Offer a Refund? (1 Viewer)

I like that you are offering something to our pal Tarlo, even if he does not take you up on it. They are still nice chips and if nothing else he could buy 120 blank cc chips to replace those orange quarters which were by far the worst offenders. In fact this might not be a bad idea...offer to buy him 100-200 blanks to replace the quarters and he'd still have a very nice set imo. I know some of the other ones were flaking a little bit, but it was those that were the worst. Anyway it just proves once again that you are one of the good guys!

I think you could buy them here-(who cares if they have edge spots) I am sure they are also available elsewhere.

I could fill up some glass vases or something and decorate the basement with them.
Sounds like a great 'use-your-imagination' project for your most artistic kid. Get them back, hand them over, and sèe what you end up with. Could be awesome.

I contemplated something like that. Eventually the ones will be in the same shape as the quarters. Only a "temp" fix imo.

That's up for debate, but thanks.

A good friend of mine bought a set of the Dunes CC from Jim at the Chip Room several years ago. They get used about twice a month for a 1 table cash game.

They are falling apart badly now. The dealer tray is filled with specs of chips now. The edge of the table/rail is filled with chip dust cracks.

I feel bad because I recommended the chips when they were on sale.

I emailed him this morning.

Basically what I offered was to split a 500 chip set of Venerati's, Milano's, ect.....Something in the 200-250 range.

I hate feeling like I screwed a friend over.

If I were your friend - whether or not I accepted your offer - I would certainly appreciate that you cared enough to make the offer without me or anyone else bringing it up first.

This gives me pause about China Clays in general. How long have they been around and how prevalent is this problem? I am just upgrading from 20-year-old plastic chips. I have many samples. At first I thought I would do China Clays, but maybe not. I will end up paying more than I planned (already have on samples), but I think I will settle on a cool custom ceramic that Brent at LynBark is drawing up for me. But since I am intrigued by the Paulsons - I did jump on the current deal for green 25 PNYs. So it will be a mixed set. I hope that is not a cardinal sin. Handling both kinds of chips should clear up the issue of what I really like.

I was wondering, since good clays seem to be so popular, why isn't there a design and group buy effort going on at CPC. Their chips are great too (have samples) and not necessarily outrageously expensive if you don't get too fancy.

Probably because there aren't quantity discounts available w/ CPC that were historically w/ ASM. This was a huge incentive to get a group buy going. Now? Not so much.

I don't think you "owe" your friend anything, but that wouldn't prevent me from trying to buy them back. I would first offer to try to get him a refund through the vendor. Chips flaking that badly are ultimately a major manufacturing flaw. I would ask for a replacement set. If that didn't work out, I'd offer to buy them back, or to at least give him/her a partial refund if they didn't accept my buyback offer. If they still say no... then go for the setup and beer!

I've noticed possible problems with my older "orange" and yellow, both Custom label and the Private Cardroom CClays , some nicks/chips, easy breakage, and fading in the color. ( These have been stored for about 7 yrs or so) .
Oranges below, color variation and top one is chipped ...
Some bright yellows ( not pictured) , have faded much more severely, almost to an off white .. I dropped one or 2 and they shattered, so I tried breaking a couple, and they snap/ cookie crumble fairly easily, much easier than a Paulson or ASM which can also break .. .. And they seem more "crumbly" than when new ( subjective) ..
They are still playable and in "normal home use" may never have a problem .. but I am starting to wonder if something in them , at least the yellows and oranges, is deteriorating / slowly breaking down ..

Yeah, as time passes and earlier batches of china clays get older, it seems that more and more issues with material stability are croppimg up.

It may just tun out that ALL china clays have a finite lifespan, unlike high-end clay chips. That should be factored into the real cost of ownership, making other chips more attractive (which may be more expensive up front).

To DetroitDad:
Even though you of course had absolutely nothing at all to do whatsoever with my original purchase of the above chips, Will you will be, never the less, offering to pay for half of my upcoming CPC custom set? ... :D  :ROFLMAO: :D:D
