Can someone who’s good at graphic design put this on a chip, maybe in THC style, but instead of the top hat and cane it’s these ? I’d really be curious what it looks like in that format. Not hijacking or derailing thread, it does seem that Greek is already the winner but I think some people would like to see it

Also did a piñata burro mold for a twist on the donkey mold I posted previously.

I am still partial to my Stetson & Arrow mold for a THC "tribute"...

Rant all you want, I understand ranting. But don’t act like I’m the bad guy for offering some common sense advice like “stop copying stuff.”
If you put up a poll asking the best way to rob a bank, and I suggested that you not rob the bank, would you rant that I didn’t suggest a better way to rob a bank, and yell at me because I’m not willing to help you rob the bank? Yeah maybe you would. But it doesn’t make me the asshole.
Nice job twisting my words. I didn't call you the bad guy, and I didn't come anywhere close to calling you an asshole.

Not all of that comment was directed at only you. It's just frustrating that here we've got a guy like Justin who is putting in a LOT of effort on this, as well as several other GBs that he has run. They're hard work. Don't know if you have done one or not, but I have. It's an extremely underpaid job around here that we all benefit from greatly. And comments like yours that say "stop doing what you're doing" without suggesting a different course just don't contribute anything. Sorry if that offended you. Not sure where the bank robbery analogy fits in. That came out of left field.

I get your point, but if you've read the entire thread, you will see that are trying to come up with something that is not an exact copy. Greek key is nowhere close to a trademarked image like hat & cane. I'm guessing it's probably thousands of years old. Is it new and original? Nope. Is it popular and well liked? Apparently so by the results of this poll. So what is your real objection to moving forward with it if a lot of people like it and want to buy chips using it?

If you genuinely don't like it, that's cool. Don't buy it. And if you really think we need something different, then go to work and come up with something else that's cool. If you build it, they will come...

In defense of coming up with something new, at this point if there was a new good idea, it wouldn’t get the number of votes needed. Just because it wasn’t on the original poll. Plus I bet lots of people just vote and don’t go through the pages to see other suggested options. It’s Justin project so it’s ultimately up to him. And even though I don’t like the Greek mold I greatly appreciate Justin’s efforts.

This is candid and made me laugh.

She does not need new idea to stop developping the H&C mold. She need the guarantee to generate $$ with new orders.

And do you really think she'll spit on a huge order involving the H&C mold the second after she gets the cash from this new mold (Greek Key) order ?

They are running a business. I don't see them refusing a big order / cash revenue for her company for morale reasons ?
Thank you Captain Obvious!

If we here on PCF are pushing a new Greek key mold, and at the same time discouraging hat & cane, then most likely she will sell a lot more of the Greek key. I'm not overly concerned about what she sells outside of this forum, and I have no authority to stop anyone here who does move forward with ordering hat & cane. But just like my comments to @upNdown , saying we don't like hat & cane, but offering nothing else isn't going to accomplish anything. But laying out the case for why we don't like hat & cane, AND offering an alternative new mold hopefully will encourage many to not buy hat & cane copies.

If another suggested option gets a little traction, or captures Justin's interest, it would be super easy for him to scrap this thread and set up a new one with a new poll.

Palm tree mold: good idea.

But why constrain to THC Style? One must think outside the box, er, cage.

(Yes, I am aware my palm trees look like crap but it's just a mockup)
Looks like a virus escaping a petrie dish! :ROFLMAO: But seriously, unfortunately, the smaller details likely wouldn't come through.

Armchair critics are a dime a dozen, and typically provide zero actual value.
If I twisted your words by saying you called me an asshole, I don't think it was a very hard twist. But no real offense taken - I'm often the asshole here. FWIW, I think that's an underappreciated job.

No, I've never run a group buy. It's a funny thing - I remember reading back in the day that a person running a group buy couldn't make any profit. That seemed crazy to me, not just for all the work involved, but for the risk taken. I did recently buy a rack of chips and to sell them off as singles. I wasn't looking to profit (I was just looking to save them from the drill press,) but I hated the idea of all the work involved in sending out so many packages, and what if one of them got lost? So I built in a profit of something like a buck a chip. And it's a good thing I did, because one $40 package did get lost. I ate the cost entirely and sent out a new package. What happens if that happens in a no-profit group buy? FWIW, I've noticed people building profits into group buys now. I'm not complaining because I don't know if the "rules" have actually changed, and like I said, its kind of insane to do all that work yourself. So no, I don't run group buys, I appreciate the people who do, and I assume thay have their reasons for doing so.

I read this on page 1:
Sounds good. I would strongly suggest she use the BCC MGK as the template.
To me, that sounds like an exact copy.

Listen, I'm no trademark law expert and I'm sure you aren't either. And as long as you have a Tina willing to reproduce anything, then I guess you're free to do so - if you and/or Tina are assuming any risk, that's your business. But by the same token, I think I'm allowed to bitch about stealing designs ON A THREAD ILLICITING FEEDBACK ON THE DESIGNS.

I too am not afraid to take on the asshole role. Like you, I speak my mind, and I do appreciate that you are not afraid to do so. I'll also admit that I was intentionally sarcastic in a couple of comments. but I'd like to point out that while I disagreed with what you said, I do try to be careful not to cross that line of attacking the person. Maybe I did so in this case, and if so, again, I apologize.

I just really want to see us get something new to order that is NOT hat & cane.

Regarding the BCC MGK comment, I'll own that. But please note that in a later post I went to GREAT lengths (photos and descriptions) to lay out how what was being proposed was NOT an exact copy of any previous clay Greek Key chip.

I hope we're good Rob. I value your contributions here even when I disagree with something you say.

Oh we’re cool. You’d have to go out if your way to insult me.
I appreciate what you’re trying to do. Even if I prefer my ceramics smooth, I get that some people like them with a mold. And I appreciate trying to steer Tina away from THC (good luck - shrug.) I’m just going to keep beating the horse about copies wherever opinions are solicited.

Here's the thing, I don't much like ceramics at all. I dislike most smooth chips. What got me going all in on cards mold was that they were attempting to emulate a compressed clay chip. Even if they are ceramic, to me the Tina debossed chips are more akin to a china clay.

I'm definitely going to keep up the good fight against a Tina hat & cane chip!

Also just wanted to point out -- for all of the 'new idea' folks -- that a THC-style design template with eight images is probably not the best approach for a 39mm ceramic.

Restricting the number of images to just six not only creates a cleaner-looking and less cluttered design, but also retains quite a bit more of the base chip material (i.e., extra weight). Even four main images with a smaller "filler" image in-between each (lines, dots, etc.) is preferable to the "standard eight" approach, from a weight perspective.

Adding concentric circles also lessens weight, but can embellish a chip's 'finished product' look.

Elaborate designs are better suited for a larger 43mm canvas, which has more available real estate and a heftier starting weight.

Has anyone suggested a donkey mold? Perhaps a sitting donkey.
I tried to find a sitting donkey silhouette that was defined enough to be recognizable at the size it would need to be to work as a mold, but haven't found one yet that when reduced didn't look like a lump of something.

I like the palm tree and cherry out of everything thrown at this thread. Probably with the edge to the cherrys to match more chips.
I like the Stetson and arrow as a nod to the THC but a little too cartoonish for me I guess. I think an umbrella would be a good nod to the THC.
