Not really impressed with tournament director software. Any interest in this? (1 Viewer)

Throughout my experience... if you don't like TD, then you haven't learnt how to use it to its potential.

It is literally customizable to whatever you want.

If you have any questions... Cory the creator is very responsive through email and extremely helpful.

Love the product, just takes some time to learn as it is very comprehensive

I have to agree with this. I will say that TD is using some older code, but I Know Cory is working on an updated version that is going to add some new features.

Be cool if there was a version for Mac.

Did this project ever get off the ground?
Don’t think so but my sources are telling me we may all have the opportunity to talk directly to a developer of an already existing app very soon and offer input and ideas on changes, improvements and bells and whistles on a new version for ios, android and, I think, PC. Stay tuned.

Don't tell me it's a great all-you-can-eat buffet, then tell me it's closed. I'm 55 year old and already have had enough dreams crushed.

Have been learning TD lately and I'm very impressed by the level of customization and granularity it offers you. So many options you can apply.

That being said, you could make legitimate gripes with the UI. For users less experienced with conditionals/logic, following syntax, editing config files, etc. it can be pretty unintuitive. Most users probably just need an easy way to set up a simple template, and a minority use all the features on offer.

Still, I like the idea of software that's complex to handle all the applicable cases. Also single purchase software instead of a subscription is a rarity nowadays and greatly appreciated

I built two turnkey DIY website design companies long before Wix and Squarespace ever existed. My audience was CPAs, doctors and dentists....not website savvy people. We created solutions that were dummy proof simple, and yet the websites looked amazing and were loaded with cool features. The simplicity of the GUI is paramount in consumer facing software. If the software is difficult or confusing to use, you can be 99% certain a programmer designed the GUI. We had a saying in my company..."Build it for Bubba."

1000% this! My GUI skills are terrible but I can wrangle any backend or database into submission. What's scary is that I was also a better GUI designer than most of the firms contracted at my last job. :cautious:

@Tonysquander any update on what you were referring to?

I built this timer, it's pretty minimalist at the moment but It's not too hard to make changes if anyone has strong feelings?

(People don't seem to like the font (raleway) but I love it haha. - Maybe i'll make an option to change it?)

@AppMakerRonB there is a lot of interest in a cross-platform solution. Any status updates? Taking feedback? We are ready to crowd source ideas for you!

Sorry for taking so long to respond to this. I need to check this forum more frequently!

I do have some progress to report. The new app, which will be available on the web and on Apple and Android phones and tablets, is currently in early beta with limited functionality. In the current version you can create multiple blind structures, and run them on a timer screen, where you can keep track of total number of players and remaining players. Over the next few months I'll be adding all the other features our "Texas Holdem Poker Timer" app on iOS has, and then I'll add new features for supporting Poker clubs and leagues like tracking game and player stats across multiple tournaments, etc..

If you want to try out the beta web version, it's here: PokerClubHQ.com

If you are interested in trying out the beta version of our Android or iOS apps, let me know. For iOS I'll need your email address to add you to the beta access list, and for Android the app should soon be available in their open beta feature for anyone to try. When it is, I'll post the link here.

Thanks for the update! I'd be interested in trying the beta version for Android. Currently I use "Blinds are Up!".

Our new app is called Poker Club HQ, and it will run on the web and Android and Apple phones and tablets.

Our goal is to become the headquarters for your Poker club or league — the app you use to plan and run your tournaments, and track your tournament and player stats, for each tournament, and across multiple seasons.

This initial beta version supports the following features:
* Creates high quality blind structures for tournaments of any size.
* Supports entry of chip sets with customizable values and colors.
* Supports big blind antes, standard antes, or no antes.
* Blind levels can also be created manually with complete flexibility.
* Includes a full screen timer that maximizes the size of the timer and blind values, and shows upcoming blinds and breaks, the average stack size per player, and estimated tournament end time.

In the next few months we'll be adding support for:
* Adding players to your tournaments, providing support for seating, and balancing or consolidating tables as players get knocked out.
* Keeping a detailed log of:
* Player buy-ins, addons, rebuys and reentries.
* Knockouts and total play time for each player.
* The ability to add custom tournament and player stats you want to track and view in reports, for example player points, etc..
* The ability to view club wide and individual player stats, reports, and graphs compiled from single or multiple tournaments or seasons.
* The ability to securely share your club data to the cloud so it can be managed from multiple devices, with the option for providing read-only access to other club members.

Android app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.robinapps.pokertimer

iPhone and iPad: https://testflight.apple.com/join/RsZJEMVY

Important note for iPhone and iPad: Installing the beta overwrites our free Texas Holdem Poker Timer app on the device you install it on, and the beta does not yet support importing any of the tournaments or settings you have in the old app. However, the tournaments and settings from the old app are not lost. If you reinstall the latest version of the app from the App Store, over the beta version, your tournaments and other settings will be accessible again. Important: don't delete the beta version, or your tournaments and settings from the old app will be deleted as well.

We would love your feedback!

If you have questions, comments, suggestions, etc., please send them to support@pokerclubhq.com. Thanks!

This sounds fantastic. Looking forward to getting in there and checking it out. Thanks for joining the PCF community Ron. I’m sure you’ll get a lot of great feedback from everyone here.

For the web app, I can customize the chips, how do I display them on the screen?

Currently the chips are not rendered in the timer screen, I should have that working in the next few days though. I'll reply to this message when a new version is up with that feature.

Looks promising!

Three things I've noticed, so if I may I'd like to contribute with some feedback:

1. For T100 base, the "standard" high denoms would be 5000, 25000, not 5000, 10000, 50000

2. The suggested blinds schedule could be improved. I have only checked the T100 base.

1000003167.jpg

2.1:
800/1600 makes more sense than 800/1500

2.2
1200/2400 makes more sense than 1300/2500

Both suggestions above are what the WSOP uses.

2.3
This:

1000003168.jpg

... would require keeping the T500 chips in play for faaaar too long. I suggest 8000/16000, that's what the WSOP uses.

The three blind levels above are also auto completed when creating manual levels. I love the auto completion! But I would prefer the suggested changes. :-)

3. I can't seem to change time in a level, is that on its way? Sometimes you need to adjust the time when running a tourney. E.g. if the timer was paused during the break due to a combination of pre-tourney tacos and just a single toilet, and you forget to turn it on after the break, then you might want to skip ahead X minutes.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate your taking the time to do this.

Regarding the high denom chip values: to be honest, I was just making my best guess :), I'll update the chips per your suggestion. On a related note, are there standard colors for high denom chips? I did some research online, but didn't find much agreement.

Regarding the blind schedule: In 2006 the WSOP used a big blind progression of …1000, 1200, 1600, 2000, 2400, 3000… but this year they're using …1000, 1200, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000… (2024 WSOP Main Event). I didn't look back to see what year between 2006 and 2024 they made the change, but my previous algorithm matched the 2006 progression. I recently updated the algorithm to match 2024's. For players that prefer the classic progression, I am considering making that an option if there's enough interest.

Regarding the small blind not being optimized for ideal chip removal — yep, that is on my to do list.

Regarding the ability (or lack there of) to change the time in the Timer screen, yes, that is near the top of my to do list, so expect it in a week or so.

Thanks again!

I did not know this, you learn something every day!

This got me thinking: Why would they do this? The only reason I could think of was to color off the T100 earlier, bit that would mean that the small blind would need to be in increments of 500. I checked, and yes, that's it! :)

I suggest either going with the latest but 100%, i.e. also following the SB, or the old. Your current is a bit of a mix.

No, there's no real standards for high denoms. Not really for any denoms TBH, but less so for 5k and upwards.
