow play was terrible. Some of the holes were a tad wet, and it was cart-path only. They upgraded the carts with GPS (which I don't get when you can take them onto the par 3's anyway), so they wouldn't let you go off path. Along with that, the groups in front of us were just SLOW !! On the back nine, I got behind 2 older ladies. They were terrible (hey, I'm glad they're out there enjoying their day, but FFS).
- They couldn't hit the ball further than 100 yards, no matter which club they used
- They constantly waited for the fairway to clear -- 200 yards in front of them
- They couldn't hit the ball straight, and there's no way they scored less than an 8 on any hole.
- They never brought more than 1 club with them -- even when chipping from the other side of the green. They'd walk all the way back to the cart and grab the putter.
- THEY NEVER LET ME PLAY THROUGH !! I waited on my tee box before they teed off.. thinking they'd get the point. NOPE !!
- They waited for the greens to clear on par 3's that were 88-110 yards from the reds. They never got a single tee shot to the green.
- They lined up and finished every. single. putt.
- They never picked up once they were at double par. I was counting. Once, it took 1 lady 5 shots to hit the green on a 90 yard tee shot.
- The group in front of them was even slower. THEY NEVER LET ANYONE PLAY THROUGH !!!
- Did I mention there wasn't a ranger to be found.
And then .. the course. I've played here before, and it was bought a few years ago and they really wanted to make this a nice course. Here are the 1st 2 greens .. and EVERY green looked like this:

Patches of crab grass all over the green, along with no grass, dead grass, cracked ground, etc... I 3-putted more times than I'd like, because you couldn't get a good roll. You'd have your putt lined up, its rolling well, hits the crab grass and either stops or kicks in another direction. unplayable !!
Fairways were longer grass .. which would be considered light rough on most other courses. Tee boxes weren't mowed, or were so bare you were hitting off of hard dirt.
I'm not a good golfer... I shoot about 100-110 and am working to improve my game. This course is a par 62 ,and I had a REALLY rough front nine (due to many 3 putts and duffed shots). The back nine, shot a 40 (should have been lower) but hit the ball better. progress for sure.
I was torn on asking for a refund, but I am sure 90% of the people out there were probably thinking the same thing .. and the only people working were a bunch of teenagers. The only "adult" I saw was the 85 year old man doubling as the starter and the concession stand guy ... which were not next to each other.
Time to practice some more, and get out to a better course. (sadly, every course around me is about $80-$100 to play)
