As opposed to what? Isn't it more like 99% plastic, given that there's no lead anymore?

Depends a lot on the definition of "plastic" I suppose.

Whatever the odd texture is, it looks like it caused some funky things to also happen with the hotstamp. Or maybe it just got a bit overpressed.

I was told by the poker room cashiers that all of the $1 hotstamps were 'recalled' due to some sort of problem.

There were none visible on the poker tables or anywhere else in the casino & poker has orders to remove and separate any that they find in racks.

They were definitely the exception at my table. I first saw a single in the dealer’s tray and bought it from her. Then I looked through the 20+ I had and asked my neighbor to do the same, going 0-for-2. I saw one in a pot from a player two seats away and bought it from him, and I don’t remember where the third came from. Guesstimating maybe 2-3% of the $1s are hotstamps?

Interesting. That patterning looks like what happens on older chips when they get super dry (i.e. need a very light oiling to "moisturize" a bit.)

I wonder if that means these will become super hard-to-find collectibles?

Saw another idea (credit to @FDLmold I think) that a possible reason for a recall is that these were meant to be on the Bellagio house mold, not RHC.

Plausible for sure. Interesting how many people would have had to overlook that, though, for them to make it all the way through production and onto the floor before someone said "hey what are these little top hats all about? how come the new chips don't say BELLAGIO like all the old ones do?"

Venetian had an error chip on the wrong mold I think. It happens.

And yeah, that was my post at thechipboard. The color of the chip and the spots look to match the inlaid $1 chips perfectly. Wrong mold is the only thing I can think of. Since every cash chip they have ever had is house mold, it makes some sense. The boxes arrived from GPI, some lackey unloads them, a couple bosses look at them and the colors look right, without paying any attention to the mold. Then whoops, they don't want stupid RHC chips in their casino since it is a classy joint, and they whisk them off the tables and out of the cages. The GPI rep says sorry about that, we are just used to giving everybody the shitty RHC mold because our margins are the fattest, we'll make you the correct chips and destroy these old ones, no charge.

I've pm'd a couple of PCF'ers on best tactics for harvesting chips, since my last visit was a semi-failure, but it seems the question is always ignored.
I was only able to harvest 100 Yaamava $1s, before I felt embarrassed about continuing to ask for $1s. The dealers and pit bosses were definitely onto me and were very annoyed with me asking even on the first attempt. I tried different rooms and used different lines, but no matter what I said, they always seemed to not want to.

So my question to y'all is, what do you say, how do you approach this situation, etc..?

It easier to farm $1 & $5 if the casino have a poker room, if not it going to be much and way harder
