I am realizing from scrolling down through the posts, reading bits here and there, that for me poker is the hobby and obtaining poker chips is part of that hobby. I would not call myself a poker chip collector, defined as one who is interested in obtaining authentic poker chips like those found in casinos.

From a collector's perspective, I understand the concern. Speaking as someone who is happy to just have a better poker chip than what is found at your typical home game, place of origin or brand isn't of import.

This might be it!

I’ll add that obviously aesthetics is part of the “better than typical (*cough*dice*cough) chip” so yes I appreciate real casino designs, and part of the reason why some of the tributes and recreations appeal to me. Friends and I may have sentimental attachment to certain casinos and it’s neat to be able to play with chips that look like or are inspired by them.

The way chips handle and feel are also part of the “better” chips, so I do objectively like Paulsons more than cards molds in that regard. So I have a budget Paulson set that’s part of my rotation but I don’t really have any sentimental ties to it (and I can’t afford the real casino chips that are meaningful to me and my guys).

Added the Tropicana Evansville Gemaco chips, so now I can rotate between CM, Paulsons, and casino plastics, and I’ll be getting a no mold textured Bellagio tribute soon for even more variety.

Yes Bergs. I was serious. I want you cards mold people BANNED FOR LIFE!!!!
Lots of people have compared this subject to replica watches. On www.watchuseek.com which is the most active watch forum they did exactly this. There is no discussion of replica watches tolerated.

Here is the thing though.....
It doesn't really matter all that much. They can ban all discussion, pics etc but all that did was force all that into another website. It didn't stop replica watches one bit

Is it better to welcome those people here or would it be better to force them into another website? Either way, they will exist.

I think the ceramics will make people want the real thing. I’m expecting this to happen to me. Could be good for the hobby in a weird way.
Oh, I've wanted the real thing. For a long time.
I'm getting a big set of '98 Bellagio "fakes" to partially satisfy the desire I've had for these chips since they came out.

Until I come across a time machine, and $3.8 million, I'll be playing occasional tournaments with these:

I also have Paulson, CPC and BRPro ceramics, so I'm familiar with the difference. This is just something different to enjoy the hobby of poker.

I assumed everybody would know I was joking? I obviously have some strong feelings on the subject, but I have strong feelings about ketchup.

Those are outstanding!

If you don’t put ketchup on hotdogs, what the hell DO you put it on? I thought hotdogs were simply a vehicle for massive amounts of ketchup!!

<OK, it belongs on fries too>
If you need ketchup for your fries, you have sub-standard fries. They should only need a bit of salt and nothing else.

(yes... this is a hill I'm willing to die on)

I actually agree amazing fries don’t need ketchup but I still like using a bare dab on some really good fries.

And I thought that I knew you, Mel.

Mustard, preferably stoneground or spicy brown mustard. Standard yellow in a pinch.

That’s it. Unless you get fancy and make a Chicago dog, Coney dog Or chili dog.

But never ketchup. Ketchup is for the children. Lol

Next time you come through, I’ll take you to the Red Hot. Fancy different gourmet dogs and plenty of beers on tap.

Sure, you can have delicious hot dogs with all kinds of other accoutrements. And fine, those are “better”. I have had all that fancy stuff. It’s great. But ain’t nothin wrong with a dog and ketchup.

Jesus, I just saw the grand casino Gulfport copies for the first time. And for the first time I’m feeling some of what @Ben8257 alluded to. It kinda makes me sick. I spent like 18 months chasing down singles to build a playable set of grand casino Gulfports - one of this hobby’s actual grails. I don’t have them any more, but it doesn’t change the feeling. A feeling that I’m not sure even has a name, and I know it’s a petty feeling. But now any noob and cheap bastard can have a set of Gulfport knockoffs? No sir, I don’t like it.
Dude the Gulfport Ones were the chips that almost got me to cross over haha! I was creeping the group buy section and found out what people were doing, and asked a few questions. I spent a day or two looking at everything,

HOT Damn, some Gulfports would hit the spot!

I felt like a kid in a candy store! I could get a few racks of fracs, hell, 1000s, 5000s whatever you want, whatever size, 43mm card mold, no mold, beep bop,
I had it written down on a little sheet of paper.

It’s hard not to crossover to the dark side.

Then a wave of pride washed over me,
NOPE! Big fat Nope!

But the gulfports, they almost had me.

for me personally i guess it's mostly hamburger-based things - burgers, meatloaf, shepherd's pie. potato as well - fries, hash browns, breakfast hash.

i don't put ketchup on much else that i can think of. my kids put it on everything though. the one that really gets me (besides mac & cheese) is when i make a nice roasted chicken and they even dip that in ketchup.

This comes off as ridiculous lol. You prevented yourself from buying the cheap chips because of some virtue keeping you from the "dark side"? You have too much pride to stoop to cards mold?
